I apologize on behalf of Cambodians to you guys that our guide at Angkor did not tell you the main things that you would like to know. I hope you have an incredible moment here, and I thank you for coming to our country. The carving at Angkor Wat temple was purposely built for Hinduism; however, the carving at Bayon Temple is the only temple that shows the daily lives of KHMER people during that era. It showed daily activities, war, and was the only temple built for Buddhism during that era. The total faces at the Bayon temple intotal have 49 plus 5 (on the main gate) = 54, representing the 54 provinces during the Khmer Empire.

We visited Angkor Wat in 2018 and we were struck with awe due to the sheer magnitude. We did a bit of a research before we went and thats why we loved the experience so much. We were wondering if you come across any documentary of Angkor Wat with an architectural point of view, could you please recommend it. We have an ancient ruin that is not well known to the world called Paharpur UNESCO Heritage site of Bangladesh also known as Sompura Mahavihara a buddhist bihar ruins. The architecture of Paharpur influenced other buddhist architectures as far as Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia. Love & respect from Bangladesh.

Angkor Wat and especially the many other temples are my favourite in the world so far!! They are awesome, so many quiet ones, tree covered ones, big and small ones!! I spent 3 days there, saw 3 sunrises too. I will be back one day with my twin boys. Happy Travels

If you enjoy exploring temples, try to see Sarkhej Roza near Ahmedabad, in Gujarat, India. Just looking at the photos from an internet search is amazing, actually being there is like being in another world. When you get there, you'll get a chance to see the detailed marble carving that were done in the 1400s.

Angkor Wat is always beautiful to me since I first visited when I was a kid back in 1963 till now. My return since 1963 was in 1996 and it was still incredibly beautiful and tranquil. Love Angkor Wat, it’s unexplainable experience than all the places that I had visited for the past. Thanks for sharing your great experience in Cambodia. Hope you guys will be back in the future.

This place is stunning. I think it spend the whole day in one spot trying to understand how we went from building such structures or even the forbidden temple or Taj Mahal to having glass towers receiving global recognition and awards. I'm in awe of this place. ❤❤

Such a fascinating piece of history Buddys. It's hard to believe that it was largely forgotten, but sometimes that helps because later people don't steal the stones to build something else as happened to a lot of ancient Roman buildings. I couldn't help but notice how colour coordinated you both were with the green clothing.

    • @thebuddymoon

Hinduism was existed 80-90% of Asian continent before 6th AD. Later Buddha from our country of India was went around Asia and spread Buddhism. Hindu temples existed even with Hindu gods statues everywhere in Asian countries which is really sad destroyed by Buddhists & Muslims at that time.

Yes, bujang valley Malaysia, borobudur, prambanan Indonesia, Angkor wat Cambodia. Malaysia's bujang valley was the oldest but never applied to UNESCO. Because Muslims in kedah were not happy to promote Hinduism places to the world as 'more older and prosperous' than Islam. This is my opinion.

I'm hindu, but I also think Buddhism Jainism or any other religion is nice as far as they are promoting peace within us or outer.

Yeah, you definitely need more than a day to explore Angkor Wat and the many surrounding temples. I have been there numerous times, and each time having spent at least three days in Siem Reap and yet there are still temples and ruins in the area that I have missed out on. Angkor Wat alone could take one a whole day just to cover the main parts of the complex - briefly!
When I went there the first time with my girl friend before the influx of mass tourists in the early 1990s we had not even completed the eartern gallery yet and she turned to me and said: Have we not been here already?, to which I said: No, we are still doing the first wall, dear. There are still 3 more to go...
PS: Out of the builder and the anthropologist/sociologist in you two, I prefer the latter. Besides, she's much prettier): Stay safe.

Many records state that the Khmer empire weakened when the Siamese sacked Angkorwat and kidnapped artists and dancers back to the Siamese capital of Ayuthaya in the 14th century. This marked the turning point of Thai culture and Khmer culture. Thai culture than expanded from this point on while what we know as “Cambodia” today suffered years of ongoing war between Thailand and Vietnam.

Angkor Wat definitely gets its due credit awaited for so long
    But on a sidenote
All hindu temples here in india deserve to be in the wonders list
For ex you guys if what i can sense is correct liked the details of the temple
Then you shd have visited the Konark Sun temple and puris jagannath temple
Although you won't get a guided tour in Puri as its too crowded
You can definitely get a guided tour in konark and witness the true wonder of the word
    The details are centuries ahead
The scientific things there are just out of this world
For instance i turned from an atheist to believer seeing that
Its capable of making anyone cry of embarrassment that how on earth was this history hidden from us
But India has been perceived by things like taj mahal which are in no way not great
    But stand completely dwarfed here...
Even today foreigners when try to uncover india
Don't realise the epic hindu culture and its temples and its kinda sad and ps ig you guys shd understand the culture through the guides just like he did because thats where the true beauty of it lies ... visiting hindu temples without guides will definitely take 90 percent of the amazingness out because one needs to understand these temples arent a way to make you feel like in past but tbh these temples are more worthy in leaving you in awe of the scientific prospect
And trust me i am not promoting my religion here
But you need to understand the culture before visiting these temples
Else i dont want to be mean
But you guys are missing 99 percent of the awe prospect...

Angkor wat was built by khmer kings whose ancestors came from India. India has lots of great architecture temples like this. but every foreigner ignores them and visit overrated Taj Mahal.

So sad you only got a one day pass. So many more interesting and different temples in the area. 3 days should be the minimum. On all my many trips from Australia I always got multiple 7 day tickets from 2009-2020 and I would spend 3 , 3 month trips each year. I made so many friends both in Siem Reap and at some of the temples. And though I don’t go back anymore I am still in touch with 8 of my friends from those days.
    The Cambodians are wonderful people.

India also had such gems of architecture in past, only few are left. sadly, these marvels were destroyed by Islamic invaders. 😔😔 This was saved because it is away from there reach.

How did you shoot your drone footage? Is it allowed? Or you flew from far away? Is it allowed in general in Cambodia now - to fly a drone? I know one Aussie journalist who spent 2 years in Cambodian jail for drone flying. But it was many years ago...
