Yes, we had been playing for hours and were fairly evenly matched. This final fight went for 12 minutes and it wasn't until the last few minutes I thought, (or had the chance), to record it. Rifledude is an awesome skilled pilot, as you can see by his snap roll towards the end. I just got lucky in the end. Thanks for your comment.
The Se5 is doomed from the start Where's the epic dogfight? Slow death is what it's called.
Hi, it was the final moments of a 10 minute dogfight. By the time I started recording it at the end, yes, he was doomed.
Sopwith pup would have won that one.
@@robertsistrunk6631 not really. It's too slow to have some chances against skilled player on the fokker d7
Exactly. The only way for the SE5 would be to escape, turn, shoot and again escape. No dogfight.
@@YarMobile No, a well flown Se5 can turn fight
Couldn't help but feel bad for the other guy. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better to disengage someone that's badly hurt, however, I too get wrapped up in wanting to finish the enemy. Thoughts?
I hear you man. The only thing is that this map rewarded you on points for kills. As we were fighting over first and second place, I had to make sure it was a confirmed kill. He is a tough opponent.
Expanded Dicta Boelcke, Rule #6
Yes, there certainly was. The idea of a reflector sight originated in 1900 with Irish optical designer and telescope maker Sir Howard Grubb and used in limited capacity in WW1 on certain aircraft. The developers of Rise of Flight have made their aircraft as close as possible to the originals. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy my other ROF vids.
haha! nicely put together - I feel my death has been well immortalised! I'm sure we'll have another good fight soon although I might bring a camel this time :-D Well flown!
As they didn't have radio communication in those days, they relied on hand signals and flares. Depending what server you're playing on, the flares mean different things. Generally the red flare is to let the enemy know you're out of the fight. This is not necessarily accepted and the opponent may still shoot you down for the stats. The green flare in this instance was as a salute to a great opponent.
Thank you. Rifledude did some amazing maneuvers considering how damaged his aircraft was.
Oi,I bought pedals and a joystick, now i WILL play ze game.I am really into the flying sims, really.
Rob skiba
I love these types of games but never actually got to play Rise of Flight, downloading soon tho
Great video. The music reminds me of how many men on both sides payed the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Also, the sight on the DVII looks like a WWII fighter's sight. I didn't realize how advanced a fighter the DVII was. I've only got the demo version, but I'm happy with my beautiful custom skinned AlbatrosD.Va :D
Great battle sir. Very good maneuvers here from both oppenents, skillful and accurate. Good job.
Thank you Kris
Yeah, he certainly looks very skilled. At 0:40, I thought you'd gotten him (I've seen many a He 111 go like that in IL2: BoP). If I'd tried that, I'd have torn my wings off, like I did in my Fokker Dr. 1 video! I'm scared of diving now!
Thanks very much for your comments. There were huge advances in technology over the duration of WW1 considering man had only just started taking to the air in machines. I highly recommend getting the full version and keep in mind that ROF will be available on Steam soon.
Yes maybe, but Se5a is not as robust and may of fallen apart a lot earlier. Thanks for the comment!
Wow never seen a better fight than this....wow....amazing!
Let me guess ...the guy in the blue plane (the victor) is the one who put this video together. ...a very humble pilot. Thanx for the upload.
Dude,i watched this when i was 6....... im still watching it! I LOVE IT!!!
KrakenNationFTW great thank you!
KrakenNationFTW if your still watching this then you have bad internet
This is a perfect example of a great, educational dogfight
Hello, thanks for looking. The flare was in respect to rifledude for a great dog fight.
Thanks again. Did you see my vid of my dogfight against ROF Sarge? That was a bit of a twist ending there. Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Nice flying and show of respect at the end! I have been playing war thunder with a joystick and getting my arse kicked regularly. I last a bit longer when the connection speed is better, so not sure if it is all due to my lack of skill :-) This game looks great though and I like the realistic in cockpit view. Will give it a go after Christmas and will watch your vids for some skill tips
Yeah my connection speed in rural New Zealand sux as well, but if you persevere and get close to your target and lead your shots, you'll be ok. It can take longer to finally make the kill though. Hope you enjoy the other ROF vids I have. Look forward to seeing you in the skies of ROF soon!
Thanks again. I edited it to fit with the music. Have you seen my other video, "Rise of Flight - Incredible flying of a severely damaged Fokker DVIIF" ?
Glorious. It’s a shame one of you had to lose
Thanks for replying! The game sounds fun, can't wait to get it. I'm guessing trackIR is the best thing to use for this game. Thanks again, keep posting videos!
Thanks & I really Enjoy these Videos Keep Up the Good Work
Thomas Lietzau thanks Thomas
These are fantastic. I do not know much about fraps or other recording methods and I am wondering how you get all that great footage. I find that when I play I have to look behind me , up, down etc just to see if anyone is around. Does the recorder see what the pilot doesn't? I look foreward to another game!
Thanks for your comment and watching RJ
Hello, I'm not sure about Mac. Best to check riseofflight website. I used fraps to film my edited video using the in-game flight recorder, then edited it further in windows movie maker, although it struggled with the big files. Thanks for looking.
Not sure if its available on free versions, but there is an in-game recording function. You press record whenever you want to record a flight. You can then view later and edit the footage. Its amazing because its recorded the whole map, so later you can go anywhere and change camera angles. You then play it through and use FRAPs or similar to record. You end up with .AVI file you can then put into a video editing programme to cut and add music, titles, etc. Google 'Trackir 5' for looking around
I am surprised the SE5a didn't just out run the D.VII Their engines never quit and they rarely lose performance from an engine hit.
LoosMoose I know, the SE5 is probably the quickest plane in game...And one of the best, bit definatly is at a disadvantage against the D.VII in every way, except top speed
Such young Hearts put to Death by Politicians egos, what a SHAMEFUL thing
Yes, sadly very true.
Thanks Liam. Check out my other video, "Rise of Flight - Incredible flying of a severely damaged Fokker DVIIF" Real chivalry there from the enemy pilot ...
Yeah definitely. I loved the game so much I bought the ultra pack. Theres a huge sale on at the moment until 31st. This game is awesome. All you have to do is purchase what upgrade you want, and next time you start the game, its all installed automatically. Good luck, I hope you enjoy playing
Is Rise Of Flight free and on mac? And what screen recorder did you use?
Wow loved the vid dropped a like and a sub. Hope to see more!
Thank you. Hope you enjoy the other ones too :)
WOOOHHOO! BEST VIDEO EVER I HOPE YOU STILL MAKE A TON OF VIDS LIKE THAT!!!!
Whats the difference between the demo upgrade and the demo? Just the number of planes? Can i upgrade to a full version of rise of flight just by buying all the planes?
How the eff did you manage to not hit the ground?? Every time I follow an enemy that low the ground comes up and smacks me!! Well done!!!
+tootired76 Situational awareness and skill.
If you're going to buy the disc, then go for the Aces Edition. I have this, but if your internet service is fast, I would just download it for free from the ROF site, and if you like the game, upgrade it from there. Its a great game and you'll love it. Good luck.
He probably would because KiwiBandit has very slow broadband being based in New Zealand and Rifledude in the UK. Both pilots have excellent skills and a tough dogfight is always fun.
Nice Vid dude,
perhaps you might have escaped, when you used the good topspeed of the se5a.
Nice flying!
So, I see you're a pilot, how realistic is the flying in game? Pretty much identical to real life? Also what would you recommend for controls for this game? Thanks!
Hi. Its fairly realistic because this game is more aligned as a simulator rather than an arcade style game. It is a very immersive game and as close as you can get to the real thing as a PC game. Of course there isn't the feel G's as you execute tight turns or the wind or smell of oil and aviation fuel, but its pretty nice feeling from the comfort of your home to be able to take to the skies of Europe and enjoy yourself. I use Logitech G940 joystick and pedals, triple monitors and TrackIR5. This really adds to the immersiveness of the game. A good force feedback joystick and pedals are a great investment and can be found fairly cheap. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the game. Salute!
Also, just for your interest, you maybe interested in the coming this year, 777 Studios IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad! They are the makers of Rise of Flight
banditoo7
"or smell of oil and aviation fuel"
On a rotary engine, that might be a good thing....
Awesome! Another Kiwi RoF flyer!!!
Micah Trit thank you :)
Thank you.
Absolutely fantastic
I'd just wait to see Studio 777 (Rise of Flight) makers come up with for the new IL-2 version.
Thanks mate. I got Cliffs of Dover when it first came out and had a lot of problems and gave up on it. Might have to blow the dust off it and give it another go. Looking forward to the ROF teams go at the new IL2
You don't need programme to run Rise of Flight. Just download the free demo version. You can buy planes and maps as you get into it more.
Where is the entire fight from both perspectives ? Pretty please ?!!
Hi ya. Thanks for watching. There's hours of editing involved so may not redo it again. Nice idea though.
What are the flares for in-game and what did you use it for here?
the water would almost be perfect if not for the ridiculous reflection of clouds - if they just removed that it would be excellent
when you get the free version so you only have like 2 planes are you still able to play online?
Looks like fun. I wish I had the time to play, and the money for track-IR.
Hope you get the opportunity to play sometime! Thanks for watching.
banditoo7
So do I. I'm definitely going to give Rise Of Flight a try some time soon. I've been playing and loving flight-sims for 15 years now, and I still feel like I'm only just beyond the noob-stage. The tactics and manoeuvres have always fascinated me. It's like a graceful dance of death. Just something poetic about that unlikely combination. Sadly games are being dumbed down at a frighting rate these last few years. IL2-1946 was my all time favorite sim, but it's showing its age now and won't run properly on my new rig. Cliffs of Dover was a horrible miscarriage, imho. War Thunder is fun in a way, but I hate that freemium scam they have going on, and the joystick support is horrible.
I understand Rise Of Flight also has a 'freemium type' system, but at least it doesn't seem to have one of those horrible exp based upgrade systems.
So, looking forward to meeting you in the skies sometime.
Happy hunting!
Evildeathmonkey You'll be pleased to know the same guys that do ROF are working on IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad. If you look up 777studios they have a big sale on with 60% off both games at the moment. Not sure how long sale on for. RoF can be played for free, but you're limited to what you can fly, but its gives a pretty generous choice in aircraft.
banditoo7
The game is pretty good. The Spad 13c1 feels terribly cumbersome and visibility is abysmal.. The albatros D.va on the other hand is pretty nice aircraft once I trimmed it out a bit. Guess that means I'll be joining the German Reich then.
El Spidro
I think I'll save up for a bit and go for the ultra-package. It seems a better deal since it includes all the aircraft, and I don't mind paying a fair price for the full game. Also, as a Dutchman, the Fokker aircraft give me an odd sense of chauvinism. It's not often that we get to feel that way, you know. Flying around in a French or British plane just doesn't feel right.. ;)
How do you get that level of maneuverability out of an SE5 ? i find that its turning speed is rough. are there any ideas anyone would recommend ? i normally fly a DR1 or a Albatross DVa
When it comes to tight maneuvers I usually lower my throttle untill I have turned tight enough and have leveled in such a way as to avoid a stall, then full throttle again, hope that helps.
the song made it touching for me
Great music, great video!Mannock,McCudden and Ball still rule!
Thank you. You have great flying skills and I wish I had started recording earlier. Will look forward to our next meeting. S!
I would have landed on the road and hitch hiked home...
wish more Aussies would play this game... I would definitely play online if we had a local server. :(
What is the green flare used for?
Even with the team fusion patches it still has shimmering graphics issues and other misc issues. I love the game but can't get into it all the time due to problems. Team Fusion is working on making more patches to help fix stuff.
how do i download rise of flight do i need any programs
What kind of Joystick would you recommend for ROF I have a wingman but its not right it seems
+Rachelle Brooke For something affordable, I would recommend a Thrustmaster, but if you want high-end quality for a big price, get a Thrustmaster Warthog.
Logitec 3D Pro - very cheap, very good.
EPIC!
Hey how do you share with Facebook ? I really Like this Game and Videos
Thomas Lietzau thanks for watching. Click on the arrow for share options. Either copy to clipboard or share directly to Facebook if you're logged in.
good flying, great battle
Thank you :)
You should do a ridiculous battle like you did with the Handely page , except do it with the Felix or the RE8 haha
FOKKER D-VII The Dragon Airplane.
Thank you
I wonder why S.E. 5a didn't simply try to run away. It's about 40 kph faster than Fokker D.7
Probably too damaged to run away at that point.
Cyril Labega Yes, he was pretty badly shot up. I scored a good hit to his engine during the original dog fight and he couldn't get away. He did very well to stay up as long as he did though.
Awesome dogfight
Thank you!
That flare, LOL
nice dog fight. really enjoyed it.
What was that flare in the end? A show of respect?
Hi Zach, yes it was. You might like the video on my channel against ROF Sarge too. Thanks for watching.
I think it could be also to point out the enemy's pilot position to ground forces lol, respect makes you caught down :)
Lemard77 Yes for sure. The pilot can then be advised where the aircraft is so he can cut a patch out of it for confirmation of a kill. In this case however, it was just a sign of respect to the opponent.

Remember, a lot of Pilots during the Great Air war (WWI) were called the knights of the air. They had an admirable respect for each other no matter what side of the war you were on, and I'm fairly sure that the people who go out of their way to play this game are of the same cast. Respect the honor paid to your opponent and great maneuvering on both sides. Well fought, sir.
How do you take record of flight off ROF to my computer I have a great seen
+Rachelle Brooke Hello, theres a setting within the game so you can record and then edit your footage. I edit in game, then use a programme like FRAPs or Dxtory. Final edit with Sony Vegas or Adobe premiere
Did they have gunsight like in WWI?...Did they have white spots in the FOV to tell them where the enemy was?
The earliest record of the reflector sight, (optical collimator), being used with fighter aircraft was in 1918. The optical firm of Optische Anstalt Oigee of Berlin. You can have the white / red arrows showing you where the enemy is depending on what multiplayer server you're on. This one was full realism, so no flight aids available. Thanks for watching :)
Thank you. Check out my video ROF Sarge vs KiwiBandit on my channel. You'll enjoy that one. Thanks for watching.
Is this same game as Rise of Glory?
WoW! Outstanding action, tactics, and video editing as well! I have not yet even come close to getting ROF going the way I would like. Just as I started to get a foot-hold on how to operate the various controller config options and setup of the aircraft, I had to upgrade my system and that meant a full o/s install and much more.
Then I just never re-installed ROF and this was all about 8 months ago. My system can handle ROF at its best resolution now, no doubt about it, but I need to figure out what the latest version is and the best way to install it.
have 5 internal Drives of which two are SSD's. The O/S is on one 500GB SSD, and the other SSD is a 250GB but is about 75 or 85% filled. I know ROF needs to be on the O/S drive but I'll be installing it on one of my 3, 1TB HDDs and then I'll use Steam Mover to move ROF to the O/S drive and back as needed.
I'd better get started while I have the momentum to do so.
I presently have the ICE_1021b version but I need to confirm that this is the latest. I doubt it is because it was downloaded in 2012. OK, how's that for getting off topic? LOL
Great video and story telling effects!
Hi Rich, install ROF onto your system and run it. You'll get a settings box come up and on the bottom left, you'll see the Update button next to the Start button. Just go ahead and update. (It will probably be a very big update) Best of luck and enjoy!
banditoo7 Thank you! Yes, I'm slowly remembering what to do and that was my biggest concern. I was researching all night last night to get info on everything I've forgotten. You've just confirmed what I read in a off-topic post that loosely touched on this point. Thanks again,
Rich
Man, what a ending for a great scrap, eh?
Since when did WWI fighters use reflector gun sights? Cripes a'mighty!
They were invented around 1900. Used in WW1 in a few aircraft, but not widely used until WW2 because of the expense.
I have hope for VR
It would be incredible with VR
Yep, they can take a bit of punishment as long as nothing vital hit.
Can you tell me , I am using a mouse I have a stick I can try to hook up is there a big difference With a mouse I can not do a roll
+Rachelle Brooke You really need to use a stick in this game to get the most enjoyment out of it. I the Logitech G940 which is a throttle, stick and rudder pedals. Also invested in the TrackiR 5.
+banditoo7 i use a xbox controller and a mouse, best combination i can recomend for real
+Nazistazia the German Princess yes that would be a good option on a budget. Thank you.
+banditoo7 On a budget the best I'd say would be a Logitech 3d Pro. It's a standard cheapo stick with a twister axis for the rudder controls and a throttle. Even cheaper than a gamepad tbh. Retails for $40 but if you look around enough and wait for sales you can grab it for $15-20.
Sneaky Hun!
What's with the green flare at the end?
I think it's to mark the downed plane so someone can rescue the pilot. WW1 pilots had a lot of respect for each-other, generally speaking, and even if they didn't, they hoped that by showing courtesy to enemy pilots, they'd receive the same courtesy in return.
No, they were for signaling, and torching your plane if you crashed behind enemy lines.
I did.I also subscribed.
Nicely done ....
Charles Nungesser couldn't fly one of these planes on total player assist god mode.
The pilot that got lost over the Atlantic?
JohnQPublic11 Don't give up yet. It took me a month to get my first kill and that was with poor internet connection too. Try stay off servers like Flying Circus for a while, other wise you end up as cannon fodder which get VERY frustrating. Its a great game once you get the hang of it.
Hi there, I can't seem to get my guns working.
Anything I do wrong? Neither space nor Joystick 0 buttom works.
Besides that where can I buy a license key for the game? I Cannot seem to find a place on riseofflight.com/en.
Best regards....
You'll have to assign the button to the joystick to make it work. What's the default key for the guns? You have to charge the guns first by using the 'reload' key. To get the full game, go to that site, click on 'Store' then 'Demo Upgrades' PM me if you're stuck. Happy to help.
Just curious. Is this a computer game?
Hi Cameron, yes it is. Its called Rise of Flight by 777 Studios. Its a WW1 flight simulator. Thanks for watching. Hope you enjoy my other ROF videos.
Oh yes! I really did enjoy this video. It was epic!
Cameron Kincaid Check out the video on my channel titled "Rise of Flight - Highlights of epic 8 minute dogfight" You'll like that one. Merry Christmas!
banditoo7 Hey I will. I look forward to watching. You have a Merry Christmas also!
great dogfight
A reflector sight in WW1!!!
SE seems pretty rugged
Ha ha, yeah. He did very well considering the damage. His snap roll at 1:28 was awesome. Classic move to try and make me over shoot him, but I anticipated it and kicked in the right rudder so I could get some shots into the side of him.
Also I agree Tony Duffy, that wat I mean
That was murder...
Nice fight..and sad end.
Thanks for watching and the sub.
In reality, fighter pilots from the first considered their mission to eliminate machines, not men. It is a psychological reality that persists to even the current day. :) I enjoyed the vid, and as I am only just beginning RoF, they are very helpful. Thank you.
Bud Fields
Nice! Classy fight
Phist Thanks mate
What is the green flare for?
Hello, it was a show of respect to the other pilot. Thanks for watching :)
banditoo7 did pilots actually do that?
***** Yes, they used flares for various communication between pilots as they did not have radios.
it was for verification of the downed aircraft and its location ...
Tony Duffy, Ring Finder, Games and More in 1915 the German started to use one way radios though.
How to extract the flare gun?
fenice319 Did you find the flare gun key?
banditoo7 you can change it in controls
ALEX 2n8n i think to mark position of artillery guns, airfield and other stuff
+fenice319 In this case it is to mark the crash site, for evaluation and extraction of the perhaps live pilot.
