"That ball was 0.0000000000000000001 inches outside, ump! What the hell you trying to do to me????" Man alive. Stop standing there with the bat on your shoulders with two strikes. If it's relatively close you have to swing - hell man I learned that in Little League back in the 60s!!!! Players today, are they just looking for a reason to whine or maybe do they want to play ball? Because it sure looks like they're taking any excuse to whine about the strike zone instead of being offensive at the plate.

Ump was extremely biased for Nats in this game (0.92 run advantage per Umpire Scorecard, which is a lot more than it sounds). It’s easy to make a video just showing what clips you want to smh. Nats announcers were total clowns per usual too, acting like Hyde was complaining over nothing. Watch the game or go look at actual stats for the umpire.. this video is nonsense!

I mean, your video just shows that this umpire has a huge strike zone. So yeah, I'd be upset if I was O'Hearn too. The ump's garbage. Honestly more than 50% of the umpires in the MLB are absolute trash, but the Umpire's Union makes sure none of them lose their jobs.
We need to start being able to eject umpires when they're absolute dogshit at their job for the night. Why do they get to stay in the game when they screw up, but the player (Or a fan in the stands) can say one word, and get tossed? I honestly can't wait until umpires are out of the game, who cares about the human element, when you have humans like this as umpires. They get paid 300k/year to suck at their jobs. If only all of us were so lucky.

I worked games from the abhorrent LL system up through college softball and pretty much everything in between. I was even granted the privilege of working a Men's ASA National Championship Fastpitch tournament. My inside corner calls were that the ball had to cut the white and not the black. The outside corner could NEVER go further than two ball widths off the plate, but it could NEVER cut the chalk on the batter's box. The inside edge was uniformly consistent, but the outside corner was variable, depending on the age and level of competition of the teams.
I once called a 14u baseball game where one pitcher was just hammering both sides of the plate. I was my usual strict self on the inside edge and gave him about one ball width on the outside edge. I did the same for both teams. The winning pitcher won 2-0 and threw a perfect game. A week later I was assigned a game to the same league and this pitcher was on the bump again. He thought he would try to extend the outside edge and I denied him. He was removed in the third inning and his team lost the game. The only thing that hitters want from is to be as consistent as we can humanly be. Purists may not like us amateurs calling pitches off the plate, but at the younger levels it is necessary, to an extent, to get batters to get the damn bat off their shoulders.

Lol the Nats announcers are so lame. At the very end "good patience by Alex Tosi, letting Brandon Hyde have his moment" (after the ejection had already taken place). What patience? He threw him out right away? Do umpires usually pick coaches up and punt them into the dugout after an ejection? And the phrase "letting him have his moment" is pretty condescending and you almost never hear that from a broadcaster about an opposing team, even in that context.
Same announcer I think who last year after Davey Martinez was ejected in Seattle arguing a runners lane call at home plate - made a mocking "oh look at me, I can throw you out" voice which just feels so, so weird every time I listen to it. Like a kid mocking their parents when they're told to do something.

MLB donates the fines collected to charity. The fines should be much higher so that they are meaningful to the players. As for Hyde's ejection...still waiting for MLB to make it immediately ejection-able for a manager to come out on an umpire who has just ejected their player. Why does MLB sell us this drama? A better question might be...why do we "buy" this drama from MLB? Why are we as a society "entertained" by coaches and players arguing judgement even after they have been ejected? Why is this ok? These are the 76 best baseball umpires on...the...planet. They are not perfect but, just like players and coaches, they've worked hard to get there. They've worked hard to be one of 76. If it's a rule interpretation...fine, come out and discuss it like a civilized human being. Arguing judgement? Immediately ejection-able once its determined that's why you've left the dugout AND a mandatory suspension that escalates each time you're ejected.

In the NCAA any participant except for a head coach gets a one-game suspension for an unsportsmanlike conduct ejection (which includes arguing with an umpire). For a subsequent violation, the offender gets a three game suspension (except for a head coach).
