  • George Gershwin wrote this song for a long-forgotten 196 Broadway musical caled "Oh, Kay!" He scored it as an up-tempo jazzy number. It was not until 1939 that singer Lee Willey slowed it down for her recording, and it has remained a ballad ever since, recorded by a vast assortment of artists, from Willy Nelson (probably the worst) to Linda Ronstadt with the Nelson Riddle orchestra (probably the best).
This arrangement is adapted from a big-band vocal score by the talented and prolific Dave Wolpe, whose name will be familiar to anyone who's ever played in a big band. It features trombone and horn solos.
Score and parts are available for a modest price at halleonard.com. Search on my name (Will Corbin) for the entire collection.
