I know this was #1! Make sure you slow down as you pass through the planted areas. First-their beautiful! Second-it makes your eyes go wobbly! 😉 I’ve always been interested in history, esp. the Knights Templar. Nice that you included sooo much information! Thank you! 👍😁💚

Beautiful place! I made the Potato and Lettuce Soup (using baby spinach instead of lettuce). It was delicious. Not unlike a Pea and Ham Soup. It did not have quite the same depth, but it did not take nearly as much time and trouble to make either! Great recipe!

Thank you for the lovely tour of Mareiul-- beautiful! The pentagonal tower remnant is especially exciting. I am sure you are on top of an extremely ancient site, predating the Templers. Being on a rise and directly on the river, would have made the location appealing for ancient habitations. I knew the second I saw one of your videos, that you are on one of the oldest Chateau sites indeed. Haven't had a chance to look at the coordinate overheads yet, Lee, but soon will. Thank you!

Hello to you both, it’s great to see you, missing you all on DIY 😟. I have a conspiracy theory about your sky garden....that it was a tower and that it was destroyed by the powers that be (the church) and the stonework was used elsewhere in the chateau. This was done when Corfe Castle was destroyed and the locals used the stonework to build their own homes. You’ve probably come up with that thought already but just an idea. Love to you both from Bonnie Scotland. X

Looks to me more likely that the pentagonal structure was a bastion, a flat angled platform from which to control the approaches on the river by archers and/or cannons. the fact that its lower down the hill would make an odd placement for a keep of some sort as its less protected strategically. The approach from the river with its gate would suggest regular use of an approach via the water to the castle, does the river lead to any larger settlements? travel by water was far more efficient in "ye olden days". Alternatively it could mean there was a bridge nearby at some point, perhaps connecting to a local village approach?
The defensive need for a bastion would have stopped, and likely it fell into disrepair at some point. The different colour stone would suggest a repair later on, perhaps to make use of it as a garden or potager. I'd be very interested in the exploration of the donjon, I spotted many fragments of old chimneys, windows and door openings in the episode where you poored the floor.

I watched the latest vlog on the outside of the donjon, looking forward to the one in the inside with the fireplaces etc. Any plans to put a floor back in and make those fireplaces work again?

I don't think the low wall by the river was intended for defence from people, but was for defence from the river. The rivers can get quit swollen and torrential when there's a lot of rain, the low wall is perfectly placed to keep the storm height of the river from eroding away the bank. Love the gates!

I'm Scottish on my mother's side and I was born in the sound of Beau Bell's but spent my life here in the States. Took four years of French in high school and travelled to many places in my youth. Enjoying your beautiful chateau and love the history family and location. Maybe in my next life. ~k

Truly fascinating place you have, rich in history. Maybe the gate and shallow wall was to mark the parameters of the property?? It certainly is beautiful down there. Maybe the golden cockerel is hidden somewhere in the sky garden. Enjoyed watching tc and stay safe

The grave stones would be really interesting.. how many are there? are the 'occupants' still in the burial site or have they been relocated? Who are they? would be fascinating to find out about them

(Moira Ashton) A very interesting vlog !! Loved the tour around. I wondered if there had been an iron railing fence where the low walls are. But there would have been evidence on the wall, love your pets following you around,, Do you just do a vlog randomly, or on a regular day, as I have seen a few, but not noticed if they are regular each week, I have seen some of the inside of the Chateau, but would love to see more, thank you both! 💗💗🐶🐱🐱

Thanks Moira, so glad you like our little films, the pets do follow us everywhere, sometimes all of them (4 cats & Misty the dog), even on long dog walks! We're aiming to do a vlog once a week on a Sunday, but playing a bit of catch up at the moment. Hoping to show a bit more history and definitely more interiors soon!

Has a dig been done to see how far down those walls go and if there would be underground workings where the pentagon is situated. Knights Templar were known to have underground tunnels!

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about this remarkable location you call home. Have you determined that the structure under the Sky Garden is a solid mass foundation, or is there some question about the possibility of a room or rooms within? Thanks again, and greetings from western Canada!

I love this video. I sure would love to visit next year. The Sky Garden and the shape that was built by the Knights Templar. I wonder if it would be a vortex of energy or near the Ley Lines. Possibly a gateway. Anyway, it would be a powerful energy source. Very beautiful place you have. LOVE THIS!!! Your place is beautiful, and I sure would love to buy the chateau and be your neighbor.
