    NICE! First vid I ever saw making pie crust look EASY! It is! I make pies all the time. The more practice the better. I fold over my crust a few times too! Makes it FLAKIER!

    So im going put my shortening in the fridge from now on!! I usually keep xtra butter 🧈 in the freezer, I grate the butter like you would cheese!! Easy pease when frozen!!

    I've substituted unflavored coconut oil for the shortening, and I find no difference.. Bonus: coconut oil us healthier for you..

      ​@@TorqueMonsterAWD Yes, but it makes excellent pie crusts, and keeps it from getting too brown. She used only a little. I make mine the same way. Have for years.

      Why ch is wild because pie crust is literally the easiest and cheapest thing you can make from scratch and t cheese s 1000x better than store bought. Personally I do an all butter crust, I just prefer it to shortening - but either way it’s a major improvement over store bought.

    I started using Einkorn, an ancient wheat, for pie crust and other pastry doughs, its much lower in gluten than regular flour so you get a flakier crust.

    I made a coconut oil pie crust, it was flaky, buttery and no need to chill it! Highly recommend for those who want a dairy free option.

      2 cups flour
      2/3 coconut oil (scoop-able room temp)
      3-6 tablespoons ice water
      Put flour into a bowl, mix in coconut oil with pastry dough hand blender or use your fingers. Mix until crumbly. Add ice water a little bit at a time until the dough comes together. You can either put dough into fridge for later use or roll out dough immediately.

    I grate very cold butter into the flour and sometimes use cold soda water. Makes great pastry.

    I've been making crust forever and found that shortening made the best pie crust. I tired everything, even your recipe but nothing beat shortening. It doesn't really matter if the water is ice cold like when using butter and so imo, it's just a simpler recipe too. ☺

    Good idea ice cubes in chilled water. Do you ever brush your unbaked crust with egg yolk then bake a bit before filling your pie?

    Can you add sugar to the crust so the crust is sweeter? Or will this mess up the crust?
