It was recently revealed via interview during episode 476 of "Bertcast" that actor and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco will be playing a role in the Super Mario Bros. animated movie, specifically "Spike" who he describes as "their [the brothers] boss". Some people will probably immediately think of the little green enemies, but given the context of this description and the history of Mario, it sounds like he's going to play Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew. That's... a surprisingly deep cut for the Mario movie to make, considering how obscure Wrecking Crew is nowadays. Hopefully this means Foreman Spike will be in more things (and that he'll have a beard and doesn't look like he did in Wrecking Crew '98, which is basically just a buff Waluigi).
I had a comic I made like in college that had Spike in it… it also had Harry, Kate, and Stanley the Bugman in it chilling with Tapper. I just… wow, feels nice to be validated as a Nintendrone.
The specifics about how to make the golden hammer appear were so obscure that I'm surprised anyone ever figured it out, but yeah, the info is out there now, if you look hard enough for it. Has to do with the number of your current level and how many times you've swung the hammer since the start of said level. That explains (finally) to my child self why the level 6 method that most people know about would occasionally give Santa Claus or whatever, instead of the hammer.
I use the golden hammer theme as my sound on my phone for my morning alarm. Thankfully eggplant men don't chase me at work, although it feels that way sometimes.
Look man, you're making me look bad when I played this game. I loved it. But ,I never figured out where the MARIO letters were. I was just happy to pass the level. Nuts how people find all these out
Yeah! I remember I was so shit at this game so I just made my own maps where I messed with bombs and those creatures and trapping them with the yellow guy. 7 year old me had so much fun
This is my favorite game even tho I have Fortnite and Roblox as my 2nd and 3rd favorite, and I’m 14 years old now and I play this lots. I’m only at level 12 so far.
If Gyromite and Mario Bros. had a child, this is indeed "WRECKING CREW". 💪😎✌️ That funky bass drum tells you everything. Even the game engine is obviously the same as Gyromite's.
Probably because video games were something incredibly special for everyone. Video games are still here, but the magic isn't the same. Simple times. No matter how long it has been, the games will always wait for the player. That's what I think makes it bittersweet.
This game was pretty fun. Could get quite headscratching at times too. Nintendo should remake it, even as a small side game since Spike is going to be in the new Mario movie.
nintendo made a remake on the snes called "wrecking crew 98", but it was only sold in japan because they already discontinued the console in america at that point
The brain is a marvelous thing. I've had, for the past 30 years, a nes ditty that sometimes came into my head. I had long ago (likw probably 25 years) forgot what game it was from. Nothing i'd ever owned for sure. 5 minutes ago i resolved to find what it was from. Somehow when thinking of NEs games Wrecking Crew came almost right away in my mind, but not because i thought the tune would be from this game, i rented it maybe twice in the late 80's after all, why would i remember any tune from it? so i figured because I was thinking of early games that this one had popped up randomly. So first I tried Balloon Fight. No. Gyromite. No. Duck Hunt. No. Alright let's look at Wrecking Crew though. Well shit..... It seems like i normally should have been searching for that ditty for hours. And yet here it is. My brain knew somehow instinctively without me not consciously recalling it The only thing is my memory was a bit flawed and i'd mixed the first part of the tune when you start a level with the tune when you finish one.
If you timed the fireball correctly, it could go over you. If you have the golden hammer, it's possible to hit an enemy coming towards you from the right but the timing is difficult.
I theoretically say that this game chronologically comes just before the Donkey Kong events aside I say that Mario is in Brooklyn trying different jobs before becoming a plumber and rediscovering the mushroom kingdom where he lived his childhood with yoshi. 🤔
When I was a kid, I bugged the game by doing something with the cartridge. I don't remember what, but it probably caused some memory errors and game loaded in weird state, where there were holes on the floor. When You fell from it, You fell from the up at the same position, i.e. if You fell from first tile to the left, You fell in the first tile to the left but at the top of the stage. You were invisible and invulnerable to damage. If You repeated the fall, You were visible and vulnerable again. Also I bugged Super Mario Bros. too. People say, You can't go to the 9-x level, right? I could. By doing probably similar thing. Unfortunatelly I have no idea what exactly caused those memory errors. But this was just amazing thing to do as a kid xD I was breaking the game just when I started playing games xD (or not exactly when I started, cause I had Amiga before NES).
I miss playing this, it took me hours just to figure out how I got the Golden hammer, and only find 3 patterns on three maps. now, I don't even have the patience to finish 2 levels.
Lembro desse jogo no Gunboy, o famiclone que eu pude ter. Nem mesmo o Megajoy tinha esse jogo maravilhoso. Gostava de construir minhas próprias fases no modo de edição.
Can someone explain me the pattern behing "MARIO" letters and/or for super hammer and this statue? What You have to do to get it? Is it some kind of sorcerer's algorithm? Or can You actually predict how to get it? I know for sure it's not random, cause specific stage has exactly one pattern, but how to find it to get those? Do You just have to know where it is, remembering the order of destroying bricks? Or what?

I had a comic I made like in college that had Spike in it… it also had Harry, Kate, and Stanley the Bugman in it chilling with Tapper.
