    As always great information Robert thanks for sharing, next year I might use one of these spots, safe travels, and on another note your audio is much better and easier to hear , hopefully we will see you soon

      Thanks, Jarrod! These Ehrenberg spots are all on BLM land, but they are just hidden enough that they are easy to miss - unlike some of the Quartzsite spots that are more readily visible from the main roads. I thought it might be helpful to show folks around in Ehrenberg as I find it a nice option to Quartzsite when I am in this area.

      @@RobertWitham well when you head north if it's before June, come visit us we are just outside of grand junction, and have 5 acres for you to park after that we will finally become truly nomadic. Stay safe , happy, and warm

      Thank you. I was hoping this info would be helpful for anyone new to the area. There are good services (other than groceries) right in town and plenty of options for free BLM camping, but a lot of it is not readily apparent. Unless you know it is there or have a public lands map open it would be easy to drive right past.

      Thanks, Kurt! Ehrenberg is a pretty good spot for snowbirds or travelers passing through, but some of the services and free BLM camping are sort of "out of view" as you drive through along I-10. It would be easy to miss them if you did not know they were there. I was hoping this video would be helpful for anyone new to the area.

      Thanks, Val! I am trying to focus the content a little more tightly than in the past - partly so that viewers know what to expect on the channel and partly to satisfy the algorithm that is easily confused about recommending videos that deviate too much from a niche. LOL

      I was hoping this tour around Ehrenberg would be helpful. These BLM spots are all easy to access once you know where they are, but they are just hidden enough that they are easy to miss if you are not looking at a map and watching for BLM land. Ehrenberg also has pretty good services for nomads too other than groceries which are available just a few miles away in Blythe.

    Thanks for the video Robert. I'm about a year late watching it but I really enjoyed it. I spent every summer while I was growing up in Ehrenberg with my grandmother from about 1978 to 1985. She ran the El Rancho Peligro trailerpark on the north side of town going towards Parker but I'm not sure if its still there. Thanks for showing me around so much has changed.

    Thank you again for the travel log, Robert. I have made it to AZ, but not to the west side yet. I still have the cargo trailer but am living in a small trailer that I bought here. I want to get stuff fixed before actually driving it on the freeway. My roof was leaking at first and I had tarps on it. I was lucky enough to get that done by a nice man here at no cost. I had the furnace and hot water heater worked on but the water heater is still wanky. The trailer is set up nicely for me and my dogs. Very small but well appointed with a big refer and a stove with an oven. The bathroom is hug for the size so I can see myself living in it comfortably. I am at a RV park outside of Bisbee working the bumps out of this life and learning how to use my equipment. Thanks for the info on the area as I will get there someday. From the Doxie Squad and Humngbrds Haven Happy Travels!

      Welcome to Arizona, Gayle! There is some nice scenery down in the southeast corner of the state. Once you are ready to travel more there is a ton of free BLM camping in the western part of the state and a lot of National Forest camping along the Mogollan Rim from Williams east, including around Flagstaff and Cottonwood. There is something to be said for doing this incrementally like you are to work the kinks out before being out on the road full-time. Best wishes as you work on getting everything ready!

    I'm here now at the the end of October 2021 I used to camp on the state/county area by I-10 and there is nobody camping there, I'm not sure if there cracking down on the campers or is it still to early to see people camping there, so I'm camping on the BLM site which is crowded and not my cup of tea. Thanks for the informative video...Subscribed

    Good video, excellent tips. I actually find shopping in Quartzsite not to bad. If you are still in the Q, check out Coyote Fresh Foods. Newer management and has an excellent old fashion meat counter. Good as anything you'll find. I use Road Runner for fresher veggies and the Scratch and Dent food tent for canned goods and other supplies. Looking forward to getting back soon. Safe travels. 😎 --Mark

    Great vid! I always wondered who maintains the dirt roads in these remote places.

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      The first part of Ehrenberg-Cibola Road is maintained my the county, while further up (past where I turned around) it is maintained by BLM. I'm not sure about along the Colorado River. County maintenance *usually* means more frequent attention than BLM maintenance. It does vary a lot though with some roads seeing a grader a few times a year and others only once every few years!

    Thanx, Robert! BTW.....I'm worried about that windshield crack....😥

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      That windshield is on the list to have repaired before I head east sometime this summer! It's not really quite as bad in real life as it looked in the video because the camera was close to the windshield. I always hate to replace them too soon out west because I seem to end up a few chips or cracks each year anyway. Never had that problem out in the northeast.

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      I'm not sure why it is out west, but in Montana and Wyoming where I spend a lot of time these days it seems that the windshield is routinely hit by flying pebbles while driving. I do have glass coverage on this van, but the windshield was cracked already when I bought it so I will have to just pay for the first one. They are not too terribly expensive on these vans fortunately.

    I was there in December,the mall laundry closed it's dump station permanently. I don't know where you can empty your tanks?

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      That's a good question. I don't remember if the Flying J has a dump station. Pretty crazy there usually though. There are a few RV parks in Ehrenberg, but I don't know if they allow people to dump if they are not camping there.

    • @RobertWitham

      Ehrenberg can be a good spot in that area and it is often less crowded than Quartzsite. I haven't camped in Flagstaff in a few years now (not on purpose, but just the way it worked out) but I have heard that there are some recent closures there which may complicate things.

    Three years ago Bob Wells vlog stated there is no stay limit at Ehrenberg blm. Or the site is not monitored. Is this still true in 2020?

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      They have since cracked down in Ehrenberg. I think it was two winters ago when a number of BLM Rangers and sheriff's deputies showed up and made a bunch of people leave and issued permits to those that were not forced to leave immediately. I don't know how often they are monitoring these days, but they made clear during that raid that they would be enforcing camping limits again. I was not there at the time of the raid, but I have several friends who were and they reported to me what they had seen that day.

      I never saw it before around 2015 and it was looking "worse for wear" by that time! I usually go to the new 76 station on the other side of the highway these days. It's still often crowded, but usually less crowded and a whole lot cleaner than the Flying J.

    Cool videomy husband and I are rebuilding our camper trailer turning it into a boondocking trailer we have removed some parts like the heater the water heater the kitchen sink for bathroom sink excuse me and we are trying to find people that would like to trade or might need that stuff for their own build can you tell us who to contact thank you

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому +1

      I don't know for sure where you might be able to connect with others to sell/trade/donate those items. A few thoughts that I have include checking with Homes on Wheels Alliance (HOWA) as they do a lot of van/trailer builds now and might be able to use some of those items. I have also seen that sort of things listed on Craigslist or local Facebook groups too so that might be an option as well. Hope this helps and good luck with your remodeling project!

    Are there camp hosts at any of those sites? Or do you have to check in anywhere?

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 роки тому

      There are no camp hosts in Ehrenberg - at least so far. It is all on the honor system. The rangers did come through a couple of winters back and booted out a bunch of people they knew had been there too long - including issuing some citations. Once you move over closer to Quartzsite they do have camp hosts that issue permits during the winter months. Ehrenberg seems to be just far enough removed that they do not worry about it yet.
