- SCRANTON, PA. and the Southside section of the city after Hurricane Diane. Film by Mr. Bill Kunda Sr. who lived there at the time. Most men who lived in this area of Scranton called "The Flats" were coal miners. Sadly, this once wonderful and close knit area disappeared by 1958 as flood projects to contain the Lackawanna River removed all of the homes and residents. Today the area consists of retail shops and shopping centers.
Eight years old at the time, lived in Dunmore Petersburg section…
I can still hear the wind from that night…
Thanks for the video 👍
I’m a Scranton resident my whole life and I was unaware of the devastation by Hurricane Diane until a few years ago. Thank you for posting this interesting video.
I'm going to go ahead and watch this about 40 more times. Thx for sharing.
People who live in NEPA forget the devastation brought by Hurricane Diane... All of NEPA was hit hard... Thank You for this....
Dave: I ran across your video when doing research on writing my memoirs. Thanks to you, your Uncle Bill and cousin Billy (as we called the second in line) for carefully saving these precious memories of our home town!
