High school me was in love with this album and this track in particular. I'm thirty now. Thanks The Postal Service.
Edit: Finally got to see them tonight (9/19/23) for this album's 20th anniversary. It was everything.
I'm right there with you. Nostalgia is overwhelming
@@OffbeatLiteracy thanks. Especially this year.... At least we have music to reminisce to.
This reminds me of waiting in front of school after 6th period. Waiting for the rest of my friends to walk to the front of the school. And the we would chill and hand out and discuss what we were doing after .
@@plaguerson what I love about UA-cam when it's not infested with an influx of mindless commentary is the genuine fleeting connection that comments on these older songs usually have.
I’m also thirty now and second your comment lol
one of those songs that even though it's been a million years I get it stuck in my head
God, what a great song. This may be the best song on one of the best albums ever.
“I need you to pretend that we are in love again, and you agreed to” is one of the most gut-wrenching lyrics i’ve ever heard
You should listen to Elliott Smith!
And I find the line " I am finally seeing why I was the one worth leaving" from The District Sleeps Alone Tonight a total gut punch.
I miss all this music

Here from the beginning
Soul changing 🎶❤
I’m snowed in, remembering when I lived outside of DC. Just reminiscing. This album is winter incarnate to me.
Still come back to this song. 2024
This album is Gold!
2020 we still here trust me forever will be here since 99 heard this in second grade when we 4 brothers shared a room lolol
I was 19. Amazing time in music during the golden age of the internet.
2020 Anyone listening still?
Forever listening. 💚
I will always come back to this song. And album.
One of my favourite albums of all time. Feeling the nostalgia
Always
Duhhhhh lol jk much love
It's so calm it makes you tired
2024 here ❤
One of the only good things to come from the 00’s.
2024 🎉 😂still goin’ STRONG.
I will die still loving Give Up and Transatlanticism
Remembering Her.
It would be cool if the Postal Service did a fundraiser for the Postal Service.
Jay and silent bob go down under
Still. Keep them coming people. Even if you are as reclusive as me. Haha.
Of all the music I have ever listened to, this song has always been my favorite.
Probably because I discovered it in such a happy and carefree part of my life. I always feel at peace when I hear it, so thanks for reposting this to UA-cam :D
Moon Script I relate so hard to that second part?
Same goods days i want them back😖
The year is 2005. I’m coming back to my dorm room around 3am healthily buzzed. Pop my laptop open, load iTunes, and plug my earbuds in. Fade away into blissful sleep jamming to this album with no real wake up time. Take me back.
Wonderful description.
I feel like I've died a thousand times to this song playing over my car radio, running into the city on the train to grab some groceries, and sitting outside the bar on a friday night at 4 am. It never runs the same way in my mind, but it always pulls what life I have from my chest and leaves it where I was.
Niko Bleau this record was one of my few go-to tripping albums. Whether it was a great trip to make it a little better, or a trip going bad and needing something to pull me out of it or reverse course. Just had to say I know exactly what you’re talking about haha.
I love your comment so much. I read it over and over and i feel the same exact way, I just couldn't put it into words myself 💓 I've loved the postal service for a long time but for some reason I always skipped over this song but a few days ago it played and i finally listened to it and ive had it on repeat since then. I love the lyric "and I want life in every word to the extent that it's absurd"
Holy shit, this was so eloquent, thank you for sharing it with us. I literally saw those moments in my head.
I can’t agree more, it happens to me as well. So powerful was my life, and this song when it first came out which has created a relationship with the song that will never end.
Pfff 😢
A crush of mine showed me this band in high school. I would always skip over this song but I came across it a few days ago and I just cant get over it. I havent talked to the person who showed me this song in a few years but today I saw them in the grocery store after years of no contact. I feel like its a sign but idk what it means ...
What happened?!? Did you start talking again?
The universe winked at you.

I was waiting for a cross-town train in the London Underground
When it struck me (when it struck me)
That I'd been waiting since birth to
Find a love that would look and sound
Like a movie
So I changed my plans, I rented a camera and a van
And then I called you
I need you to pretend that we are in love again
And you agreed to
I want so badly to believe
That there is truth, that love is real
And I want life in every word
To the extent that it's absurd
I grease the lens and frame the shot using a friend
As my stand-in (as my stand-in)
The script had called for rain but it was clear that day
So we faked it
The marker snapped and I yelled, "Quiet on the set!"
And then called, "Action!" (And the called action)
I kissed you in a style Clark Gable would have admired
I thought it classic
I want so badly to believe
That there is truth, that love is real
And I want life in every word
To the extent that it's absurd
I know you're wise beyond your years
But do you ever get the fear
That your perfect verse is just a lie
You tell yourself to help you get by
That you tell yourself to help you get by
That you tell yourself to help you get by
You dropped your crown, king/queen/nonbinary monarch 👑
" I know you're wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the fear
That your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by"
I thought it was "I know you're wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the feel, that you're perfect versus just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by"
that shit hits like a truck
@@Jahtso The song seems to be about a director (with what seems like compulsive control issues) attempting to create his perfect scene to convince HiMseLF that love can be real.
Perfect verse is referring to the script; saying it’s a lie just meaning it’s make believe.
I feel 16 and transported to 2005 when this song starts up. Maaan. Life really moves along at strange paces and it’s pretty startling when you are listening to something like this and thinking how it doesn’t feel very old. But it’s older that I was when I got into this record…
I don't understand how an album that I've heard for the first time can sound so nostalgic...
He's good at the.
@@chanuppuluri8726 The.........

Yes.
These songs are eternal. So they most likely existed before we did.
Did this band change your life permanently? How? This band rocked me to the inner core over a decade ago, and changed me forever!
I first heard it shortly after it came out. I was about 21. I listened to it hundreds of times over the next few years with the first real friends I ever had. Probably my best memories and still my favorite album of all time.
This band totally changed my life.
I think it did, yeah. Postal Service and Death Cab. I think they showed me that it was possible to be a geeky wordsmith-nerd and still be cool/ have romantic prospects / etc. "I want life in every word, to the extent that its absurd". -- that was like, a life motto for me after this tune; still is.
"I've been waiting since birth to find a love that would looks and sound like a movie...a want so badly to believe that there is truth that love is real, and I want life in every word to the extant that its absurd."
love is absurd.
Always loved that part too.
Frankly my dear I don’t give a damn
I kissed you in a style clark gable wouldve admired....
i thought it classic.

.@Jonah Rivera We all know how to complain too.
@Jonah Rivera Did you stop to think this was maybe useful to a lot of people?
Geeeeetttttt bbyyy
My mom doesnt know how to copy paste
Listened to this album while taking MDMA when I was 17. Sat with two friends on a trampoline next to the Biloxi coast telling heart-felt stories and crying (happily).
Jumping on a trampoline while rolling on e ,also very fun.
this album is the best even in 2021.
This song sounds amazing with 3000 watts behind two 12 inch subwoofers. I miss those days
It doesn't matter what song from The Postal Service I listen to, I cry
" And I know your wise beyond your years, but do you ever get the fear, that your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by." Damn..
This song makes me cry.
One of the best albums of 2003. Makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.
I've always wondered whether the opening line is a joke - I was waiting for a train, then it hit me. Ouch!
2019 Anyone still listening?
Oh Yeah.. one of the best albums ever!
Absolutely one of the best relatively unknown albums ever!!!!!!
I'm still here
a friend told me about these guys just last night and i really really dig them so far :3
Decade coming back to my favourite song
I remember hearing this in a college cafe back in 2004 or so, and I thought "is this the second coming of New Order?". I still think it feels more like classic New Order than New Order's own second coming, _Get Ready_!
Best song of the album, and it's a kickass album.
agreed
They thought it classic. ;)
Yes, great album.
I didn't really appreciate this song until I was at my lowest point, then I saw it in a whole new light, and now it's one of my favorites.
LOVE IS REAL... WHEN SHE'S REAL... AND DON'T COME WITH BS.... UNLESS YOU ALLOW IT....GOOD LUCK :)
2024 whos still here😁
Meowdy
Back when Yahoo had games where you could talk to your opponent, I was playing canasta at the time (I know that makes me sound like a dinosaur) But my opponent randomly told me to check this band out. (Again dinosaur) and Kazaa'd the SHIT out of this band. I cannot tell you the deep depression this music helped me with. I will forever be grateful.....
I used to play the Scrabble clone on there all the time and liked to both suggest music and see what others liked.
RIP James, thanks for showing me this album bro
This, skye sweetnam, and MSI were my guilty pleasure cds in highschool
This song is a work of unreal beauty.
I just realized that the album cover is looking out of a window.
Honestly I didnt realize that either until you just said it. I thought it was just a beige background. Amazing what happens when you open your eyes....
Jeez. Me to. In this very moment.
COVID 19. . .? Anyone still listening?
Made my mom cry by showing her this bands music
epic
This album was so damn good. True greatness. Please make another!!
2020 anyone still looking for a love you're certain only exist in movies?
2022 when it struck me.
So. Much. Nostalgia.
Been awhile...transatlanticism brought me here.
I love everything the postal service makes. I wish i was a teen at the time when they were releasing these songs.
Not an emo song. This beat is extremely high pace. Gigachad material.
I kissed you in a style Clark Gabriel would have admired. I thought it classic.
Philosopher James KA Smith uses this song to note the existential emptiness some experience within this age.
Favorite song of all time...
Postal service your true fans are still there .
On the Cusp of new years 2024 anyone still here?
I looked like a classic scandinavian boy in high school and now i've grown. I was having a strange identity crisis and felt so unwanted and felt like ignoring it all and had only so few healthy days. All i had was my "pimp" tapes and hip hop. I was so lost.
"I'd been waiting since birth to
find a love that would look and sound
like a movie"
The marker snapped •CLACK!!!• Fucking brilliant.
37 and going through memory lane here. I love the postal service
This is industrial pop, indie, video game Nine Inch Nails. I want more!
More Postal Service when?
All of the potential, and a Southern Gent Still finds a nomadic life wishing....a home with LOVE
The song just randomly popped into my head I listen to this song on repeat like 20 times one day lol 2020 still one of the best
The intro of this song is so goddamn peaceful.
2024 who’s still on it???
It is wild that this was like my favorite album during high school, and now my dad is really really into Postal Service / Death Cab for Cutie
Love this song I wished love was real too 😰
It is :)
+Justin M not for me sadly eventually.....
Cool Gange i know that feeling bro.
Love is real. Sometimes you just have to be patient in waiting for it to show itself. I know I'm still waiting.
Your perfect verse is just a lie you tell yourself to help you get by... so melancholy
2024 lets go❤
Beautiful melody ^^
This hits hard
Awesome.
🎵🎼🎶i need you to pretend that we are in love again 🎼🎵🎼and you agreed to 🎼🎶
mms mms mms
I feel like this is a winter album
I discovered it the summer after my 5th grade year. One of the best summers of my life. I can't listen to a single postal service song without being sent back to those golden sunsets with me and my friends playing in muddy creeks on the edge of the forest, and chasing after fireflies. For me personally, all of these older songs are the essence of summer.
2020 and still amazing
I love singing along out loud when my husband is not home
This song makes me think of a lover I never had.
has another artist sampled the intro of this song? cause it sounds so familiar, like I swear I've heard it elsewhere
God wow just amazing song writing.
used to not be annoying Cinderella skipping it's Jim's son🌸✝️
This album is my college days.
This is such a sad song. It makes me cry more than any other song I can think of.
I can't believe this only has 717k views.
The ending of this song live is so much for eminent and magnified
Postal service should have never ended!
2020
I was sippin lean when this song came out
What an album
2021 thank you postal service
10:30am January 9th 2020
best song on give up!
I love so much that album
I have a good history with this song, I liked a girl name Bailey that knew it a long time ago. In 2010 I requested on Columbia College radio in Chicago and during the DJ swap they played it for me :) whew
