Thanks for this. I started doing a chicken wing just to avoid pull-hooking it OB left. Need to work on that hand movement from the top, glaringly obvious when I video myself.
Golfer's Elbow Tendonitis generally affects the outside of the elbow, while Tennis Elbow Tendonitis affects the inside of the elbow. That's the way the doctor explained it to me when I had to wear one of those elbow straps for a year while playing.
I have suffered from tennis & golfers elbow. If you put your arm straight out in front of you with the hand facing upwards golfers elbow is on the side nearest you. Tennis elbow is on the side furthest from your body. I use midsize grips to help me hold the club firmly with less squeezing of the grip to reduce tension in the tendons that connect to the elbow bones.
Nice explanation on that by the way, as for Tennis elbow, Golf elbow is usually on the bottom side and Tennis is on the top as in golf the major cause is improper technique and or people who do not warm up and or do strengthening and stretching exercises for their arm in tennis.
I was born in Buffalo (home of the chicken wing). My uncle actually worked at the restaurant as a greeter where Buffalo Wings were invented. I would definitely want them on my plate than in my golf swing!
Hi coach, thanks for addressing this. My girlfriend is trying to get into golf and has a chicken wing but the hand path dosent come out on the downswing and she hits an in to out, open face push. Whatever i try she still chicken wings through impact! Any ideas?
Been looking for some drills to rid myself of the chicken wing, i've been doing it so long that i'm not half bad at it, but i am having elbow pain in my left elbow, keeping me up at night sometimes !! Thank you for those drills, im certainly going to try them for a while, with hopes of releasing the club correctly !!
One of the best explanations out there, thank you. Just a question when you are dropping your club at th start on the downswing should you be activating the hips first or should be static until your arms catch drop down?
I use a drill/practice swing, where I try and match the face angle on the takeaway to the follow through at the parallel, so face angle matches spine angle at both sides. It gives me a feel for my hand positions and path to assist that release feeling, sometimes I can get a bit flippy and when I do I started holding off to counter it, this helps me stop that too. Doesn’t always stop it but definitely assists, more so takes away the extreme problems and just helps with some stability, if that makes sense.
Cheers Coach. I've always hated my bent arms elbows out impact position even with a big hip turn so will have to work back a bit. Trying to just not do it has had me going round in circles a bit!
Nice video, Coach! I would like your opinion on what causes the over the top move. I believe it's because we all know that at the top of the backswing the target is over our front shoulder. So left to figure it out on our own we will naturally want to swing back to the target, which is over the top. 50 years of golf and I still fight that desire to swing at the target.
Have been struggling with the pump drill in a recent lesson but I like the thought of dropping your hands - wasn’t doing that before. Will give it a bash
Great video for the old-timer whose swing has changed over the years I’ve been chic-winging it for years. Thanks for this video

I’ve had both repaired , caused by repetitive motion on an assembly line.

Ah the famous Chicken Wing...lol...great tips
Golfer's elbow - tendonitis on the inside of elbow. Tennis elbow - tendonitis on the outside of the elbow.

Thanks for the info! Good to know 👍👌
Good tips that I must try as sometimes I get left elbow pain, right handed golfer. 👍🏻

Tennis elbow is pain and inflammation on the outer aspect of elbow. Whereas, Golfers elbow is on the inner aspect of elbow.
Ring that bell!! Pull the flush chain! 2nd one was for the older peeps... 😂
Imagery often best way to help players change. Great stuff coach.
You must have hit that ball wall hard judging by the cracks running up it!😂 ⛳
there is a difference between tennis and golf elbow
Tennis elbow and golfers elbow are caused by pain in differing tendons…… Belgian doctor said golf inside elbow, Tennis outside…😊
Yep, unfortunately I’ve got both at the moment 🤦♂️
Thank you 🙏
Well, that explains a lot of what's been going on with my game lately. Now I "just" have to put the fix into action....
Easy 😉
👍
You missed elbow gap increasing on the down swing as a cause...losing connection
That happens because of the things I mention generally
Can't wait to put this tip into action.
So well explained - thank you.
You're very welcome!

Need to address the open face, and try adding some supination of the forearms
@CoachLockey thanks coach, will get her to give it a try once it's less freezing here!
What if you dont have a peppa pig ball? 🤔
That’s makes it trickier 😂

Great video, as usual Matt. BTW - Tennis elbow is pain on the outside of the elbow. Golf elbow is pain on the inside of the elbow.

The pump drills work well. I also do one arm swings with my left arm. getting rid of the chicken wing also changes your low point I have discovered.

Please show how to use alignment sticks as training aids...training aids on the cheap
Yes I want to see a video where you explain using swing training aids to help stop throwing the club out
Winner winner... no chicken wing dinner 👍
Great dissection of what’s going on with these chicken wings…. Now I’m hungry… LOL. As usual Coach, great instruction! Simple. Clear. Effective.
Thanks as always Solomon 👍
Great video Coach, been watching you for years, first time making a comment (Forster NSW Australia)
Awesome. Thanks Alan. Hope it helps👍
Great lesson Coach, have been working on the hip turn...btw I like Cajun chicken wings...lol.... Cheers
Most famous chicken wing on tour...Jordan Spieth?
Cheers Coach. I've always hated my bent arms elbows out impact position even with a big hip turn so will have to work back a bit. Trying to just not do it has had me going round in circles a bit!
Definitely work back and find out the route cause 👍

Usually caused by the open clubface as that controls everything
Have been struggling with the pump drill in a recent lesson but I like the thought of dropping your hands - wasn’t doing that before. Will give it a bash
Hope it helps 👍
