Everything Lightsabers CANNOT Cut Through In Star Wars

- The lightsaber. The iconic weapon of the Jedi and the Sith. Its blade was so immensely hot it could cut through most materials with ease. As we discussed in a recent video over on my shorts channel, lightsaber blades burned with the heat of a star. Or around 25,000 degrees Celsius. However, despite this, there were many materials that were completely, or at least partially resistant to the blade of a lightsaber. In today's video, we will discuss every single material that was lightsaber resistant in the whole of star Wars, drawing both from legends and canon.
We'll roughly be going from the least effective to the most effective material. So make sure to stick to the end to find out the best defense against a Jedi or a Sith Lord.
But before we begin, only about 10% of you have subscribed here on my second Star Wars channel. If you’d like to see more longer videos, make sure to like comment, subscribe and watch until the end for the algorithm.
Anyway, let us begin.
First off we have armour weave. The most flexible of all the materials discussed in this video. This cloth like material dissipates energy across its surface, allowing it a degree of protection against blaster bolts and even Lightsabers, although it wasn't particularly effective. Count Dooku and Vader both used it in their capes while Mandalorians often made their under armour out of this stuff.
Although Armourweave was rather limited in protecting against lightsaber strikes, it's flexibility made it very useful. As was the case with Vader, the Armourweave cloak simply added an additional layer of defence, while also giving the dark lord his signature dapper appearance.
Another cloth-like lightsaber-resistant material was Noris Root. Noris Root was a rare and beautiful plant native to the planet of Almar. During The days of the Jedi Civil War, a highly sophisticated method of crushing up the root into red dye existed. This dye could then be applied to clothing, creating energy resistant robes that could resist lightsaber blades and blaster bolts.
Orbalisks were another biological lightsaber resistant material. Orbalisks were essentially parasites that fed off of the dark side of the force. Once attached to the host, they would grow and multiply until eventually the host had been completely consumed. However, Freedon Nad discovered how to prevent the parasites from covering ones face, hands and feet, creating a biological suit of lightsaber-resistant armor. However, although highly lightsaber resistant, it did have some drawbacks. Unsurprisingly, a suit of armor made of dark side parasites was very painful, meaning it could only be used by the greatest of all dark siders such as Darth Bane. However, it's use was even limited for the Sith as these creatures were not lightning resistant. In fact, Darth Bane was eventually forced to remove his Orbalisk armour as he ended up killing much of it accidentally with his own force lightning.
Another whole catagory of lightsaber resistant materials is those used by the Yuuzhan Vong.
These genetically engineered biological monstrosities were designed for a whole range of different tasks, from defense to offense.
The most notable example of this was Vondun Crab Armour. Similar to the Orbalisk armour, it would engulf the user entirely. This armour was almost completely resistant to blaster fire and lightsabers. However, this did have it's weaknesses. Because it was biological armour, it could suffer from biological issues. For example, the armour was allergic to some kinds of pollen. Like the Orbalisk armour, it was also highly vulnerable to force lightning, making this ability the Yuuzhan Vongs greatest weakness.
The Yuuzhan Vongs main weapon was also highly lightsaber resistant. The Amphistaff was a genetically engineered snake like creature that doubled up as both a melee and a ranged weapon. The sides of the Amphistaff were razor thin, measuring in the atoms, meaning that it could cut through objects as easily as a lightsaber. Like Vondun Crab Armour, it was almost completely impervious to lightsaber attacks. The only reason this isn't futher down the list is because of its major weaknesses. Like most Yuuzhan Vong bio tech, It was suspectable to allergies, viruses and electrical currents, which dramatically decreased it's effectiveness.
A lightsaber resistant material from the force unleashed games was Felician skull blades. Using the bones of an unknown creature native to their planet, the Felicians were able to create immensely strong blades that could resist the immense heat of a lightsaber. It is believed that the creatures bones contained many micro crystals with similar properties to kyber crystals. Once they were imbued with the force, it allowed for an extremely deadly and almost indestructible blade.

If beskar can resist a lightsaber which is as hot as a star?
Then how hot are the mandalorian forges?
At least as hot as a black hole.
Hotter than a star
*It is mandalorian patented secret
So a plasma cutter should cut through it better than a lightsaber
My theory is it can be melted only it exposed to high temperature for a long period of time, which would explain how it is able to withstand Lightsaber strikes, but simultaneously be processed.
There’s also Finn’s back, that’s also something a lightsaber can’t cut through

Here’s a fun fact about Mando’a, the Mandalorian language, for those unaware. “Beskar” means metal, or steel, but is usually used specifically in reference to the famous Beskar Steel mentioned here. “Beskar’gam” means “Armour”, and is famously included in the Resol’nare (Essentially the Mandalorian 10 commandments), but it literally translates to “Metal Clothes.”
Another similar situation with Mando’a is the common greeting “Su cuy’gar”, which literally means “You’re still alive.”
Oya! :D

@@OvanIsANerd says the one on this video 💀
@@gunkyfartist19 We are all nerds my friend
Cool info
You're close with the Beskar'gam, but the better translation is "metal skin", which in my opinion tells you all you need to know about how important armor is to all Mandalorian sects, being equated to a person's skin, you'll recognize a Mandalorian by their armor before anything else, just like you'd recognize most other peoples by their skin
If i remember correctly the gills on the crab armor that the yuuzhan vong used was a weak spot.Located on the vong's armpits.
Yes that's right!
@@VadersFortress2 thanks
You forgot one other teensy tiny little one that can also resist lightsaber blades...
Other lightsaber blades.
Lightsaber armor
Personally I feel like Phrik probably ranks above Beskar, it had a major reputation for being indestructible.
It is also a bit more common and easy to forge
It is said that Phrik is the most durable material in the universe. It is virtually indestructible and significantly lighter than Mandalorian iron. He is simply rating Beskar higher out of bias.
I think it depends on the continuity, in Legends it is definitely more durable than Beskar, a Phrik Box survived the destruction of Alderan after all.
But in Canon Grevious sliced through a Phrik Magnaguard Staff, granted Grevious is a lot stronger than most if not all Jedi but still, meanwhile Pure Beskar can withstand blows from a Rancor without a scratch.
Well phrik
@@anthonyrodriguez3495 honestly I feel like that’s a screw up on the writer’s part.
Are "Finn's spine" and "Kylo Ren's face" on this list
“Phrik is another lightsaber resistant material.“
*I am ashamed to admit that I laughed at this.*
plot armor is the most lightsaber resistant thing than anything in the star wars universe
Cortosis is also completely immune against any type of force. So in an full suit of cortosis, u are resistend against palpatines lightnings for example. I just think cortosis cant withstand force for a long time
You'll also die from getting sick with it.
Cortosis is also known to be very toxic and brittle against blunt damage though. So full body armor might not be the best idea.
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 But a cortosis / Phrik alloy, possibly with something else added would likely be extremely good.
Finn's spine was also somewhat resistant
Can it cut through the Nokia 3310 phone?
Good point.
😂😂😂😂👍👍
No
@@amog8202 I made my own lightsaber and bought a Nokia which costs 3,000,000 doll hairs. I tried to cut the Nokia but it not only resisted the blow but it CUT THE BLADE IN HALF. So I agree.
Edit: I said doll hairs on purpose for the laughs
No
Have to admit, a tiny bit disappointed "other lightsabers" wasn't on this list lol
I can confirm human skin does not stop lightsabers
The Felician skulls were coated in the force. These guys also created force shields and would use the force to throw dirt clumps with the same speed as a blaster bolt. That's why they were able to stand up to a lightsaber.
Being a history nerd kind of helps here I would do a kind of brigandine armor with phrik and beskar plates with an armorwheave covering and perhaps a norris root dyed set of clothes to act as my chainmail equivalent now I'm sure in universe you would have to me the richest mf in the galaxy but I like the idea of brigandine armor because the small plates are replaceable and the armorwheave i'm assuming could be dyed so you could make it stylish and have even more protection and most brigandine would have had chainmail accompanying so the Boris root clothes would somewhat make up for that
And I know they most likely wouldn't have brigandine armor in universe but just saying my set of armor would kick mandalorian armor to the dirt

Going into this expecting “Rey’s plot armor” to be on the list
1:57 Yeah.....that white text over the white background....genius.
Imagine making some kind of chain mail like armor out of quantum armor as well as your lightsaber hilt. On top of that make some light paper thin external armor for even more invincibility. Congrats, you can now rank Death Star shots with ease, you don’t even need to do anything. Just standing there will deflect anything that exists
I'd go with a ZilloBeast and quantum hybrid armor
I always had the idea of zillobeast armor, it seems to be immune to everything.
@@az1202 wasn't this the reason to bring it to Coruscant and create the Phase-II-Armor in the end?

I wish we got more star wars media set in ancient times with stuff like proto-sabers, swords and firearms
“Oh come on man my armor just got liver failure”
Nah man, it's the silver Lego blocks that are the most resistant
The new lightsabers in the sequals can't cut through even storm trooper armour
STORMTROOPER ARMOR

1:57 white on black text can be read over any background
There are a few lightsabers that can cut through everything on this list it just depends on which kyber crystal do you have such as eksar kaun his lightsaber could cut straight through polt and Mandalorian armour
I could have sworn that Luke tried using his lightsaber on the Sun Crusher at one point during that book. iirc, it just scattered the blade everywhere or something.
Interesting discussion of Lightsaber-resistant materials
Most lightsaber resistant creature: Ogda Bogda
Ah yes crucial info I need to know
The Vong had such 'convenient' abilities didn't they? :P
In fairness they had to deal with ancient droid armies having energy resistant armor would be a basic requirement
The Vong where aware of what was happening in the Galaxy and could genetically control themselves so they just made good gear.
It’s kind of funny how all this legends material is so obviously more interesting than anything in the sequels
I just did some very extensive research on this yesterday, reading through tons of articles. I have to say from almost every source that I have seen has said Phrik is the ultimate material. I can’t understand why you said Orbalisks, Vonduun Crabs, and Phrik were less effective than Mandalorian Iron. According to Legends Phrik is the all time most durable metal and was preferred due to it being significantly lighter, additionally Cortosis would be more powerful as well as it wasn’t only able to block sabers, but could short them out as well. Completely extinguishing a sabers blade. Returning to my point of the organic armors we’re both virtually indestructible aside from force lightning. Both would empower the user, particularly Orbalisk and the Sith, as the pain would feed the Darkside of the user and create a symbiotic synergy between the two. A similar relationship was described to have existed with Yuuzhan Vong. Unfortunately the Orbalisks were only utilized by Bane and Freedon, so the art was lost. It is also healthy to note that the armor would send them into uncontrolled fits of rage.
Another material to note; quantum crystalline armor, as seen on the sun crusher, could withstand multiple supernovae.
Shut up
See but having a symbiotic relationship with an organic parasite like material has many drawbacks ti consider. Looking for the best of something isnt just looking at its stats
what about that wood from the clone wars the wookie youngling uses for his saber?
I'm reading Thrawn Alliances now and Thrawn speaks of Chiss armor being designed to absorb and disperse as much energy as possible. Would that armor be effective at all against lightsabers?
It can cut through your enemies skin but not your own. Because somehow swinging a fire saber around , nobody manages to accidentally cut themselves because reasons
What would happen if someone ignited their light saber on beskar
Before Disney got involved, this was a clip video saying "another lightsaber," and that was it.
So, which if these materials is the vibroblade from KOTOR made out of?
Then what is the armor everyone wears in the games made of?
What about Galen Marek? In The Force Unleashed his clothes, lightsaber, and body manage to be impervious to the death star lasers, and clearly it's not some kind of oversight because when he throws stormtroopers in they disintegrate
That's a glitch. They updated it so if you're too close, you get instantly disintegrated. I hate the death star level so much.
The very first time Luke handles his father's light saber he waves it around carelessly as if it was utterly harmless. I think he comes within inches of cutting his own head off.
25K Deg C would vaporize the Jedi and everything in a 50’ radius!!!
Alright, I know my shopping list now.
I think beskar is considered the best because it's very consistent and has very few weaknesses. It's main weakness that I have noticed is that it's shit against explosions and mudhorns.
as is pretty much all armor xd

Norris Root is obviously gonna be lightsaber immune, because it’s named after Chuck Norris, the only person that can slam a revolving door. Obviously, and should be rookie knowledge.
Also based on Kenobi it apparently cannot cut through plastic Stormtrooper Armor......😂😂
SUper intersting stuff! The way you are speaking here is a bit distracting though. and We Go UP and now we go dowwn.
Informative video(s), all good and nice. But I think you need to train on your speech, when you read your script you speak very loudly on points where it doesn't sound natural, it's a bit annoying when. Sorry, I had to point this out, it's driving me crazy because the volume changes so much.
Phrik would be my first choice although I would probably use songsteel perhaps or mithra Mithra was more common in the old republic and it was used in echani shield suits or echani kinetic armor that protected against energy and electrical damage it was difficult for a lightsaber to cut it had good artistic qualities and the echani shield suits had thousands of energy ray shield emitters it also could protect against slugs and projectile weapons they also used it in the eternal empire die it with norris root and a person could have a light armor that is probably more versatile than most of the more commonly known metals . The only
drawback was that it became very expensive and difficult to mine but what are your thoughts?
My thoughts are that zillobeast skins seems good.

The best lightsaber would be one which could be concealed for stealth missions.
So they dont feel a little hot being literal centimeters from something thats 25000 degrees hot
Add darth Vader’s face to this list
How can anyone even be near a lit light sabre if it’s that hot??????
10:12 If I remember correctly, cortosis bullets are so powerful that they can actually destroy the gun they're fired from, which may be another reason why cad bane stopped using them
How does that work? The casing is made from cortosis, the propellant would be some gunpowder equivalent
Don't forget people in Star Wars video games
Since Disney took over lightsabers actually don’t cut at all, you just wave them near someone and they randomly die. This happens in ROTJ, but that was more because it would’ve taken a lot of money and technology to do in the 80s. Still doing this in the 20s with the budget they have is outrageous
