I loved the presentation, especially the music. I was going to run Soundhound to try to identify the music. Great Job ! Brought back a lot of memories and curiosity.
Very nicely done...My dad grew up in Ashland, graduating from Holy Family HS in '38. I understand the HS was discontinued in the mid '80s and that the town has fallen on hard times...sad.
Nice vid, very well composed with soothing affects, i recently did a five part pictorial history on Ironton Oh. from its Industries to the 37 flood at 777phase, thanks for posting this history of Ashland, keep them coming...............777phase.
Hey everybody, thanks for watching my video. Sorry I haven't replied to any of you before so maybe this one will do. A lot have asked about the music. It's called "Just Relax". I wrote and recorded it, there are no lyrics. I also remember going downtown in the late 50's early 60's hanging out at Murphy's, going through the record bins. It really was another time.
Before the Greenup Dam there was actually summers when boats were towed by horses until getting where the water was again. The Ohio would actually dry up. They have pics of it on the 2nd floor in the library.
It still looked like that in the 60s & 70s until all the businesses started going out of business. A bunch have already started coming back & others are getting ready to. 5-10 yrs. from now I bet people won't recognize any emptiness like there is now.
This was so nice. The music added something more to it.I wasn't born until '56 but I remember going with my dad on payday to G.C. Murphy's for a hot dog, coke & hot fudge sundae.Back then pop & a fountain bought sundae was a treat for special occassions.Hot dogs were for picnics or when in a rush.Hubby has some pics of Avondale (the slums) & I have a couple of pics of a backyard in Pollard & around the ball park in the park from the early 60s.
+Dennis O'Sullivan Sorry I don't know any place you could buy vintage Ashland photos. You can do online searches and find collections of old photos for viewing but I don't know about purchasing.
What is that structure at 3:05 .... it looks very very familiar to me, especially the entry into the basement or ground floor or whatever. But I just can't place it.
Mike Fitzpatrick I thought that lower entrance looked familiar. I think that was the "children's" library. The top looked familiar too but I don't think it still is there. Crabbe School (the new one) was built next to it.
My hometown!!!!!!!!beautiful music you did too!!!!!!
Thanks for your comment. I wrote and recorded the music myself. So glad you enjoyed it.
The music is very nice, relaxing, and appropriate to the image presentation.
Very cool! I legitimately regret having been born in Ashland in the 1980s, as it was simply stunning in the '30s and '40s. Beautiful video.
Wait until you see the new plans in the works.
Good video!

Bill J. Akers , my father Charles Meade was from Ashland and one of his good friends, George McAfee was from Ironton.
My grandfather worked for Armco and my father and uncles graduated from Ashland High School in the’30s
Thanks for sharing this! My dad worked at Armco. So did my uncle and grandpa.
All the men in my family worked at Armco, in fact my grandfather was one of the ones to found it. Greetings from the Compton gang!
Carla Leibee Brown , my grandfather worked there as well.
I think my dad told me a family member owned armco

We loved it too. It was perfect for the video.
Hey, thanks for sharing these with us! The Ohio River looks so small compared to today
Before the Greenup Dam there was actually summers when boats were towed by horses until getting where the water was again. The Ohio would actually dry up. They have pics of it on the 2nd floor in the library.
Wow.. It looks so busy.. I drive down the same street.. and it's almost like a ghost town.
It still looked like that in the 60s & 70s until all the businesses started going out of business. A bunch have already started coming back & others are getting ready to. 5-10 yrs. from now I bet people won't recognize any emptiness like there is now.
Thanks for the pics showing diagonal parking on Winchester Ave. The city is considering doing this if they can get the ok from the state,
very cool. keep 'em coming!
Hey! That's right next to where I live! I live right next to the Ohio River on the KY side.

Was wondering if you knew where to purchase vintage photos of Ashland.
+Dennis O'Sullivan Sorry I don't know any place you could buy vintage Ashland photos. You can do online searches and find collections of old photos for viewing but I don't know about purchasing.
The main library has photo books you can buy or tons of old pics you can just copy on the 2nd floor for a dime each.
Who's playing that music, Love your post! Thanks for posting!
Arnold Hanners (may he rest in peace) would have enjoyed this.

+MarcellusTheGreen That is the Public Library in Central Park, the back of the building looking north. Same location as it is now.
Mike Fitzpatrick I thought that lower entrance looked familiar. I think that was the "children's" library. The top looked familiar too but I don't think it still is there. Crabbe School (the new one) was built next to it.
Do you have any photos of Clinton st?
