There is a track on Big Generator called 'Running' that is madly progressive, it shocks me everytime I hear it..I think it was an album that got a mixed response. They had brought in a more mainstream audience with 90125 in 1983, and probably disappointed alot of the old fans, and then there was almost a three year gap before they finally released Big Generator. Pop listeners tend to have short memories, so by 1986, the whole YES demographic had shifted again. But all in all, it is a very good album and deserves more praise.

I'm Running is just fantastic. After Endless Dream it's the second most epic Trevor Rabin Yes song.

I didnt know Allen White died. Damn, it's been a couple years. Thanks for all the hard work Mr. White, if youre out there somewhere......... I cant even begin to describe how much better you helped the world to be with the music you and your associates gave us. Maybe ill ask you about if we run into each other somewhere, on the by and by. Rest in piece my friend.

Was in a Yes tribute band a dozen odd years ago called Parallels. Didn't do much but add vocals. But Alan sat in with us onstage once to do Cinema and Hold On. it was magical. A true salt-of-the-earth guy. I miss him.

IMO best track on the album, other notable tracks are: "Rhythm of love" , "Big Generator" & "Final eyes" , like "Endless dream" that came a few albums later, we have this beautiful synergy between Jon & Trevor, the atmosphere, their vocals & Trevor's guitar work are sublime & the band sounds great, a real gem from the Rabin era, cheers

Big Generator the song was one of the first “band songs” this lineup did. Built I believe from an ultra-low bass riff from Chris and Alan’s drums

You are so awesome. Everyone needs to be a fan of this band. Some people are just out of the loop and can't accept the diversity. Those who know this band have a very special relationship. Loyalty and spirituality are a common theme among yes fans. Keep the reactions coming.

First time I heard this song...I was blown away! Was an execution of bass pedal, synths and the most beloved voices to hear...10/10. We were alone we didn't need much more 🎶

This album came out in late 1987, I saw them in concert at end of March 1988, 2 weeks before I left for military basic training. When they performed "Shoot High, Aim Low", Jon stated he sings of stark realities of a world in turmoil, while Trevor sang of dreamy beauty of discovering a connected love and the two worlds so often are deeply intertwined for people coming of age. That hit me like ton of bricks...I cannot help but feel a deep emotional connection to this song written primarily by Mr. Alan White.

    I love your content.
The great English poet Phillip Larkin wrote a magical Poem about New Orleans Jazz "For Sydney Bechet" it has the wonderful line:
"On me your voice falls as they say love should
    Like an enormous yes..."

Man I've been waiting for you to react to this one for a long long time brother this was one of my favorites of their later stuff they have some great effects on the guitars I just love it the way they're playing along and it just cuts off for broccoli and then there's part Square it just fades in you know it's just so amazing their Artistry and the psychoacoustics and the way that it works on your feelings yeah man this is a good one I can't really explain it you just know it when you hear it you know

You know I love the way that guitar part fades in right at the end there and it's like it a different key from the song with just really adds to that thing that these groups that come up with all this heightened creativity it's like something otherworldly just snuck in there you know and just catches you off-guard it's like loading your brain into some sort of higher consciousness hearing something that's so unlikely that you've normally wouldn't hear when it comes to music and yet these guys well they pull it off don't they?

Glad you mentioned Vangelis, so let me make a request that I know you'll greatly enjoy, seeing how much you enjoy listening to long pieces and love Jon Anderson. 'Heaven and Hell' is a great album by Vangelis. It's just one big piece of music, side 1 and side 2, but Jon sings on the last part of side 1. All I can say is, get ready to enter the Heavenly Realm 🙂

"I'm Running" & "Rhythm of Love" are excellent tracks off Big Generator. I hope you also react to some music from the first two Yes albums. "Beyond and Before" is the first track off their self titled debut album in 1969. Would love to see your reaction to that earlier music.

  • @chrisstone-streetlightinte5629

A lot of people were not fans of Big Generator when it came out, mainly because it was a poppier record, but its one of my favorites by them. Trevor Rabin was just as good a guitar player as Steve Howe, but brought a completely different style.

YES, "AIM HIGH, SHOOT LOW". From the rich tradition that this group always brings forward. I fell into the magical journey starting with "ROUNDABOUT" In 1972 and never looked backed.
They're were special bands in the 60's, and 70'S. Along with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Traffic, Cream, Jethro Tull, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Steely Dan, C.S.N., The Who, Fleetwood Mac, and Yes should be recognized with the greatest music respect . For the 60 years I've been humbled by They're Professional Music Excellance. In other words they've made life worth living.

And Alan White was the drummer for John Lennon on some of Lennon's best songs, like Imagine, Alan helped Lennon arrange the order of the parts of the song. He also played for George Harrison on some stuff, and Joe Cocker in concert. Shoot High is a great song, the album isn't one of the better ones, but songs from it sounded great live.
