My wife has had a total knee replacement but I have read that if you have metal in your body (ie: in the knee replacement) that you shouldn’t use a TENS machine. Is this true or not?
Am so glad I saw this video am going to order one as soon as I have sufficient funds. It's ten months after a total knee replacement and am still experiencing pain and stiffness
I've been using this brand of TENS for years. In the past for lumbar back pain. And now that you no longer have to have an MD's prescription they are quite inexpensive. Post-op TKR and TENS was one of my first thoughts for PT!! Thanks for the tips on where to place the pads. I was getting ready to place them in all of the wrong spots!! since I've been using for years just a "tip". I take a cotton ball with a little alcohol and clean each spot/let dry before I place pads. And when done place them back on the clear piece of plastic they come on. It will extend the "sticky" life of the pads. Amazon now has the TENS 7000 digital unit for about $37.00.
Thank you! I'm 5 weeks out from a total knee and doing well except for nonstop pain while sleeping. I can't sleep more than 2-3 hours at a time. I hate taking meds but even with NSAIDs, icing, and oxy I get little relief. No one has suggested anything more, so I did my own homework. I have a Tens unit and I'm up and running. If this helps me sleep better tonight I will be forever grateful. :)
this is old but delta 8 THC cookies help my current knee pain, (canibis isnt legal here in florida without a prescriptions but delta 8 is made form hemp and there is no laws in place against it right now i havnt had any replacement since i'm only 41 they are not going to do it anyways, cuz they only last ten years so i'd need another one when i'm 51-ish
It’s been 18 mths since my knee replacement, which was done with a robot and Dr. and still I am in pain.. I’ve been using this tens unit just recently and it has helped a little.
Thank you for the video . Helped tremendously for placement of pads. Just purchased a TENS machine as old Knee looks like it needs replacement and I want to delay as long as possible and this might just alleviate some pain and strengthen muscles. I have some tendinitis pain on 4 year old newer knee which hopefully can be helped. Was uncertain about pad replacement and your video is so helpful. Thank you
The tens unit you are showing is one we purchased from amazon a year ago at less than 40.00 us.and is a real good unit .thank you for your videos Scott
I’ve had a tens unit for years and was thinking of using it but, was unsure if I should. I had a 4 week checkup last Thursday and got a prescription for something to help the swelling that has made movement extremely painful even after getting the staples removed. It’s getting a bit better but after overdoing it at physio as was directed, my whole leg, foot to hip swells painfully to the point that the knee feels like it’ll burst if I try to bend it. Ice machine didn’t help the swelling as much as I thought it would, so stopped using it last week. I find the muscles relax more at normal temperatures. I was allowed 8 physiotherapy sessions and happy it’s over. The things they had me do, I can and have done myself at home. I do more hands on than I got there so, I’m happy it’s over driving there for next to nothing. Useful video for those needing to learn pad placement.
Your only three weeks out. Don't worry about cleaning your teath right now by a dentist. You should wait 12 weeks which is the standard wait time. Should not do anything that may introduce infection at this point. I'd wait a minimum of 6 months . You can brush and floss bit not dental cleanings. Not worth the risk. Please listen and you will be okay.
You demonstrate switching the leads to get opposite pairs of electrodes working together, but you don't say why this might be a good idea. What is the reason? Also, you specifically mention the fact that you don't have to remove the pads to do this - so does that imply that in 1 session with the unit you are recommending switching the arrangement part way through to gain a particular benefit? Very helpful re placement of pads, by the way.
I’m at 4 months and flexion and extension is still tight, 8/88-90. I have a tens unit and didn’t know you could use it. So your video is a big help. Working my knee know. How long should you use it each time? Thanks in advanced.
Absolutely. Consult your physician of physical therapist. Google search contraindications for TENS but it is usually cardiac problem. Definitely do not use TENS if you have a pace maker.
i'm ony 41, but i recently have been having some very alarming issues with my knees and i been looking up this type of stuff because i'm terrified right now that i'm going to be a cripple, i thought i would have more time, i am not an athlete, or a stunt person, i never did anything crazy with my knees, i didnt jump out of trees, or wreck my bike or get run over by a car, i dont even feel like i'm old, but my knees just started hurting all the time recently over the last month its gotten worse and whatever that little bone in the front of the knee, the knee cap thing is, feels like it's getting stuck on something, i got a dr appointment on monday, but i'm on SSI, so i always get dr's who dont seem to care that much, ive lost 60 lbs in 2 months trying to make it so i dont hurt all the time, it's not helped much
I had TKR one year ago. I have good range of motion but I have a lot of pain while walking and after walking is even worse. X-ray & MRI are normal . Can I benefit from Tens for pain.
You posted this a week ago. How are you doing now? Pain and sleep should be improving by now. If not talk to your surgical team for recommendations and further assessment.
Does this help with the pain i am month now from partial knee replacement surgery on my left knee on October 21 2021. And my right knee was done in May 3 2021. And my right knee had be done again on July 29 2021. And the right knee is still swollen to. Does this help with swelling to? Can i buy this at Walmart?
I turn my intensity up to stinging nettle level. "Strong but comfortable" just as Tony says. The positioning he suggests is invaluable. If you don't end up yanking the wires, doing the exercises while hooked up to TENS is good. What do you think Tony?
You are absolutely right. I can't know what the pain feels like. The best I can offer is to share some experiences that have worked for others. I wish you the best.
You can alway choose NOT to watch a video or channel that you feel is not worth your time. I appreciate that he is giving advice based on his expertise as a PT which may be of help to others.
Well, there is a troll in every group! Sad! I've used a TENS device since day one, and am now 8 wks po right tkr and doing just great! Used it mainly as I would lie on my bed and doing all my 3x daily exercises, (leg extensions, thigh contractions, hamstring contractions, heel slides, leg raises, etc). I'm doing very well and looking forward to having my other knee done here in about another month and a half! Keep working it!

Thank you for your videos, have found them very helpful. 13 weeks post op TKR and physio 2/3 times a week, all going to schedule. What is your opinion on CPM machine?
You might have already found them, but I have a couple videos on the channel talking about CPM specifically. I think they can be helpful when used properly and when they don't get in the way of your daily activities.

I might have some videos of using a TENS during your time on the bike and other exercises. I will look around for it.
Three weeks postop and this is what I needed To help with the pain involved in rebuilding the quads/patella movement. Thank you

Is it true that after you have knee replacement that you have to use antibiotic each time you go to the dentist for anything?
I would like to know the answer to this question as well.
Yes. Absolutely! That includes cleaning as well.
@@BUBBLESPOGO For a cleaning I need to take antibiotics? I’m almost 3 weeks post up. Just wondering if I should just not go to the dentist.

Is it available in India..I doubt
is it not dangerous for the tkr since it has metal part? i have tense machine but im afraid to use is after a month and half of TKR.
As always, talk to your doctor if you have concerns. There are many resources available discussing the use of TENS after knee replacement.
Thank you!

Good advice from a therapist who never had a knee replacement. So easy to suggest. Try living with the pain we do day to day Tony.
