    The heat source certainly is NOT irrelevant! Great Work David!

    Love it Dave. I was looking at bows right now. Seen some of these movies have been more complex. But yours was very clear and done well.

    Way cool man. Can't wait to make one of these. Much faster than waiting for my self bow to season. I've been itching to get working on my self bow but I can't rush it. This type of bow is nearly instant gratification. I wait in anticipation for part 2. -Krik

    You certainly can make a recurve... In fact, with the PVC you can do about anything you like! Check out Backyard Boyer's channel.. he makes all sorts of bows (which is how I found this idea)

    If you would like I suppose you can.. but I think making it offset would strengthen that area of the bow some.

    1st bow we did was Schedule 40 1 1/4". A 5 foot bow with a brace height of about 6" has 110# pull. I don't know how much more powerful you would like it.. but that's all I can do to pull that one :)

    Our last video showed us shooting the one that was made of 3/4" PVC.. They shoot really nicely, although the 3/4" is only about 30-35 pounds.. this one should be more in the range of 60# I hope

  • @Shannon_Lacey
    @Shannon_Lacey 11 років тому

    Dave, would using schedule 80 rather than the thinner schedule 40 increase the bow's strength, or is that too much and unnecessary?

  • @enochseyes3

    You wouldn't want to use a heat gun inside anyway.. the PVC can give off fumes that are unhealthy if inhaled. Doesn't seem to happen with the coals.. but I suppose it could.A dryer would never get the PVC hot enough to melt I don't think. Sorry it won't work for you right now.. but we appreciate your support

    No Bro.. we appreciate you.. and I might have been a little perturbed.. sorry.. I get a TON of spam daily.. and when something keeps going on it kind of bugs me (when it's a moot point to begin with). Sorry for being a little gruff.. Thanks for your continued support. Many Blessings & Stay Strong!

    We did it on our back porch.. I'm sure you could do it in your living room if you had a heat gun!

    LOL.. The 1 1/4" is about 100 pounds at 27" We are going to try to finish this one tomorrow.. The weather has finally broken.. so we should be able to get it up. We're hoping it will pull at about #60

    Hey man once again great video cant wait for part two. Hey also ive started my own survival school here in georgia. Check out the wiki i built on my channel an tell me what you think. Ps where are you guys located?

  • @enochseyes3

    Actually, no I don't have a heat gun...unfortunately. Best I could do at the moment is a very 'low watt' hair dryer. Anything else blows the circuit breaker. :) I'm in an apartment. LOL Soooo, I don't have real space to work, not to mention the authority to have an electrician come in to make any changes. :D I guess that's the breaks. But I love watching you and Doo creating. That in itself gives me hope that someday I'll have my own place, then come back in here and follow those instructions.

    Ummmm... Did you watch the video apoposy? I ALWAYS credit others.. and I DID credit BB and even told someone here how to find his channel. Look somewhere about when I was making the handhold on the video

    did u even credit backyard bowyer?

  • @BushcraftOnFire
    @BushcraftOnFire  11 років тому

    And for the record.. while I DID learn about PVC bows from him... and while I think he is the best at his trade.. He doesn't do his bows like this..so this is my technique.. I have never seen anyone else do it over coals or a fire anywhere (someone might have.. I have just never seen it.

  • @polishpicl

    I work with pvc too and you are missing one item...that is a spray bottle of moderate cool water. When you get your shape, you spray it with the water to harden it faster ,,,,,, it works like a champ

    • @tubefed420

      This can/ will weaken the plastics

    OMG, Laugh! I didn't think it was going to be that powerful. I thought you said in the video somewhere, that one of the bows that you made was only 35#, and that this one you were hoping for 50-60#? So I take it that the 1 1/4" was a little too much?!!! LOL! So if that is the case, what then is the "just right" recipe for that #50-60 range?

    Did you know that when you give a website address that you can skip all the h t t p and w w w crap and just say the website itself? None of that stuff has ever been necessary in a web address and sounds ridiculous.
