Thank you Bob for explaining this to me. I lost my Bride of 48 years. I am going to be selling the sticks & bricks & becoming a full timer camper. Your videos are so helpful. Again thank you

So sorry for your loss. I did the same in my 40s after great loss of my husband and father. Then I came back to care for mother. Now I have more great losses, I am tricking my Grand Caravan and heading out at 67yrs old. It is a wide open world out there and much to see. Happy travels to you 🌹🇺🇸❤

Bob,I couldn't resist commenting here: you have the generosity to explain all this to us because so many people (myself included) don't know how it works 'out there' and at the end you feel the need to apologise for it somehow? You must have too many ungrateful followers who find a way to complain, no matter what you do. PLEASE ignore them and THANK YOU for your generosity xxx

I'm in my 30's but I've always been a free bird so van life is perfect for me and my future. I really appreciate all of your hard work making these videos and sharing them, thank you so much🧡 You don't know until you know, ya know?😆 I've been chronically poor despite my very best and above average efforts and I've been feeling the dream of traveling and having a home slipping away with every passing year... this has renewed my hope and drive that it's possible to live unanchored while still having my unchanging space with me at all times as I age. Thanks again and I always look forward to your videos!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I was just starting to search about this subject. Watched 2 vids and sorta learned a little but when i saw you did one I immediately started watching yours. I have seen several of your videaos before a couple of uears ago.
I am going to be homeless tomorrow and have been setting up my 2002 Rav4 to sleep in. I live playing my laptop games even though i am 64. So i need to figure out wi-fi. Thanks!
I am hoping you have a newer vid on this subject. Things must have advanced in 3
    years.

Great video as usual Bob. I just wanted to elaborate a little for folks that might still be confused about "line of site". There are only two ways to transmit data (that we know of) which is either over a wire (can be copper, fiber) or with radio frequency (wireless). The difficulty with wireless is that like any signal it gets weaker the further it goes, but it goes pretty far if you can actually see the tower your device is communicating with (if you have a clear line of sight to the tower): maybe 25-40 miles? "Device" is the phone or the other thing Bob showed to expand how much data he could use (MiFi). Exactly how far the devices can be apart and still communicate isn't super important, what's important is when you start putting things in between your device and the tower it's communicating with (like walls, trees, mountain ridges) then the distance they can effectively communicate degrades really really fast. So if you're in the mountains, expect service to be spotty. If you're in a flat area and near any major highway or town just maybe watch out for super dense forests or buildings that might be blocking the "line of sight" between your device and the tower.

Sprint / T Mobile has a few non profit programs that delivers unlimited 4G LTE for about $12 per month to those with incomes below twice the poverty rate. It’s not as fast as AT&T, but it’s pretty reliable within city and suburb limits. I’ve even got a good connection at Joshua Tree which is one of the most popular camping areas in Southern California. PCsforpeople is the most popular, but there are others.

Bob, I want to second the motion of Michele Paradis, I have been watching your videos for a few years now and never got around to going to your website and blog. I have missed so much. You sir, are one of the finest examples of a human being out there. You are very generous in your very nature and I can't imagine how many people you've helped. I bought a90 gmc van a few years ago and I'm just getting started on my build. You have been my inspiration and thanks to you, I won't be making many of the mistakes I would have. Thank you for all you do and now that I've been to your site and found your Amazon search bar, I'll be able to give a little back. Hope to see you one day out there, I'll be looking for you to thank you in person. I did a couple of tours in the Vietnam War, and I've had a bug to travel ever since. Finally getting around to it.

Hey Bob, I know this is a couple years old but the concept of the same thank you for posting it. Thank you for specifically explaining the different types of devices, including the big one and how they’re different I don’t think it’s too much information at all. I want more information on these types of things. I’ve often been confused on why do I need a hotspot device, a separate hotspot device if I have a hotspot on my cell phone so that’s one thing I’ve never been able to get answered. Now at least I understand about the modify and carrier aggregation. Thanks again.

Great info Bob! I want one of these Mofi units now, but just for clarity: The Mofi website says there is only 1 cellular radio in the unit so it can NOT spread data over 2 networks (att/verison) at the same time to increase speed. They say in near future that they will have model that holds 2 sim cards (so two networks to choose from) but they didnt say it would use both at the same time (which would require 2 cell radios and a lot more computing power. I highly doubt that will be possible with the new one). As for carrier aggregation, mofi says that it isnt a big deal since they recommend that you disable this and lock on to the fastest "carrier" (cell signal on whatever channel, from the company that you are using) where you are located. The link to amazon is for the "sim 7" model which doesnt even have carrier aggregation. Mofi recommends this model for most people unless you have special situations as listed on their webpage. Folks should go read that info on the Mofi site. If you have both verizon and att sims, you would have to swap them out in the current unit to switch service providers. I would not wait to buy the unit that holds 2 sim cards unless they had a firm date and price that was acceptable.

Thanks, Bob. That's the clearest explanation of all the different stuff to consider that I've heard so far. I knew about my phone's hot spot since my mom's place doesnt have wifi--I dont think the whole town of 400 people has any public places with wifi so the cell hot spot does the job. except you cant use the phone while online and it isnt quite good enough for using video to meet up, so I wondered about that. Thus I am tickled pink to learn about the Mofi thing and what will likely be endless future opportunities for new tech in this area. Thanks again, Bob.

Super good information!! All your information is great! Iʻm not living in my van or a traveling nomad, but always wish I could. Living on an island, you canʻt travel like the USA. One road around the island. Grew up living on a boat, lived most of my life either on a boat or on a beach. Which the ocean is our food, and we fish. I would love one day to experience the travel cross the USA, and have no destination!!

I agree. Some of the others talk over your head or around the edges & you don't know any more after watching then you did before.
