  • Acura went with a fairly mundane 2.0-liter turbo inline-four for the "sporty" RDX A-Spec. This is a little disappointing because it isn't very exciting or efficient.

    Sorry but the RDX is not about the MPG. It’s about the joy of driving. Take it out on a drive up in the mountains and see how it shines.

    We only have 3k on our 2024 RDX but so far haven’t seen 26 mpg. 18 or so around town and 24 hwy with the cruise set at 70 and premium gas. 22 mpg running regular gas. Had a 2020 CRV that got us 32 hwy and a 21 Audi Q5 that got us 35. Absolutely love driving the RDX but really expected a little better mpg.

      Can’t complain when it’s an SH-AWD. It’s running on all 4 wheels. I love my 2024 RDX and that’s my only complaint, the fuel economy on this vehicle, but man does it drive so perfect! I’ll take this steering and handling over all the competition luxury vehicles.

    I just got my 2022 RDX Aspec Advance. Oddly identical to this one. The first tank I got about 18, but that was a lot of sitting and figuring out the touch screen and settings with the car running and a lot of fun on backroads with acceleration in sport mode. I had a 3 row RX with a 3.5 that I traded in. Got about 21 city and 26 mixed on regular. My RDX is up to 19.5 mpg in mixed driving and I’ve been in comfort and driving normally. I’m not going to say I regret my decision, but I’m definitely going to watch your review on mpg of any car I buy in the future as 19 mpg on premium at more than $5 for premium was not what I had in mind based off the window sticker. To be fair the RDX is one of the funnest SUVs I’ve ever driven and surprisingly fast for how small the engine is.

    Also, I can confirm that regular fuel is perfectly fine. My mom just rolled over 11k miles on her 21 RDX only using regular. You just lose out on some extra power as you mentioned. Also, we've noticed similar fuel economy. We were able to squeeze out 30 mpg by staying below 65 on a longer trip, but nobody is driving that slowly. I borrowed it for a week and averaged 21 mpg with mixed driving.

      93 Octan and keeping it under 65 on cruise control got me the same results. MPG plummets as soon as I bump it to 75, and at 80 it's back down to 21/23

    Fuel economy is not the number 1 reason someone would buy an RDX. Yes, it's a luxury compact, however it's calling cards are its relative sportiness, looks, Super Handling AWD, etc. That said, it's fuel economy is ok. If the priority is fuel economy, then one would buy several other vehicles. The RDX, like many cars, crossovers, and Suvs are purchased for other reasons. I own one, and I'm ok with the MPG. Do I sometimes wish I got 30 or 40 mpgs? Sure! But if that was my top goal, I'd have bought a compact Suv that made that claim. However, for what I deemed important for me, and for the price, there's no other vehicle that I would buy. Everything else I like costs much more than the RDX. My fuel economy is in line with what was attained in the video, with city driving being considerably less, but I expected that. Also, I've noticed an improvement in my 2022 RDX A-Spec over the 6 months that I've owned it. Part of the reason is that I've learned how to maximize the fuel economy. I've been pleasantly surprised by that! If you're just driving to the store and back, primarily start and stop driving, the gas mileage will not be good. This is a 2.0 liter engine, yes, but it's a Turbo as well. My regular habits are very much mixed driving. It hits on the reasons that I bought it. It's super fun to drive, has great handling, and is super responsive. Those are the strengths of the RDX. Coupled with my experience with Acura, this is my 3rd, and I've had no problems whatsoever that really matter, and I have no regrets. If one keeps in mind why you would buy an RDX, as I've stated, then you'll enjoy it.

    • @cmrdeaconblues
      @cmrdeaconblues Рік тому

      @@edwardlyd Sure. I just kept my eye on the gauge that shows how much mpgs you're getting and learned to be a little lighter on the gas peddle depending on what it showed. In other words, on upward grades of course you have to press the peddle a little harder, but learning over time to manipulate the acceleration based on gradients, at times almost coasting more, but trying as much as humanly possible to keep that horizontal gauge over 20 mphs and up as much as possible. My car seemed to adjust to my driving habits, but it's possible that I just adjusted my driving habits to fit the vehicle. Maybe a little of both. Staying on roads with less places to stop is of course advisable..

      Sounds about right. The RDX has really good torque for it's lower weight. Only the Merc/BMW X5 are close, but the RDX does deliver that HP/Torque much earlier in the low RPMs. Its not really good on MPGs, but with Sport+ and S mode it feels fast, faster than an SUV should be lol.

I wouldn't buy an RDX new, but a used that is marked down to 25,000 is not a bad price. DM, good real life review which exposes the real MPGs which are very close to the expressed / disclosed MPGs. Your comments about the MPGs being just ehhhh, is a little out of context. The RDX ( I have a 2022 MDX , but wrestled with the 2021 RDX at the time I leased my car - the 2022 RDX has been Updated a bit) is a Sport Compact SUV with a tip of the line SH-AWD system. The Advance model (which is the way I would go) has Active Suspension Dampening System which other reviewers rave about (Amazingly, the MDX does not have that system in the American Models but is included in the Canadian models of the MDX?). But, pertaining to MPGs which is the substance of this review, is slightly disappointing. Probably about 10-15% shy of what you would expect today, especially on Premium gas. But aside from the somewhat frustrating Touch Pad Intuitive Pad (TTIP), you would be hard pressed to get a better overall SUV with these features for this money.

  • @mj8495
    @mj8495 Рік тому +1

    Not sure if it is generational differences or people who grew up with hybrids and Prius-type mileage, but for this type of vehicle, MPG is right about where you would expect it to be. Want boring appliance with good MPG? Get CRV or RAV4. I had a V6 Murano and averaged 22 mpg driving it gently, but it was super smooth (and boring). Wife has Honda Insight and gets about 50 MPG...but that car is way too small for me, has harsh ride and is not practical for my needs. So, do your research before buying, and buy what actually meets your needs 😊
    I love the RDX and cross-shopped it against the CRV Sport Touring...if MPG was #1 on my list I would have bought that and saved $10k, BUT my top priorities were 1) Comfort 2) Fun/Engaging to drive 3) Reliable. So RDX was best overall, but involves tradeoffs. Do I want the 30 mpg of my old 140 HP Accord? You bet, bet the trade-offs are worth it...to me. As they say, YMMV 😊

    @SoundMan1985 Місяць тому

    I know two people with RDX’s and both of them complain how horrendous the fuel economy is. One of them traded it in for a CRV because it was horrendous.
    The 2.0T is great power, but terrible fuel economy. I had a 2.0T accord with 90% city driving. I averaged 19mpg. Now I have a 24 x3 M40i with a 6-cylinder and I average 22.

    • @edr4973
      @edr4973 20 днів тому

      I hear what you're you saying. But the RDX is similar to other options in the compact luxury SUV market. Unless it's a hybrid, they are all getting low 20s. Unless you're getting an Integra (or ZDX), you don't buy an Acura if fuel efficiency is high on your list.
      This whole segment is ripe for hybrids. Unfortunately, Accura has gone 'all-in' with electric as their only future alternative to ICE.

    • @SoundMan1985
      @SoundMan1985 20 днів тому

      @@edr4973 I’m just saying the 2.0T from Honda gets worse fuel efficiency then V6’s. It’s too small of an engine for weight and size. A pilot can get better fuel efficiency than a 2.0T RDX or TLX.
      People buying Acura’s don’t buy them for fuel savings, but I’m sure it’s important to owners.

  • @tuyhl
    @tuyhl 2 роки тому

    I’m 2022 RDX owner. I think the issue is that Acura RDX 10th gear is shifted passed 90km/h 55mph. Any speed faster will be more than 2000rpm. That brings very bad fuel economy during highway cruising. I usually drive avg 110km/h 70mph on hwy just by following car flow. Fuel economy is just 10Km/L 23mpg. The adjustment about gear changing is nonsense. The only best fuel economy is at 60kmh 37mph - about 14km/L 33mpg. Still it is a fun car to drive in the long term.

      Those numbers are for the 3.0L Turbo B58 that is 382 HP and is found in the M440i, which is a sedan that at 3781 lbs is 1000lbs lighter than the 4863 lb X5.
      -The same X5 that gets 21/23/25, with 335HP / 330 lb-ft @ 1500 RPM, compared to the 22/28/24 the RDX is rated for coming in with 272 HP / 280 Lb-ft @ 1600 RPM.-
      -On paper, most folks would take the similar MPG with additional 60 HP, but the xDrive40i has an MSRP of $60,600, versus the $50,100 MSRP of the RDX. Then in looking at the spec sheet, the RDX comes with a TON of standard features, while even adaptive cruise control, a sunroof, a heads-up-display, and even the dang back-up camera is Optional on the BMW. So most people will be paying $15-20k more for the BMW than they would for an Acura.-
