Pretty cool seeing a Hmong American golfer.
Proud ❤
it is pretty dope
Pak Se Ri effect, korean women golfers BEEN dominating since early 2000s
Sure but she’s not Asian American.
@@AmoebaCulture Their parents are not all Asian Americans. They were still impacted by Se-Ri's success and raised their kids to become like her. She very much impacted all Asian parents.
There's a lull right now as older Korean's retire and fewer Korean's are rushing to the LPGA. BUT The next wave of Korean women golfers are good. American's have no clue what is about to hit them. American media purposefully ignore foreigners on the LPGA tour as much as possible.
You need to search and begin watching the Korean tour and Japanese tour.
Not anymore. No new Korean stars have been emerging for last 3 years, they have hard time keeping up pace with average driver distance as LPGA average driver distance has been increasing in a scale. Their own KLPGA tour has been providing those ladies enough purse so it would be also a better choice to compete each other at KLPGA for them.
They have Asian Americans who has been in scene for juniors which have been enriching the US sports business though.
Good! People should be allowed to pursue their dreams and have nothing stop them, other than the limits of their abilities.
You mean foreign countries providing funding to kids to compete against zero funding US kids.... Not fair at all...
Remember when Americans used to love the story of the grocery store clerk who made it to the MLB.... You notice that NEVER happens anymore... Do you ever wonder why?
Here is the simple rub, these other countries see industry in the US with high value in athletics, but US rich folks see it as a scam to rip off middle class parents for investment funding.
Both the parents and the zero funding from the state is competing in the US with foreign government programs which provide cradle to pro circuit funding and lifestyle for skilled kids.
No investment in the US means US kids always lose in numbers to foreignors for every us thing of value.
I went to an exclusive golf range the other day and they have about 30 slots and every one of them was occupied by an Asian. They take their golf as seriously as their math.
People do. Don't buy the lies.
Tiger is half asian 😀😀
Best kept secret
he black
Go Megan Khang 👍👏🙏🤘☝️❤ Love you Hmong girl...
What is Hmong ? Hah
Alison and Megan are the few examples of successful Asian-American LPGA golfers who come from a not so well off financial background. It's a pay to succeed model now. Those families who can afford top-notch golf instructors, not just swing but also a putting/short game and mental coach and even fitness trainer will have a huge advantage. A typical AJGA 2-day tournament usually cost a family over $1000 in tournament/hotel fees, practice round, food, gas.
As an Asian myself, my parents never 'pushed' me into sports. They didn't 'go all in'. Sports was a way to get exercise, to have fun after school, a way to make friends, a way to learn how to play with others as a team. Never in a million years did they ever think, "If I go all in and practice 24/7 so my son could be pro one day". Never. They pushed one thing and one thing only- Education. That's it. Great for these young girls that made it. But they are the exception and not the rule.
I can’t wait to see these and other amazing golfers go for the gold!
Xander Schauffele's mom is Taiwanese, he's dominating the PGA championship right now!
I didn't know that, thanks.
Just beautiful! Go team USA!!!
I think Nelly Korda is dominating actually.
Nelly Korda took this personally 😂😂
It's more than top 6 out of 25 in the grand scheme. According it Rolex World Rankings Asians are top 19/25.
I think she was referring to "Asian American". But, 19/25 is not bad.
Exactly my point! Why are we singling them out by race! If they are winning then America 🇺🇸 is winning.
@@Lovetoall14People think of America as White peoples Caucasian .
@@rithythach3992 No. It is pretty lousy. If you look at the rolex rankings closely, you'll see something like 30+ koreans, about 20 Japanese, and about 11 Americans IN THE TOP 100.
American women's golf developement is horrendous. They can't keep up. It will be decades before the USGA and LPGA can fix their dev system. until then, watch the Korean and Japanese tours.
The next batch of Korean's are about to hit the LPGA.
Great going ladies...hope more kids get inspiration from you.
This is nothing new. It all started with the Korean women golfers dominating the LPGA starting around the early 2000s.
segment is about asian americans, not foreign born asians
@@GAMBOLLL81 Yes, but Asian immigrants play a lot of golf and also drive there kids to be really good at it. In my opinion the parents see golf as a sport that wealthy and upper class people in the US play. It's a good way to blend in and show the wealth you have accumulated through hard work.
*This all coming from a white man, who is married to a 1st generation daughter of a South Korean immigrant. My mother in law ended up becoming one of the top golfers (senior, forgot to mention that part) in Hawaii for a few years when Michell Wie started to take over that scene.
@@GAMBOLLL81 The point is people are more influenced and motivated by people who are similar to them. Once the Korean women showed the world that it was possible to succeed in the LPGA, more Asian women and women of Asian descent got interested in golf. The same way Tiger Woods got more people of African descent interested in golf.
Exactly! Why are we singling out their race?
I been to the indoor dome golf driving range and it is mostly Koreans where I live. Koreans love to play golf.
Look at baseball and Shohei Ohtani. Basketball players are pre dominately....
Cause the black people won't allow it. Just look at Lin and Ming
@@simpolangdisagree. Who calls the shots. Who owns the nba??? You have to convince them to get rid of their conscious and subconscious biases and sometimes bigotry against Asians
@@simpolang They want to dominate but look at the European stars like Jokic and Luka Doncic.
@@user-er3ri6sc3j I'm talking about Asians specifically
They are pre dominantly tall if that’s what you mean
Inspiring!
LPGA pros can earn well over a million a year...some 2-3 million...not including endorsement monies. I'd rather my daughter at least give it a try if she loves it than settling for a 9-5 job she hates.
Yep. I dont even golf but joked to my wife that our daughter will golf and/or do tennis
Your daughter will need to devote her life to golf to make the LPGA. But if she wants to do that, then I hope she succeeds.
not really worth the investment when pga tour makes 3 times as much. the competition lvl isnt as high but doubt it translates equivalently with the lower purse. lpga pros dont make for good wives if family isnt a focus than its a good route if you enjoy the game.
Nom Pro Sport seems like its worth the effort...until you try it. Male professionals also can be crappy spouses ...look at Tiger...and now Rory
@@freedomrulesjavier3904 a women on the road all the time is not the same. most probably dont get married until they give it up like michelle wee did. tiger is crappy because he got caught cheating on a woman that was there for a paycheck is up for debate. rory isnt even married.
Very common with immigrant Asian families. The amount of pressure when the whole families go in 100% into the kid's success, is insane.
And Nelly Korda is dominating all!
The Se Ri Pak effect. Love to see it!
Finally NBC covering a story with some merit. You think these girls are good you should watch KLPGA. Asian women are just better…at everything. 😊
They’re definitely not better at driving cars
Nelly Korda is dominating women’s golf
She doesn't count, she is white.
They also dominate reporting the news 😁😅😂
Maybe I should start watching womens golf. Guess I've been missing out.
But the top golfer, Nelly Korda is Czech American! A je to krásná žena taky!!!
Nelly is my the favorite golfer but nothing is set in stone in golf.
If you check top female golfers and champions for the past 10 years you will clearly see this.
🎉good job….
Bring home the glory, bring home the gold! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
They are holding us down
Makes sense....sports that require discipline, intelligence, focus, metal toughness Asians will be a force to be reckoned with.
Now we know y we don’t get much coverage of woman’s golf
Nelly Korda isn't Asian American. But I get the point.
the Vice President isn't black either but you get the point...
There is no point other than to insinuate America is racist. Of course, this news story is racist.
@@ImionsaeXwb77 The VP is a descendant of slave owners.
Nelly Korda is also the hottest female golfer.
Lets go AK.🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷
Why the labels. I thought we were all just Americans
@@primo_budino I somewhat agree, but it does create needless division, especially if you're 2nd-gen and born in America. It's like you're always an outsider, not part of the only society you know. First-gen is more understandable as they have an immigrant identity. Speaking as a 2nd-gen child.
@@sociolocomtsacI hear you, many things can be true!
@@primo_budino You didn't answer my question .What is the correlation between background and sharing American values . Also I didn't make any reference to diversity. Not sure what that has to do with the need for some to put a label on anyone.
@@primo_budinothat was such a weird attempt at comparative explanation…and it missed the OP’s point completely. And by the way, there are major intra-group differences in how people are raised as well. Pretty sure John Daly and Nick Faldo had radically different upbringings despite them being both white as a sheet.
And this is why they should only be allowed to compete on the Korean tour. I made that up because the title was horrible. Golf goes in waves. As a lifelong golfer the best way to grow sport is thru diversity. The more that play the better the sport is. I don’t want to go to courses and see a bunch of me on the course only. Golf is great and should be more accessible.
Well, this is all good stuff, love seeing American golfs rock. But Nelly Korda is dominating women's golf......Hello
Great to see. Bet they are smart too
They work harder
I'm never really sure what to think of stories like these which tends to come from Asian immigrant families. Part of me is actually a bit jealous. I think competitiveness and hard work and a drive for accomplishment is a good thing. People seem to almost push back on me for that I think because they get jealous of other's success. But mortaging your whole future for your kid sounds a bit nuts. I knew some students that just crumbled under that kind of pressure.
The game requires intelligence, mental toughness, discipline, drive, logic and problem solving. What about those things are not stereotypical of Asians in general? It's not by mistake.
The Tiger Woods effect....Love it
It’s actually the Sei Ri Pak effect. She started the Korean dominance and eventually the Asian dominance. Most of the top Asian American golfers are of Korean immigrant parents.
Nelly is the only dominator of the current lpga era
lol, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing articles in past about how Koreans were killing the interest in the LPGA.
I'm pretty sure you just made that up.
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403
2003: Jan Stephenson, who became the first woman to play on the Champions Tour on Friday, said Asians are "killing" the LPGA Tour and their numbers should be limited.
2008: The LPGA Tour have backed off a plan to require players to speak English or face suspensions, with LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens saying that a punishment-free program would be adopted.
2019: Hank Haney was openly and unabashedly dismissive of the women’s game on his SiriusXM Radio show last week. As a high-profile figure in an influential position, he basically said he couldn’t care less about professional women’s golf and its biggest event of the year. And, he implied that Korean dominance was a big turnoff, that all he could be certain of is that there were a bunch of players named Lee in the field.
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 UA-cam is cranky and doesn't like lots of data / quotes:

And yeah, that's from 2003.
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403 I'm pretty sure you are clueless when it comes to this subject.
sad but true
The more you practice, the better the results.
They are Americans only, we don't put special label on Nelly or others.
What out for DEI (Didn't Earn It) may just take it all away...
A passion for golf has preceded the decline of all great civilizations.
I thought they were inspired by Tiger Woods more than Michelle Wee. lol.......
I think we're more inspired by the potential paycheck!
There's women's golf?
First and foremost, they are American. Anything else comes after.
Both of Alison Lee’s parents are Korean? Her father doesn’t look Asian
Asian

identity politics is exhausting and boring...
Ehhh.. pretty normal.

Lazy workers
Yup rich house wife leisure sport.
So many fools on yt.
But what is a Woman?
It depends if you think having a womb is a requirement
LAOS!!
Save me the crocodile tears!!!! There were/are many white golfers who didn’t have the funds!!! Also, Se Ri Pak had nothing to her name and no family support in America and did it all on her OWN. I swear i hate the, “we had nothing while my friends flew in jets…” BS. Ben Hogan came from a family where his father committed suicide and had to start as a caddie working long hours while honing his skills to become one of the greatest golfers in the history of golf.
The media is contemptable. And so are these privileged, pampered professional golfers.
too bad for the women who are still stuck IN Asia 😐
Nelly is the top dawg she aint asian.
Why is that non white americans are called "insert country here-Americans" ...yet If ur white & born here, but parents are not American... it's just American?
what happened to white american women golfers?
The best woman golfer in the world is white.
Outside of Nelly Korda, they’re all simply not good enough
They are highlighting mediocre golfers 😂😂😂
Pretty sure only the best can play on the womens tour 🤡
@mre_man meghan kang and alison lee probably have 1 lpga tour win between them...there are way more accomplished asian american lpga players JS
I wish I hear the work European-American in my life
Good for them but too bad no one watches women's golf
Clearly enough people watch golf that the prize money is in the millions. This isn't the WNBA, buddy: people watch. While I don't go searching for women's golf, if I actually have time to sit down on a Saturday afternoon and women's golf is on, I absolutely have no issues watching. When Michelle Wie was doing her thing, I'd definitely watch if I had time.
The issue is there are so many things to watch and do, it's hard for any one thing to grab everyone's attention. But again, this isn't the WNBA: people watch women's golf, otherwise, the prize money wouldn't be in the millions.
Multi million winning pots, not to mention multi-million endorsement deals.
@@dontbanmebrodontbanme5403you don’t understand anything about golf do you
No one watches Men’s golf either😅
@rickyayy they dont get nearly as much money as the men.
Western parents more concerned with materialism
The only Women's Sports that you can make real money in is Golf & Tennis. Basketball, Softball, Soccer, Lacrosse, there are no Female pro leagues that pay anything to live on. So if you have daughters, guild them into Golf & Tennis, thank me later :)
So true…most girls go into volleyball.
This needs to be addressed. Where’s the diversity? What about the white, Hispanic, or black women. There needs to be more consideration for the more marginalized and economically challenged players.
Tell that to NBA and NFL
It is diverse. Diversity means no whites, especially no white men.
More Eskimos!
Im sure Megan is a fairly nice person, but her dad... treats other Hmong people like 2nd class citizens
Funny, there are so much criticism when a colored individual plays for an Asian country. But when an Asian plays and represent America...double standards
What's a "colored individual"?

Who cares about race? People are people. We're all human. This is ridiculous. Would they have the same headline in Asia if races other than Asian were dominating? Probably not. You'd never see "Caucasian Japanese" dominating golf. (And I said "Japanese" because it's equal to "American" in that it denotes nationality and not race skin color)
everybody actually. there are genetic and cultural differences. And do not project. America is not the world
Stop whining
Who cares?
I think we need affirmative action in LGPA like university. Too many Asians.
Yeah this is no new story...LPGA is completely dominated by asian women. I dont watch LPGA that much anymore because there are so few americans that can compete anymore.
Did you miss the detail that six of these women are Asian AMERICAN?

What an extremely racist interview. Absolutely disgraceful. Shame
Which part?
What was racist about it? serious question.
White people have dominated this sport for a long time the only sport white rich men have left is cricket 🏏 😂 that sport sucks you can have that

@@wudemaya Wake up.
The US women's golf situation is really bad. Their players aren't developing fast enough. Top Korean talent turn pro at 18. Most of the top talent are expected to go to college. Waste of time. College programs would rather have 6 top foreigners than 3 lack luster Americans on their team.
Their tiny frames, small chests, and low body fat gives them an excellent power-to-weight ratio. They'd make lousy football players though...
Ignorant much?
This comment is extremely racist and distasteful
What’s funny is they act like they were kept out of golf or discriminated against. It is not shocking that they are good. They were welcomed to our country with open arms and given a great opportunity to be free and put their talents to work. Had they come as black people before the civil rights movement, then we would have a story.
Didn't come across like that to me at all. There was no mention of discrimination. It's pretty obvious professional golf was only filled with well to do white folks and now it's becoming more diversified. It looks more to me like you're projecting your politics onto this.
@@RoughNeckDelta The title is, “Asian American athletes dominate women’s golf.” What if the title was, “White American men dominate business”? Or, “Black American men dominate basketball”? Or, “Dominican American Men Dominate baseball?” It seems like you are just dividing people by “race” to make a story. Who cares? Why couldn’t we focus on a title like, “two great women from humble beginnings, are dominating women’s golf?” Nothing ever stopped Asian people from playing golf in their home country. Nothing stopped them from playing here in the United States. Why is this a news worthy story? Doesn’t seem like a healthy, non-racist country, would care who did what in a free society and only focus on “race”. How much in common does a person from Laos 🇱🇦 and a person from South Korea 🇰🇷 really have in common other than being classified into a made up racist group. My political agenda is for the United States 🇺🇸 to welcome all people and stop hyper focusing on “race”, which is a made up social construct really only talked about in formerly racist countries like the United States and South Africa. To me, the story is two people from humble beginnings dominate a game made for rich people. It is hard for a poor white man to “dominate” golf without money for coaches and green fees. So, why focus on them being Asian?
You totally missed the point. This is a story about immigrant parents who made enormous personal sacrifices, so their children can have a better opportunity.
oh there used to be a lot of racism when koreans first started playing in the lpga, i'm sure there was plenty before. if you grow up as a minority, especially asian, discrimination is common enough you anticipate and expect it, it's pretty normal so you learn to deal with it to a degree too, but it's never pleasant
@@RoughNeckDelta 💯
Professional women's golf is boring and no fun. There are no interesting personalities. All are robot like, had parents pushing them hard and never show any real emotion. Don't believe me? Go to LPGA tour stop, then a PGA tournament to see the huge difference. After going to a few women's tournaments, where I felt like I was a roaring drunk at church, ( no, I did not drink anything....)I decided to stick with men's tournaments. Much more jovial banter with fellow fans, good vibes, fun and lively. You almost feel the expensive costs to attend are worth your entertainment money.
