We enjoy the whole area on the west side of appalachia from Middlesborough to Huntington. Something special about it like going back in time. The fall foliage in the mountains is superb and without the crowds of the Smokies.

Excellent photos! I lived here for one year and there is no place like it. It is one of the most beautiful places I have seen. It will always have a special place in my heart. Thanks for posting!

My Grandfather Jim Powell, great grandmother Effie Powell and great-great grandfather James H. Powell were all born in the Tram/Stanville area. I haven't been down there for a couple of years. I need to visit. I love the area and the people.

We would travel to Prestonsburg to swim in Dewey lake when we visited my grandpa Sam Preston in Magoffin Co.

Back in June 1983 I was in the Job Corps in Prestonsburg. Took electrical course, small business management course. I also took Orderly training at the then newly built Paul B. Hall Hospital in Paintsville as well. Met Loretta Lynn there a few times. Joined the Forestry Dept too.
I graduated from all of this and left April 1984, all just in 10 months.
There were times on the weekends I would walk from the Job Corp site and follow the railroad tracks into town. There was a family at that time that had a mobile home right next to the railroad tracks, the set up was kind of odd. They had a swinging bridge to cross the river to get to the main road into town.
Prestonsburg was a nice little town. I have kind of wanted to go back and visit again one day

@@jaybeatty2182 - Yes! JP Francis was his name. He must of worked there for a while. He was a funny guy. What year was you there. Been trying to remember mostly last names of the guys I hung out with at the time. Found a few but have passed on since.
JP Francis took took us to his house one time to show just not only his ham radio but the huge anteena that covered the roof of his house for the ham radio. At the time in 1984 when I was leaving, JP was so excited one day that he made contact with a lady from NC by radio. Last I heard they met up and I believe they were to marry.

Big Sandy river. Lower center of the picture you see the highway bridge. Move to the left and you can see the old bridge that is closed off now. In June 1949 a fairly famous unsolved murder happened underneath the old bridge. A book was written about it a few years ago by Author Michael Crisp. A good read.

IN A WAY I ENJOY OF THESE VIDEOS AND IN A WAY I DONT ..THE REASON I HAVE OF IS BOTH ONE IN THE SAME YOU COULD SAY... ONE IS THEY TAKE ME BACK TO A TIME WHEN MY LIFE: WAS GOOD THE OTHER IS THEY REMIND ME: OF THAT TIME THAT I CANNOT GO BACK TO OR CAN I HAVE OF TODAY BUT THAT IS WAY. IT IS. FOR EACH OF US AND ALL. ALL OF US IN THAT. OF. LIFE IS IT NOT. I CALL OF IT THE SAD TIME IN OUR LIFE OF WHEN THERE IS OF NO ONE TO SIT DOWN WITH ON THAT.OF HOW IT WAS OR OF HOW IT USE TO BE OF. YOU WILL NOT KNOW OF WHAT WHAT I AM SAYING OR OF HOW IT MAKES YOU FEEL UNTILL IT HAPPENS TO YOU . BUT ITS OF OLD AGE I GUESS AND IF YOU ARE OF ONE OF THE.LAST. TO GO IN.THAT OF YOUR FAMILY .ITS OF LUCKY AND NOT SO LUCKY. TO PUT OF IT OR OF THIS ..NOW I KNOW OF WHAT THAT OF THE LAST COWBOY OR LAST MOUNTAIN MAN MUST OF FELT OF TO SEE OF THAT OF WHAT THEY KNEW OF COME TO A END TO SEE OF WHAT THEY HAD DONE OF ALL THIER LIVES AND FOR IT TO BE OF NO MORE. ITS OF A HARD WAY TO SAY OF IT OR TO PUT IT IN WORDS BUT YOU FEEL OF SO LOST OR THAT THERE IS OF NOTHING FOR YOU ANYMORE IN LIFE. WHY I SAY ITS HARD TO PUT INTO WORDS TOO TRY AND SAY OF IT. I HAD OF A UNCLE I ALWAYS WANT TO TALK TO BEFORE. HE DIED BUT DIDN'T GET TO DO SO HE WAS OF A 105 AT THE TIME HE DIED OF. BUT CAN YOU SEE OF ALL THE CHANGES HE HAD SEEN OF IN HIS LIFE ..MUST OF BEEN OF SO MANY IT BE HARD FOR HIM TO EVEN START. OF IN IT I SAY. BUT. I HAVE ALWAYS SAID I WOULD LIVE OVER A 1OO LAUGHT ABOUT IT BUT JUST IN THAT OF MY TIME I HAVE SEEN OF SO MANY CHANGES IN THAT OF THINGS. SOME GOOD BUT OF OTHERS IT OF TOO MUCH TO KÉEP UP WITH TO HIGH TECH IS IT FOR ME TO BE OF AND TO DO OF. ITS WHY I LIVE OF LIFE IN THAT OF YESTERDAY I HAVE BEEN TOLD OF. BUT THAT OF THE WAY IT GOES I GUESS
