    Cool presentation as usual! Reminds me of when I was a kid, there were a ton of these table top units that you used to just open up and play a record. No fuss, no muss. My first record player was an old Magnavox suitcase style (a really heavy suitcase) that was actually a TUBE amplifier unit. I wish I still had that as it would be a good restoration project.

    Great review! I'm always on the lookout for an old all in one, like from the 70's or 80's, I grew up with that sort of stuff and loved every minute of it. As for this one, glad to see it's at least decent. I have the Insignia tuentable and love it's features like auto shut off and a pretty good tonearm with anti skate. I switched the needle out to an elliptical one (LP) and it sounds great.

    To be honest, that mechanism looks like an upgraded 'large-platter' Skywin-type design. Notice how the tonearm, motor, and platter spindle are all built as a single assembly. They gave it a proper rotating spindle bearing instead of just the plastic sleeve type, a much better tone arm and cartridge, and of course the metal platter, but it almost looks like it could be swapped a Cruiser (aside from the size of the platter, that is).

    The little rubber pieces on the sides of the cover do more than cushion the cover when it’s lowered - they also provide an easy way to raise it. A fingertip on each of the rubber pieces with just a little pressure from the sides allows raising the cover quickly and simply, with no fingerprints on the plastic. That’s how I raise (and lower) the cover on my Crosley C3, and I’ve noticed the same rubber pieces on several other turntables like this one. (I’m just a little sad that my 1st-gen Andover Spindeck doesn’t have these.)

      FOLLOW UP. This was a bad purchase. Plays well for a day. Then, the stylus wabbles in the groove imparting a warbling effect to the records. Also, motor speed starts slowing down. Speakers sound great but the turntable is bad. Amazon had countless poor reviews describing this exact same failure. DO NOT BUY.

    I have known over the years, that they have different platters based on the integrity of the motor used. The lighter the platter the lower performance from the motor. The heavier the platter, has a better motor used. It can also depend upon the type of cartridges that you use some may need a higher counterweight adjustment, others lighter.

    wanted to just say just got this record player after watching this vid I thought you gave a real honest review you showed its good side and its not so good but they were minor like the balancing of tone arm you were right a little hard but I used some oil on the pivoting points were the gimble was and gave me more adjustments and got it balanced ,the platter is real thin compared to the other TT's and the record player also shuts off after no music for 3 minutes so it is not bad it sounds really good for the small speakers its full but not to treblely this cost me 88.00 plus shipping so I lucked out and it was not used new in box ,the regular price I saw so far was between 200 to 289 dollars and even 189.00 ,like I said there is one that crutchfields sells looks exactly like this almost but it costs close 1000.00 dollars it sounded really nice but not 1000.00 dollars nice if you look hard you csan find some of these new for ubder 200.00 or less you just got to look and be picky ,this is perfect for testing records i buy on line instead of turning main system on and waiting it ti properly warm up thanks for reviewing this TT JRo

    I would like to ask you a question about all in ones with cassette decks and CD players,I would like to know which all in one record player with a front cassette deck,CD player and radio with an cueing lever with auto stop would be good for high bass rap vinyl records that wont skip on those records and wont carve the crap out of the grooves and has a decent tracking force and premiujm stylus and cartridge

    • @Recordology
      @Recordology  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the question. Finding an all in one with a magnetic cartridge is the tricky part and the key to bass and minimal wear. This one would be good but no cassette. In terms of cassette, there is no good modern tape player (that I have thus far seen) and I would really recommend getting a vintage 90's tape deck by a big brand and then hooking it up to another system.

    finally there is somebody who will review this TTi have seen other vid for this TT reviewing it but they did not test out the sound of speakers for fear of copyright so why can't they use a record like you would that has no copy right ,duh! any hoo I am curious for this TT i like the way it looks ,I think it is cool looking ,there is another unit like this one I saw by another reviewer same set up everything the same but it looked more high end the tonearm was more robust no plastic from what i saw but it was close to if I remember 500.00 or higher close to a thousand but do not quote me but this guy played some music but not long enough I heard some bass but he went into some other features of unit like blue tooth reciever ,anyway ,the platter on this one i did not noticedwobble just that it was not cast right but other than that this unit sounds great I would buy it and I am glad you got to check this out finally somebody who gave this unit its proper review thanks again !!!! for another great vid JRo😄

  • @ScottGrammer
    @ScottGrammer Рік тому +16

    Regardless of labelling, it's not a turntable, it's a record player. A turntable does not include power amps or speakers. That said, it seems to be of above-average quality for an inexpensive record player, and it should not damage records like cheapo record players (Crosley, I'm looking at you here) can. It's a shame they made no effort to put antiskating on it, though. It's not complicated, and it would improve the sound and reduce record wear. Not a bad way to get into vinyl for a neophyte, assuming they have no stereo equipment at all. But for someone who already has an amp and speakers as part of another system, the money would be much better spent on a true turntable with a built-in preamp.

    • @xaenon
      @xaenon Рік тому +5

      Not that I disagree with you, but the line between 'record player' and 'turntable' seems to be more and more blurred in modern phonographs.
      It's true that a 'record player' has a built-in amp and speakers, but term also seemed to imply something more portable than a true turntable (indeed, portability was the REASON for built-in amp and speakers). Stuff like this does not seem like it's intended to be portable - at least, not to the degree that a true portable would be.
      A Crosley Cruiser is a perfect example of a 'record player' in every sense of the word, and an LP120 definitely would be a 'turntable'. This is something 'in between' and we don't seem to have a ready term for it.

  • @TBNTX
    @TBNTX Рік тому +6

    My opinion only, but I don't think that a quality turntable table ought to have built-in speakers. The speakers could lead to a resonance issue, which would impact the playback quality.

    • @paulrojina
      @paulrojina 11 днів тому

      What's a turntable table?

  • @kevinpatrickmacnutt
    @kevinpatrickmacnutt Рік тому

    Yeah I would have to agree on the $150 price point, maybe as high as $179.00 or $199.00. While a different mechanism, I would compare it to maybe the Electrohome Montrose or the Heyday quality wise. Certainly better than the somewhat limited Audio Technica AT-PL 60 which is $200+.
    It does have what I consider the basics of a good livable turntable such as a counterweight and a magnetic cart. Anti-skate would have been nice to have but not a deal breaker.
    The plastics only turn me off as those turntables tend to be a little on the resonant side, however with the right care one may get some good years out of it. As far as resonance goes, on a table like this my expectations lean more towards listenable and convenient rather than a device for critical listening. I would say that while I would not drop a ton of money into one of these, an economical, but amazing AT-95e cartridge may be a nice upgrade.

  • @chrislj2890
    @chrislj2890 Рік тому

    A decent looking unit with adequate performance for many people. But I wonder what more could be done with this concept. What if Audio-Technica gave it a try, integrating one of their existing turntables with speakers? Not the LP60 type since they are about the same as this thing, but maybe the LP3 that has a bit better build quality. But the price point might be high enough to where it wouldn't sell.
