Not an isolated incident. Almost no square foot of Earth is exempt from bloodshed. That's why you see castles and walls all over the world from every century, from every culture. Not for one minute do I disagree that the cost of war isn't high, or long lasting, and without jumping down a philosophical rabbit hole a mile deep, I don't think it is right to describe war in general as 'senseless acts of violence'. War is often the inevitable and unfortunate, but necessary conclusion when diplomatic efforts fail, notwithstanding despots, dictators, and leaders for whom there is no negotiating, and the only way to defeat them is through violence. Of course there are many different types of conflict, that occur for many different reasons, and taking the case in point of Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror on the Cambodian people, I think you're much closer to the mark. However, and I know this is an oversimplification, if it hadn't been for Vietnam's military action in 1979, overthrowing Pol Pot, it would have been a lot worse than it already had been. UXO (unexploded ordnance) is a serious issue, that continues to affect many people around the world, long after they were used, and for anyone interested, there are two organisations MAG (The mines advisory group) and The Halo Trust, that work all over the world clearing mines and munitions. I know more than a few ex colleagues that have worked for these charities, one of whom got badly injured and lost limbs as a result (Chris Moon for anyone interested). I take my hat off to the guy you featured at the beginning of the video, and the work he has done to make his country safer for others.
Thank you so much for sharing your perspective. You bring up some important points that we didn’t fully explore in our video, and we completely agree that war, while devastating, is often far more complex than it may appear on the surface. You’re absolutely right that there are situations where military action becomes an unfortunate necessity, especially when faced with despots and regimes that leave no room for negotiation, as was the case with Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge. Vietnam’s intervention in 1979 is a perfect example of how military action can bring about necessary change and relief for countless lives. In hindsight, we could have done a better job of acknowledging the nuances of these situations in our commentary. Our intention wasn’t to dismiss the complexities of war or the difficult decisions involved, but rather to reflect on the enduring impact it leaves on civilians, especially through issues like unexploded ordinance. We’re incredibly grateful to individuals and organizations like MAG and The Halo Trust for their bravery and dedication to making the world safer, and it’s inspiring to hear about your connections to their work. We’re also in awe of the resilience of the Cambodian people and the efforts of individuals like Aki Ra, who are taking action to heal their communities and protect future generations. Your insight and the resources you mentioned add so much depth to this conversation, and we’re grateful for your perspective. Thank you for sharing this and for being part of this journey with us. ❤️🙏
@@mikeandashley More proof of the thought and consideration you both make in deciding where to go and what to see and share in your videos. Very different to many other travel vloggers, so kudos to you and keep doing what you're doing. I don't think you need to apologise at all for missing anything out. You didn't set out to present a complete perspective of what is an incredibly complex subject and part of history. I think what you presented was an interesting insight and also highlighting the innovative methods being used to clear UXO in Cambodia, a subject you clearly had been interested in for some time. Please continue your travels with your eyes and minds open and allow us to live vicariously through you. Kind regards.
GOD Bless you guys and Happy Belated Birthday Ashley! 😊🎉 May you both continue to enjoy your time in the Official 8th World Wonder, Angkor Wat and Cambodia overall. I think your kindness and compassion toward the Cambodians are so admirable and awesome! Most Cambodians are like my Cambodian friends, who are some of the most genuinely kind people on earth. Blessings to all the Good Kind people on Earth! 🙏❤️ To All the Bad Immoral thais in the comments online, below, and elsewhere: There are just too many lies and disinformation from so many thais now more than ever harassing, lying, and devaluing Cambodians. Enough already! Hey Chinese Pirates, go and learn your real history and origins and stop with your ridiculous disgusting lies. Are you fabricating all of these in your deluded minds or nightmares?! Are you that desperate and scared that the whole world may learn the truth about the Khmer Cambodian Empire ruling over most of South East Asia and reigned before you even arrived from China???! thais were Chinese pirates escaping Southern China to settle in the Khmer territories. There were no thai empire and kingdom before the Khmer Cambodian Empire. The Khmer Cambodian Empire reigned from the 9th - 15th century and the Khmer Kingdom also existed since the 1st Century and possibly before that as the Funan Kingdom. siam was non-existent and insignificant during that time and lost many battles with Khmers afterwards. That is also depicted in the Khmer Angkor Wat reliefs. Oh yeah, you were unsuccessful in stealing Angkor Wat as well because in the end, the Khmers fought back for them. When you finally came into your “ayuthaya period” in the 15th century, thais were only able to occupy and invade Cambodia when it became vulnerable through the death of King Javaraman V11, Overwhelming Natural Disasters, Royal Monarchy Conflicts, and Demanding Irrigation System. Otherwise, you would not have had a chance to touch Cambodia and the Khmer people. If you don’t look Chinese, you are probably mixed with Khmer or Indian because the majority of Khmers have Indian Ancestors. Use your brains or maybe you don't have that either. Apparently, it's too occupied with a bunch of crap. thais, Vietnamese, Laotians, and Burmese are all Chinese descendants. Many other parts of Asia like Singapore, Taiwan, Japanese, and Koreans are Chinese descendants as well. The first Indianization in South East Asia originated with the marriage of an Indian elite and a Khmer elite princess. It all starts with Cambodia and the Khmers. Get it through that brainless skull of yours. The truth and facts are there but clearly, you are still too blind and immoral to see them. Only stupid ignorant or immoral people like you would believe your disgusting lies. The world is not falling for your lies and manipulation anymore. Some Reputable and Reliable sources like Britannica Encyclopedia reveals the Truth and people with a good pair of eyes, ears, and a brain, will see it for themselves. Other good reliable sources come from an ancient writings from foreign diplomats in Portugal and China and also Historians from both India and Cambodia. The fact that most thais are still lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating, and spreading disinformation like their Chinese pirate ancestors, shows how weak, pathetic, desperate, disgraceful, and immorally disgusting, all of you are. Are you scared that the whole world will finally know the TRUTH?! Is that why you are desperately spreading more lies now more than ever??? Go back to Hell where you belong. Cambodia may have borrowed some things from you in modern times, which are insignificant. However, the things you stole from Cambodia claiming they are yours since ancient times, are all significant essential things to a whole race or ethnic group. There are things you were able to steal from Cambodia like art, architecture, culture, tradition, literature, foods, etiquette, formalities, dances, costumes, royal monarch court dances (your badly poor copycat version), royal court etiquette, and more; there are much more you were unsuccessful in robbing from Cambodia. By the way, this is my final comment to you to set you straight. I don't feel the need to further communicate with brainless disgusting immoral people. Whether you receive the lesson or not is entirely up to you. Most Cambodians are some of the most genuinely kind people in the world. They do not deserve this kind of disgusting harassment and treatment from you. Go back to hell and stay there permanently.
Thank you for the kind words towards us. We’re sorry about the difficulties you faced with people saying negative things. Hopefully everyone can just get along one day.
@@mikeandashleyThank you guys but it’s not me. I have sweet Cambodian friends I met at Church. They have experienced harassments from thais both online and in person before. It’s sad and I wish they didn’t have to encounter that. They don’t deserve it at all. Thank you anyway and I you guys continue to enjoy your time in Cambodia. 😊
I would like to ask you about your experience and Cambodian tradition. As far as I know, Cambodians don't say " thank you" all the time. Is it true now? I don't mean that they don't say it. It just means that they don't say it all the time like you buy something. We say it all the time after the end of the transaction.
That’s not true. It’s depend on the person. Mostly of the time we will say thank you after any transaction. As you heard in that video, he said “ Orkun Bong “ which translate to “Thank you brother” and the TukTuk driver reply him back with “ Thank to you too “.
@@mrrnorakneath3544Believe me. That is not common in Southeast Asia. I know they do say it all the time to foreigners because they want to be courteous. It doesn't mean they are when they don't say it. Have you seen they say nothing when you say thank you. This is not just Cambodia. They do similar in Thailand as well.
Thank you for pointing this out-it’s definitely a sensitive topic, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective. Our understanding is that while Vietnam played a crucial role in liberating Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge, their presence in Cambodia until 1989 is sometimes viewed as an occupation, though interpretations differ depending on one’s perspective. We always aim to approach these topics respectfully, and while we may not always get it perfect, our intention is to highlight the resilience and history of the people involved. We’re grateful for your feedback. ❤️😊
The history of Pra Nakhon (khown as Angkor Wat), if you look at the painting of Longvek, the Khmer capital, painted at the same period as Ayutthaya, it shows that Longwek, the Khmer capital, had no art or architecture similar to Angkor Wat. However, all culture and architecture in Angkor Wat were transfered to Thai-Ayutthaya! The kings that ruled Angkor Wat were not Cambodia-Khmers but were Thais. Varman dynasty who built Pra Nakhon (khown as Angkor Wat) were Thais from Pimai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thail King Jayavarman was betrayed and murdured by Khmer slave name Trasak Peam. The Varman family therefore cursed the Cambodia-Khmers to be forever slaves of other nations. Thais from Pra Nakhon (Angkor Wat) moved to central of Thailand, joined other Thais and established a new empire, Pra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya. Trasak Peam ruled Angkor Wat only 13 years. Thais took Pra Nakhon (Angkor Wat) back and ruled Pra Nakhon (Angkor Wat) for 600 years until the France invasion.
I would very much like to see some evidence to support your statements because what you said is not true at all. I have never heard of anyone says that the king that rule Angkor wat is Thai. The king is clearly Khmer there's thousands of evidence everywhere and I don't know where you got that information from saying that the king is Thai. Khmer Empire Influence: During the height of the Khmer Empire (9th-15th centuries), parts of what is now Thailand, particularly in the central and northeastern regions, were under Khmer rule or cultural influence. This is evident in architectural styles, such as the Khmer-style temples (e.g., Phimai and Phanom Rung), and in early Thai art and iconography. Ancient stone temples in Thailand like hin phimai and phnom rung are all khmer temples. Your country only has Khmer heritage.
I don't know why Thai people has to get involved with everything related to Cambodia and always try to degrade our country and posting false information all the time. does it kill you if can't be jealous towards Cambodia? Please accept the fact that Thai culture is heavily influenced from Cambodia from the past and present. Thai never had any culture and kingdoms until after the fall of the Khmer empire.
Weren't Thai people a slave of Khmer kingdom in the 13th century when Thai people fled from Yunan province of China and they were under Khmer rule over a thousand years and received their cultures from the Khmers?
Very funny how Thai people is trying so hard to uplift their culture and the History of Thailand that doesn't even exist in the comment section. There's no Ayutthaya kingdom and ratchasima kingdom and also king Rama doesn't exist
We didn’t experience this at all. Everyone we interacted with was kind and welcoming. Our drivers gave us fair prices, even better than the ride share apps.
When you troll a wonderful vlog like this, it does not make Thailand look good at all. It's best to leave people alone. Go bash Cambodia somewhere else.

Thanks Sean. That means a lot. 🫶

To All the Bad Immoral thais in the comments online, below, and elsewhere:
There are just too many lies and disinformation from so many thais now more than ever harassing, lying, and devaluing Cambodians.
We're not sure, to be honest. 😅 We're overly polite as Americans, so it's difficult to know if the locals act the same way when we're not around.
i saw you live in cambodia and i very worry about you all.
many thing that place not be ok , i hope you ill be fine and quickly to thailand .
Can you guys just stop with the spreading rumors around tactic. Stupid thai nationalist
Stupidity knows no limits and keep hiding in your shell. There are always pros and cons no matter where we live. Peace out idiot😂!
Thank you for your concern, but we had a great time and never felt unsafe. Thailand will always be our second home. 🥰❤️

Interesting!
I would very much like to see some evidence to support your statements because what you said is not true at all. I have never heard of anyone says that the king that rule Angkor wat is Thai. The king is clearly Khmer there's thousands of evidence everywhere and I don't know where you got that information from saying that the king is Thai.
Khmer Empire Influence:
During the height of the Khmer Empire (9th-15th centuries), parts of what is now Thailand, particularly in the central and northeastern regions, were under Khmer rule or cultural influence.
I stink so much pee. The city is full of garbage and taking advantage of tourists to cheat them.
