Crane Crushes House

- We were wiring up a continuous motion pool/hot-tub in Shoreview MN the home owner was over seeing all the work himself had the hole dug rented the crane operator etc.. We were onsite waiting for the pool to be set so we could bond the frame and what not, when things took a wrong turn.... I was filming with my phone and I heard the crane operator scream and I took off running toward the front of the house as soon as he started to yell I knew something went wrong. It sounded like thunder when the thing hit the house knocked out the chimney crushed the garage and busted up the house good. The operator was shaking in his boots scared the hell out of him not to mention things like this do not happen they have a load chart that prevents things like that.. needless to say he was on the phone with the owner of the company right away. Crazy Friday....
Coming from someone holding a 339-a license, this was 100% the operators fault. He should have known his working radius, scoped out the appropriate amount of boom
Being a crane operator myself, I will tell you there is no way that this is a computer error. The computer in a crane is for reference only, period. The radius should have been measured out and compared to the load chart. Clearly, this didn't Happen. The crane was overloaded and because of it, tipped over. I have worked for crane rental services. They have a reputation for sending out too small of a rig to do the job. One thing that I notice the crane is set up 15 feet further than necessary.
I told them that I thought it was a bad idea to fill the pool first then lift it into the back yard. They didn’t listen.
This one never gets old. I love how every machine in the world will tell you when it's had enough, you just have to listen
I sold this house as the listing agent in 2015; This video became part of the disclosure for the house!
I’d pay for the extended footage of the owners reaction…
You can hear the over load alarm going off the whole time 🤣
"watch the chimney"...
Being a person who played with legos until the age 75, I can assure you this was not a hot dog stand.
The houseowner is such a nice guy, all calm and his first thing to do is to see if the crane-guy is ok...
"GOD DAMMIT............................... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH" yeah that's probably the right reaction
"GODDAMMIT!!! aaaAAAARRGHHH!!"
That little scream at the end gives me the jollies xD
As a guy with absolutely zero experience and zero knowledge of how to operate a crane, I think this was clearly a mistake somewhere in the execution.
Truck driver: You know, were gonna have to charge you a little extra for the skylights
Maybe they should have drained the pool first :)
And he still hit the fucking chimney
He failed to keep the load as low as possible after clearing the garage: taglines weren't used, if he had lowered the pool to just clear the back fence, someone might have been crushed trying to guide the pool by hand. Need mats under outriggers to reduce ground bearing pressure so you don't break the driveway.
Load moment indicator must have been going crazy inside the cabin!
The brick and/or drywall dust cloud coming out of the garage is a nice effect.
I guess there is something to be said for pouring concrete for an in ground pool instead of the prefabbed versions.
