Paradoxically, the Deck Building in StarCraft: The Board Game (an Ameritrash game) was less random as a mechanic than how it is used nowadays in modern Eurogames.
Dc deck build should be somewhere on this list. So many expansions. You can mix multiple different sets to create a new game every single time. Plus who wouldn’t want to play as Superman or Batman
That's it, I am getting it back. I had it some 10 years ago and played it a lot with my wife, but somehow Legendary took over. But the ease of DC is so nice. /Jānis G.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Undaunted. I want to say we had a conversation about it in the comments of a previous video and that is a wonderful deck builder.
Good to see Dominion on there, even though it's not a game I particularly enjoy. It is very much a 'pure' deckbuilder that must have influenced a huge number of other games. I do like innovative use of deckbuilding, and especially deckbuilding as a mechanism that fits seamlessly into the game / theme (more so than pure deckbuilding, which I find a bit bland). So I'll put in some good words for: Undaunted series - a very thematic use of deckbuilding that feels original, but taps into the balance of building up the deck, thinning it, clogging up an opponent's deck, or focusing on the actions the deck allows. This gives the game different layers, and absolutely demands paying attention to what your opponent does, rather than following a preferred strategy. Quest for El Dorado: The deckbuilding plays a 'supporting actor' role in the game, but I love the way it allows fans of the genre to indulge themselves with deck-thinning and other special (pink coloured) cards, whilst others can focus more on the straightforward green, yellow and blue cards, and indeed the race itself. Thus I find it very useful as a game I can play with those very experienced in deckbuilders and absolute novices, and either can win. I saw a game being playtested a week ago, that has a twist on deckbuilding that I've not seen before. I won't give the game / its uniqueness away, but it's great to see genuine innovation (albeit in a genre that I'm not especially interested)
Not a true deck builder but something very similar is Smash Up! You take 2 pre made decks of 20 cards from different factions, shuffle them together to form your deck then compete against each other to gain control of different areas to score points. Lots of combinations available, tonnes of fun putting together different factions to see how they work together. Just an all round great game! Would love to see you guys review this at some point.
I think my favorite deckbuilding game is the DC deckbuilding game. Not sure what my list would be, but I know that Millennium Blades, Thunderstone Quest and Lost Ruins of Arnak would be somewhere up there. Also love Warp's Edge as a bag builder. Love Quacks as well. Always heard good things of the Harry Potter deckbuilding game and wanted to try it.
Oh man. I used to play DC deckbuilding so much with my wife. I have to get that game again and play with my kids. And Warps Edge has been on my wishlist for ages. Good choices. /Jānis G.
This is only the 2nd video I’ve watched of yours and both mentioned Wonderland’s War…a game I’ve never heard of before! Will definitely be looking into it more. Just subscribed!
Quacks is a bit overrated in my honest opinion. Don't get my wrong, i do own it, and have played it 15+ times, but... i feel like it could be a smaller part of a more complex game, and it should thrive. But, like this, it feels empty-ish for me. Localized version of Wonderlands War is coming out this year, and you hyped me up for it even more! Clank! Legacy is definitely on my wishlist, but boy does it have a price tag... Great video as always guys! Keep it up!
In that case you should really enjoy Wonderlands War as it uses Quacks as a mechanisms in a much larger game! Let us know how you enjoy it when you get a chance to play it.
Luckily this video ended up on my recommended list, otherwise I wouldn’t have found your channel. Fantastic stuff, really enjoyed your video. I played Dune Imperium last night... So good. Another great video boys. This list is straight fire. Dune is my wife's favorite deck/bag, Quacks is my son's, Clank! is mine.
I agree with your top 2. Dune: Imperium is one of my favorite games. Clank Legacy is the best legacy I have played. I'm also looking forward to Legacy of Yu!
@@BoardGameHangover I guess it's a hand builder. You don't draw randomly from your set of cards, but you can add and remove cards which is the important part to me.

Just out starwars deckbuilding game. Played a few games and it feels like a solid , fun game. Easy to teach and learn and has some fun mechanics. Also my son who is not really into games is into starwars so wants to play every evening😂
Surprised to not even hear a mention of Lost Ruins of Arnak from y'all? Star Realms (and Shards of Infinity) should be on this list, but surprisingly I enjoy the GI Joe Deck Building game more than both of those. It is not often that you get to roll dice in a deck-building game, and I love that in GI Joe DBG. Also, Warp's Edge is an amazing bag-building game, one of my favorite solo games of all time.
@@FreeRangeDice I have shadow of the serpent and cold snap expansions. New alliances is on the way. They each add a different gameplay mechanics as well as different missions. The rule book is horrible but once you grasp things it’s really smooth. It’s highly thematic and good fun.

A few very good deck builders missing from your list or perhaps you don’t consider them that good, Marvel Champions, Imperium Classic/Legends, Undaunted series. I do think Star Realms is worth a place, as well as Dune Imperium.
