Which place is the most difficult to fly drone? Any Comments
I feel it’s Croatia as it’s so hard to even get a approval.
@@OffbeatTravelVK I believe most of Europien countries are tricky! Talk about France 🇫🇷 complete Paris is no fly zone 🥺
@@OffbeatTravelVK just watched ur vid lol!
@@pamrathbun6649 thank you 😊🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I live in Greece and I can say that drone regulations are not enforced here. Many people actually approach you and watch you fly the drone. Of course you need to respect other people and for example make sure you don't fly over archaeological sites or near military installations. I've had cops sitting next to me while I was flying my drone and they didn't bother me.
Since I came from Germany I had to research and do everything by books in order to safely fly drone in Greece. I am really glad that you took the time to drop a comment here. Glad the video reached you!
How close can I fly to acropolis
@@calihawk82 The answer is it is legally only allowed when you get approval from the Archeological Ministry and pay the amount. Then they would provide more details about how close you can fly.
That's awesome...really helpful! We love Greece. Can't wait to start traveling again.
I am so glad that you find this helpful. I tried to document all the steps so that it helps any drone owners if they are travelling. And guess what Greece is opening it's tourism starting May 🙂
@@ChasingWhereabouts it's a great idea because every country is so different.
@@DOUGandNIKI yeah I have thinking of putting up one for the place where I live #Germany
Hi, you do a good job man. Liked your videos. :) Keep it up
I am so glad you loved it. I will be sharing the videos around Greece Starting this week looking forward to read your feedback. Cheers.
Wow, great info! I live in Athens and I am planning to buy a drone. This helped a lot, thank you!
I am really glad this was helpful, One thing to tell you is that now you have to get yourself registered with the new rule of Europe. But things would be easy.
Thanks, you are very helpful!
With these shots you should be given a permanent approval.. 🔥❤️
Thats kind to say this, Just barely scratching the surface! from the Greece video, Excited to show the stories from by trip :)
Waiting for it
@@slippinpraty thanks!! Brother I am excited
Superb video man. This is exactly what I’m planning to do in 2-4 weeks in Greece. Any idea for this same thing in Croatia ?
Hello I haven’t researched about Croatia yet! But it is in plan and i will be making that video very soon!
thanks for sharing great info.
Santorini is mostly yellow on the Drone Awere map, but my understanding is that it can be used below 50m?
Hi, No you can not use this in places like Fira and Oia these are mostly No fly Zone and you see that mentioned every corner in form of notice. The only place where you can is the Lighthouse, Red Sand Beach, White Sand Beach and early morning within 50m around the Black Sand Beach.
Very nice and clear instructions! I would like to ask if you know how to fly over historical area e.g. Parthenon :)
I would be visiting Greece in September
You can't for free! You will have to take approval from ministry which cost you around 500 €
To fly over Parthenon and historical places in Athens, should be a little bit tricky... but, over the islands is very easy, no one give a shi** if you are flying a drone or not. Just be careful around airport area and with the seagulls, THEY HATE the drones and they are very territorial. So, always be aware of the seagulls and try to avoid them...
wow amazing looks so amazing!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on this mate. 😊 There will be more of this in my upcoming video of Greece series.
Thanks for this man! Can you give me some more locations where you shot in Santorini as now I only feel the southern tip with the lighthouse is an available option?
Yes that is right only that location is possibly available at this point! You can also try someother places like at Black Sand beach I asked the restaurant owner if I can fly on his property and he said thats okay so then we shot at that location
Thank you and I see you flew it above Parthenon in Athens. Isn’t that a restricted area. Any idea how you did that ?
@@OffbeatTravelVK I just took some resusable footages from UA-cam!!
Need to visit Greece now
Hey thanks a tone for watching and commenting! :)
Hi, I'm heading to Greece in August with a drone that's under 250g, so as long as I keep within 50m I don't need approval? I'm heading to Zante(Kalamaki beach) and when I check the area on Drone Aware its within the Aerodrome Traffic Zone. Is it ok to fly as long as I stay under 120m?
Thanks
Hello if you are flying under 50m you don't need approval but for more than that you have to get approval and with proper time mentioned on the form!
Hi Sankalp, is insurance mandated to fly in Santorini or Mykonos? Also, have you encountered any seagulls there? 😉
It is recommended to have the insurance but there was no rule when I went there and visited this place. Yeah there are many birds flying here and there so I was just saving my small drone from them :P
Very informative video, keep it up !! I have a question, do I need to get approval or registration done for mini 3 pro which is a sub 250gm drone? TIA
Yes you have to get the registration done but not for the drone but for you as a drone operator only.
No you do not have to register a sub 250 drone
@@bobcloughjr does that mean I can just turn up in Rhodes with my sub 250g drone and start flying (obviously not in the no fly zones) just like I can in the UK? I’m registered here in the UK and have a flyers id and an operators id, It all seems a bit unnecessary giving them coordinates, dates you want to fly
@@cpeacock1973 you don’t need it if you are flying just in the radius of 50m. If you plan to fly more than that you have to do that as per the rule. But no one checked when I did that.
@@ChasingWhereabouts cheers, I hope I don’t sound like a complete twat on my posts on this matter, it just gets frustrating, I found out the other month you can’t take drones into Mexico full stop (as a tourist) I am going there in 4 weeks and can’t even take my mini 2, unless you just take it and hope they don’t check your luggage going in and coming out
Hello, i'm going to Greece in 20 days and I have a
There are cases where you can not do that, like archelogical zone and Acropolis and all, but it is okay to fly within 50m, best thing is to get the approval for full day in the some of the places where you are planning and you will get the better idea about that if you can fly or not. Happy Flying
Hi there! Cheers for this video, i can confirm that i got my 4 flight approval so far. And i got decision in less then uhm 4-5h! :) My question to You is that : as i never been to the Santorini Island so i choose the flight location a bit at random. Can you recommend some interesting spots to fly? Thx in advance!
Hello, For Santorini rest of the places are not in the flying circle ⭕️ so you have to check where you can fly! For getting approval these are the places for which you can get approval
White Sand Beach(accessible by boat)
Red Sand Beach
Akrotiri Light House (accessible by car)
@@ChasingWhereabouts Oh, i know that Santorini is from 2017 NO FLY ZONE but i got approval to fly in Oia (clifs/city) and Perrisa (beach), but was wandering can u recommend and specific points in the island that are like Drone must have views :)
That is so awesome, I did not got the approval to fly drone there so unfortunately I can not recommend anything from there.
Thank you for the video!
So you cannot fly within the yellow no matter what? They wont give you approval within the yellow?
Hello, thats what I assumed after reading so didn’t try taking approval in the yellow area! But you can at least try checking for getting the approval ! Also let me know if you request is getting approved’
@@ChasingWhereabouts Okay I will check. have you heard of anyone getting fined for flying in the yellow without approval?
@@HiFocusedCinematography hi if you are flying around the archeological site and you are caught then there is heavy fine on that! They do have a different mechanism for that when I checked they were giving approvAl for around 500€ to fly around Acropolis and that was being done by the ministry !
My permits to fly within yellow zones (Over Ancient Korinth site) got approved within 6 hours. I did however had to contact Ephorate of antiquities of prefecture of Korinthos for instructions and authorization. So if someone wants to fly in such zones, they can get permits. This HCAA working really fast compared to other countries.
@@Gpijus Hey! I’m traveling to Greece in august. How do I get my drone registered with them if you don’t mind me asking?
Hi, you mentioned in your video that you flew a drone in Santorini. What is the process of getting approval there? From what I can see on the DAGR map, the whole island is pretty much yellow. Thanks!
Hello, yes pretty much whole island is no fly zone! You can try getting approval on the lower end where there is white sand beach and red sand beach also Akrotiri light house. On those place you can fly without any issue. I got the approval by following the same process as mentioned in the video.
@@ChasingWhereabouts Thanks for the quick reply! One more question, on the authorization document it's mentioned you must visit the nearest Police Station to inform local authorities of your approved flight plan. Is this still required? Did the HCAA ask you to do this after granting approval?
@@psgabriel No it's not required actually! Once you get the approved document from them just keep it handy with you. If someone ask you can show them.
Just make sure that the timing on the approval is matching with the timing of the flight.
I also chekced with them about the same question 🙂
@@ChasingWhereabouts Lovely, thanks!

Hello, nice video. I just have one question. There is a possibility of me going to Greece this summer. Does the drone need to be registered to send the e-mail or it can not be registered, I just need to send an e-mail...? Because in the form it says UAS Registration Number. So, here, my question is does it need to be registered or I can leave that empty (UAS Registration Number). My drone is just 249g (Mavic Mini). Thank you...
hello, I had the same drone and it need not to be registered! Please leave that option as blank and send your email for approval!
@@ChasingWhereabouts Alright, thank you very much!
@@K0net0 you are welcome , thanks for stopping by and asking questions here. Wish you have a happy flight this summer ☺️
Hey friend, I want to ask you if HCAA checks their e-mail on Saturdays and Sundays or they only check on workdays?
@@K0net0 hello, I believe I sent out all the emails on weekdays only when I was taking approval
how long does it take to get approval? i'm travelling out tomorrow and not sure "where" ill be flying yet.
They should normally reply to you in a day or so it shouldn't take more. If you have not got the approval then check the place in the map if it is a flying zone and only file around 50m in radius and that should do the job.
So as long as o fly within 50
Meters and within a fly zone am ok with Authorization?
Yes that is right.
So, when I fly my drone within 50 meters, I don't need all of that right? Is this still valid?
That is right! can you also check about the registration of the drone! Normally in Europe you have to register your drone starting 2021!
Hello, i'm Italian and i want to fly my parrot anafi over Meteora next month.
I have a UAS certificate provided by Luxembourg and an insurance.
What is not clear to me is if i have to fill the form to fly in restricted areas (yellow) also if i fly under 50mt or in yellow areas i have to fill the form always?
Thanks
Hello Matias, For the yellow area I would say better fill the form and get the approval before flying. Normally if you are doing less than 50m area then it is free to fly. However with restricted areas this gets little complicated. So better be on the safer side.
Thank you for the response
So if my drone is less than 250grams i’ll be ok to fly without any approval as long as it no farther 50 meters?
Yes that is right! Just make sure you are flying in the zone where it is allowed by checking it on the same website which I mentioned in the video!
@@ChasingWhereabouts thanks so much for replying. But I guess the drone won’t take off if it’s in the restricted zone, am I right?
@@Trischao well yes you are right it won't! But that will be only taken into account for the places which DJI application mark it as restricted. But when there are local drone application of the country available then you have to check on their map as well if you want to fly while following all the rules! So I would say do check Drone Aware as well!
@@ChasingWhereabouts oh i see copy that. Thanks a lot bro for these infos.
@@Trischao you are welcome! Enjoy your trip!
Hey man, thanks for your video. So how can you plan ahead with the coordinates? For example. I will visit meteora. But how will I know the coordinates in advance? As they require the coordinates for every flight?
Hey Mike, You are welcome, If you check around this timing of the video 05:00, I showed a sample about fetching the co-ordinates for filling up the form. You can follow along to get that.
@@ChasingWhereabouts hey yes I saw that. But I’ve never been to meteora how will I know the coordinates I mark are suitable?? Lol.
@@mikesography7395actually coordinates is not exactly about the particular location! Basically find something around that place on google. And try searching the same on their map! See if you location is being covered in the polygon/ circle you are drawing once that is done. You copy paste the co-ordinated. Like in my case I wasn't sure where is the white sand beach in Santorini so I searched it on google found the location on the map and tried to draw the circle in the similar location on their drone aware map to copy the coordinates. Also one thing to note is if it is an allowed zone and you are only planning for 50 m flight then you don't need approval.
@@ChasingWhereabouts thanks so much. Very helpful. Last question :). So if I stay under 50meters I can literally take my drone in my suitcases through airport without an issue at all?
@@mikesography7395 yes I mean I didn't have any issue in carrying my drone there. I was carrying in Check-in backage! And I had nothing more to be worried about.
Does this even include for drones less than 250grams ?
Yes! It includes that! Also please check since this year starting all the drones are required to have UAS registration number as well! Please see if it is required in Greece!
@@ChasingWhereabouts Yes, UAS registration number is required. Despite of holding valid EU resident permit I am asked to update UAS registration number. I am not able to figure out how to obtain one. Could you pls. advise? Thanks in advance.
@@shilpaads8444 hello! For getting the UAS registration number you will have to register your drone in the country you live in. Residence Permit is a different thing! Let us suppose I am living in Germany then I will register my drone in Germany 🇩🇪 once I have done they will take some time to approve the request and then create a unique registration number for us! Which we need to attach /stick on our drone! This new rule has come from this year only 2021! Also if you have your drone more than 250gm then In most of the European countries you will need Pilot certificAte as well!
So..... what if you go on holiday for a week, you select almost all fly-zone area's and apply for the whole week? Would save you and authorities a lot of hassle
If you are thinking about flying in multiple zones above 100m then try filling out the form that way and do let me know if you were able to get the approval for full day. I did it mostly at the place where I wanted to fly. If you are already getting the co-ordinates of the all fly zone area do let me know it would be quiet helpful for my future visit.
@@ChasingWhereaboutsI watched a german guy about this topic, more recent video, he and commentators indeed talked about applying for a whole holiday at once for the whole island and would get approval without a problem. Also one even got a response (not sure what island) with advice that off season the airport was open for limited time a day and he could fly in that area when the airport was closed. So those are awesome things to read and I might consider asking about that when admitting a request.
@@yspegel this is pretty great information, because when I was applying it for Santorini it was straight away denied for the areas closer to the airport. But then again Santorini is pretty popular.
So no flying certificate or insurance is required?
For Mavic Mini-series yes, However, I still keep the Liability insurance with me when I am flying anywhere in Europe.
Hi. I have emailed hcaa several times and no reply. The form is in greek and the Uas section has an unknown link. I wanted to register my drone.
Hi Mick, That is kind of weird because when I sent the email I got a reply in a day. Are you sending the email to info.dagr@hcaa.gr ??
As far as I could check the application has to be sent to d2d@hcaa.gr and if you are not getting the email then also send to the info email id.
@@ChasingWhereabouts I had a reply today from the info one. Was told Greece are not registering anyone and to use any other eu country to get an ID.I chose Germany but says can take 2 weeks 🤦♂️
Update: took about a week to register with Germany.Cost was free for below 249grammes.€25 for drone licence above that.Took about a week. Rejected my drivers licence as ID but accepted my passport.I then forwarded my ID and info to hcaa.Tried registration in Ireland but would of been €30.
@@Mikes666 So finally you were able to get the drone registered right. I did the registration for Mavic Mini so that makes sense why it was free for me. I was planning on writing a post around this on my website chasingwhereabouts.com/ so hopefully I will include your experience there.
Hello! What is the minimum time in advance to request a permit? I am a Spanish pilot and I will go to Rhodes next week
Hello! If you know the place where you are flying and you want to fly more than 50m in circumference, get the approval right now based on the places you are exploring, you will get the response in 2 days or less. If you are missing to reach there on time where you want to fly on, you can instantly get the approval for a 50m circumference. I have the link of the form in the Description please check.
How enforcing are the authorities now? When i was last in GR in 2017, i didnt fly in Athens as our family home is in a populated area.. but on Patmos, Amorgos, and Evia, it seemed very, very laid back. Again, i was really only at beaches, away from people, over water, or directly above my family homes in those areas, where nobody seemed to care, not even police.
That being said, i dont intend on ignoring regulations but wondering if these measure apply to areas “off the beaten path”, so to speak
Hey John, When I went during my time, Just to be on the safer side I took the approval to fly at Kalamaki Beach in Athens and rest I flew drone in the Santorini and that to only at red sand beach, black sand beach, lighthouse. I had approval for white sand beach as well but unfortunately I wasn't able to reach there.
But then when I was flying the drone, even I felt that nobody seemed to care, not even police.
@@ChasingWhereabouts understood.. its prob best to take precaution, as will i. In the remote areas, i dont think i need to state the obvious :) happy flying!
@@JThemelis yeah ofcourse. Wishes for you. Have a lovely time ahead!

What a load of rubbish (not the video, the Greek rules to fly) if all the basic rules for flight (distance from people, no fly zones etc etc) in Greece are the same as the uk then why do we have to go through all that rigmarole, filling out forms and giving them coordinates for where you want to fly and on what day… also, if your drone is sub 250g and it falls under the subcategories A1-A3 low risk (EU is the same rules as UK) why can’t you just fire up your drone and fly as in the UK? I understand if it’s above 250g and falls into the A2 category, like the uk you should have to take a CofC test, but under 250g why do you have to obtain a license to fly? Just another ripoff, I wonder if anyone has just turned up with their drone and took it out to fly (observing the general drone laws (which are the same for UK and Europe) without registering
Well of course you can fly around the 50m radius if you don’t want to do the bullshit of picking the co-ordinates and getting the approval. I think you missed the part where I shared that it is only required when you need to fly more than 50m distance. But yes it is not recommended to fly anywhere with normal drone rules if you really care about the rules from the country.
And as a matter of fact drone operator registration is must in Europe now since December 2021. So the least you need is that and stick the registration id on drone. Even though you have less than 250gm. It should be the same for UK as well I believe.
@@ChasingWhereabouts that’s fair enough, so is there a registration site I can register via my phone?
@@ChasingWhereabouts the ones I’ve found send me to a page which is in Greek, I try and translate via Google translate and it says Greek is not in their languages 🤦🏻♂️
Hi Chris, Try this pdf and you would find all the information about that if you are flying more than 50m and I think you would need a laptop for the applciation because you have to pull up the co-ordinates. dagr.hcaa.gr/docs/HCAA%20UAS%20Regulation.pdf
And I read in other comment that you already have the drone operator registered in UK right? So I don't think you need another registration there. Until 2 months back the Greece authority were not accepting new operator registration and they requested people to do that either in Germany/ some place else.
But you will find more information about that in this document www.hcaa.gr/en/HCAA_UAS_FLT_request_editable.pdf
