I think they are better than the plastic. I feel that they do not flex as much as the plastic ones and the gaskets seem to fit better in them causing them to seal better as well.
Hello - do you have tips on how to remove the oil pan (after jacking up the engine)] I took out the oil pan (like literally right now) but i can't get it out and no more clearnnce for me to raise the engine lol. I may just do it with the oil pan just dangling in the subframe/engine area.
Hey! I know this is a little older video but hopefully you can answer soon… I’m trying to do the same job as you right now but I can’t seem to get the aluminum pan in. It keeps getting stuck at the oil pump chain guide and won’t go any further past because that and the transmission. Thanks in advance!
See if you can lift the engine a little higher to gain more room. If I remember correctly I had to almost keep it level to clear the chain then I could tilt it to clear the transmission.
Yeah, that means nothing to BMW. I think they make it harder on the 4 cylinders just because they can. Also, if it has x drive, better add another 3 hours of labor to everything too.
Would you say this aftermarket aluminum pan is better quality than the stock plastic one? $650 for a plastic pan is insane

It’s really impressive! I have the same car 2015 BMW 528i and have the same problem of oil pan gasket leak. Where did you buy the oil pan bolt set?
They actually came with the pan. It was a good quality oil pan as well.
That’s better. Where did you buy the oil pan with the bolts? Do they have torque spec?
@tangsiwei1 I actually bought it from oreilly but I think I put a link in the description on Amazon as well
@tangsiwei1 the torque source are the same. I believe they were 10 nM
Thanks a lot!
So when changing the oil pan do i need to get a new oil level sensor seal for the aluminum pan?
You can use the original one if you want to. But now is a good time to get a new one if you wanted. I would get a new gasket at the very least

If you are just doing the gasket then I would do it that way if possible. I was able to lift mine just enough to get the entire pan out.

Just to double check - did you have to remove both engine mount or just the one on the left/driver side of the car?
I removed both of the mounts so I could lift it up enough to clear without removing the subframe.
@@operationoverhaul thank you!
hey which screw do you have in that engine bridge screwed in the motor
If you have a BMW tow hook it fits in the engine. I think the threads are a M16x3.
I just replace the engine mounts,i couldve replace the oil pan cause its leaking now im gonna have to repeat this 🤦♂️🤦♂️
That sucks. That would have been the best time to do it too. I would suggest the metal pan though. Hopefully it goes smooth for you.
Did you just use the car ramps to lower the subframe?
I actually did not remove the subframe at all. I lifted the engine up enough to clear the frame.
That’s amazing! I feel it’s not safe to remove the subframe while the front wheels are on the car ramp.
You got to be fucing kidding me, I got the 4-cylinder because I thought maintenance would be a lot easier than the six cylinder; like WTF BMW.

I had the x-drive; after changing the oil pan gasket, (335xi); I said never again, imma get the 4-cylinder 428i - oh well, - thanks for the video
