The difference between different pups isn't really that big, I couldn't tell which is which blindfolded. Still, Lindy Fralins sounded best to my ear of the passive bunch, great dynamics with a good low end. The Nordstrands seem to lack that low end punch for some reason. EMGs have more output than the others but anyways, they do sound punchy and dynamic. Thanks for doing this comparison
Very cool to see this comparison. The volume differences can be very deceiving though... If you keep your hand on your listening volume as you go through the first five - Dame Sanctus through Lindy Fralin, and adjust them to the same listening level, they all sound quite similar. I couldn't tell them apart in a blind test. Someone below mentioned that the Fralin's sounded the best of the passives - well, the Fralin's were among the loudest of the passives. Someone else mentioned that the Fenders sounded the worst - well, the Fender clips were the quietest. I've never been a fan of EMG, but they sound similar to the passives, but with a whole lot of added high frequency.
I like the bartolini and Nordstrand sets the most, after hearing each pickup separately. The Fenders were surprisingly pretty lame sounding. A bit too lifeless. I was really digging the two active pups too, so much pizazz.
The hum cancelling pickups lose a bit of the single coil sound, but so do some of the other actual single coils like the DP123! I guess I am listening for a bright plucky sound.
@@huss03 I have EMG JVs on a Hamer Cruise bass and always thought it was either the action or my sloppy playing. But now I can hear that it is the EMGs. That is, it's the EMGs amplifying my sloppy playing.
+Florian G. Ermmmm.... if all the jazz pickups would sound the same than why this comparisom test? you can also change the height noise from the amp or bass to make it sound more like the other pickups.
This is fantastic!!! thank you for doing this!!!
Από τα καλύτερα video για να ακούσουμε και να συγκρίνουμε μαγνήτες. Μπράβο.
Digging the Lindy's!👍

Well, the EMGs are definitely out.
Thank you so much!!!!
I thought the Fenders were least appealing. The others all sound pretty good.
Lindy Fralin

The dimarzio is also hum cancelling.
What barts pu do you use?
Why EMG's sound is very noisy from string clank? Tnat's no good for mix

Are Fender Originals Alnico II pickups?
Lindy Fralin, fattest tone amidst the passive bunch!
this bass is a American our Mexican?
the EMGs sound awful.
RaginRog no, they have a better dynamic range

+Florian G. Yes they do sound like jazz pickups. Anyway, you are free to judge on any criteria, judging is important, not the criteria.
But active... I think it's some different category.
Is it me or dimarzios sound like a p-bass? :D
american or mexican bass?
what model are those nordstrands?
nj4sv!
+bass basic I always thought the Seymour Duncan Quarterpounders had a high output, but they don't sound so powerful here. Any thoughts on that?
