I've just searched youtube and practically nothing comes up about this man William Mathewson except for this video...Sad really...what a stud of a man, what a legend!!
I live by his old trading post on cow creak crossing. I refer you to a book that can be found on ebay " the story of eary rice county". what that man done is beyond.
Absolutely love hearing a stories about the old west and its legendary figures . These men & women helped shape America . Its awesome to see their guns , that they used back in the day. It's amazing how guns have changed over time . It's also amazing how most of the legendary figures ordered their guns special made straight from the company . Watched Bat Mattersons video on his guns and how he special ordered them and noted every detail of what he wanted the gun to be . I find it all interesting.
Rotting in a box in the basement depot? Maybe, if we are lucky, sitting in some corner with a bunch of other generic "cowboy" stuff? Sadly, museums don't usually care about pieces like this one. Maybe it'd have a place in an arms museum, but an art museum would probably treat them as some tools for killing with silver all over it and some random dude's name. A private collector will probably take much better care of those two jewels.

I recently was fortunate to have recieved a gold plated colt centinneal 22lr never fired in a presentation case kansas model this is beautiful to not only look at but to hear the history. Luckily i hace the history of my colt.
If you could go back in time youd try to teach him how to squat when he pisxed . He would teach you how to dance to the music of his Colts and so would all the rest of the men of those days . Just be glad your mommy spoiled you in this day and age
Would bid on items in R.i.A. auctions, but I have my percentage limit set at a Firm 20% max. I know you have your costs and markup, just letting you know that I have mine too.
@@RockIslandAuctionCompanyProxibid shows R.I.A. regular premium as 21.5 %. Again, I and others ( a minority given the success of your company ) will not participate with a premium over 20%. More power to you with bidders willing to pay an ursery rate. Maybe it's due to your outfit being located in a state so hostile to gun ownership ? The overhead and anti-gun laws must be very oppressive.
@@jalan8171 That would be our 18.5% rate, plus Proxibid charges 3% so they can make some money. I recommend bidding directly with RIAC and saving yourself 3% right off the bat. Our website offers the same ability to place sealed bids or to bid via live stream.
@Retro_Afterglow True Americans are hard to come by in public schools (and a lot of Private schools as well)... My kids 15,14 can pick out the libtards in a hurry. Us Americans need to demand our schools teach individualism, honesty, and problem solving. Not teaching to a test, not making them watch CNN (which they do) and not trying to make everyone equal; we're not.
Was not uncommon at the time to carry multiple guns as reloading a black powder revolver is essentally reloading a muzzle loader 6 times in a row. Six guns on the other hand, probably a bit more than standard
@@wayde947 the hides were sent back east and turned into leather belts. The belts were used to drive the machinery of the Individual Age. Then later the bone was all collected up and turned into industrial fertilizer. And so go the way of the magnificent buffalo.

I think this feat was prior to the extermination phase of the plains tribes. I never thought much of the shooting from the train crowd though. I have more respect for the rich guys shooting exotics behind a fence, pretty common out here. I know this isnt the point. But has anyone ever seen an Indian with ANY facial hair before? Cant say they must have shaved back then. They didnt have metal razors or knives before earlier settlers arrive to the u.s.. I apologize. But the talk about "Long beard" had me thinking. Great documentary video though.
It don't grow much, a Kiowa leader wore a mustache. Maybe his name was Sitting Bear, either way they went all out and would pluck the hair as often as needed to be appropriate, eyebrows too. Even the mohawk look was from a plucking ceremony, one side at a time of course
Since this video appears to be getting a resurgence of attention. We should mentioned that this pair sold in September 2018 for $402,500.
that is all?
Did Ian from forgotten weapons buy them
I am truly surprised it hadn't fetched higher n that
I'd have figured 600K easy !
The narrator has a pleasant, easy listening tone and style. English well pronounced and easy on the ears.

That was the best story I've heard of ole bill or Buffalo Bill the original western hero. Well told young man well told in deed.
Beautiful presentation. What an amazing piece of history. Makes me feel proud to be an American.🇺🇸
Great history lesson. Applause.
Will never be mentioned as such in any school nowadays, would be presented in a much different light.
What an Awesome tale of a Legend! Beautiful pistols as well!
wonderful explanation of "Buffalo Bill" I never knew

Wowzers 😮😳😲 That’s Amazing Joel These Colts are Some Of the Finest I’ve ever Seen 😮😀😀😀😊
This is one of my favorites. Hell of story. Great job
In my honest opinion those two beautiful revolvers belong in a Art museum

I am from Australia and have only heard of the other Buffalo Bill, William Cody. I didn't know there was an original Buffalo Bill.
Miracles and America, I hope it's not over.
You guys still round and kickin'? Loving these videos.
Long bearded dangerous man, that about say's it all.

Great video!
Great story and beautiful guns
Coming up next: Alec Baldwin's Colt .45. Don't forget to check whether its loaded.
Damn good tale. Nailed the presentation too.
Amazing
What a story. What ever happened to the matches set of revolvers
May I ask what the sold for please. Such a great man. The US needs a man like this.

Well done👍👏
This is what a real hero is.
Are those 1860 colt navy's?
Leroy Hovatte, no such Colt. They are 1851. Note no step up on the cylinder. 1860s had that for the .44, the 1851 were .36.
@@normanbraslow7902 Yes there is an 1861 36.caliber colt navy research it.

How very Wimpy of you!
Well blow me... down.
This country was built on the backs of men like this.
January 29,1861 Kansas becomes a state . Not that long ago
Beautiful grips...I wonder who did the carving...Tiffany did the engraving. Better hide them...lost in a boating accident.
That William Mathewson was a pretty bad-faced guy, but the two Colt are nice
The grip of the revolvers made of ivory?
Dang those are pretty pistolas
Excellent
American heroism and imperialism had its day, but sadly to some, and gladly to most in this day and age, it is tarnished perhaps beyond repair.
That was pretty cool.
Damn that was awesome
Wow that is going to be expensive
I'm going to buy those I have a budget of $1,500
Nah, Earp was the 1 known for actually having stand offs
The guns are nice but would look better with just pearl handles these are a bit tacky in my opinion I love the shinny peal handles
Wow 😲😃👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
he armed with one Sharps rifle
and six colt army revolver......
wait what? six colt revolver?
thats sounds hell of a reloading time to take

The ol' "New York reload."

Nope. This pair sold for $402,500.
Anyone gonna tell him that they are called Bison not Buffalo?
Cool smoke wagons
Oh yeah he killed 80 buffalos in one day to "feed his fellow men". I'd suggest some reading about indian wars and the starvation strategies
Yep. Buffalo were slaughtered to starve the indians. Most were left to rot.
