Synthesizer demo of the analog synthesizer Kawai SX-240 from 1985.
I used an original Korg SDD-3000 for delay effects. All the sounds were programmed by me.
The Kawai SX-240 is a nice fully programmable polysynth with interesting analog sounds. Decent Japanese quality from the mid eighties era.
It has MIDI, 2 DCOs, 1 LFO, lowpass filters, 1 Highpass filter, 2 ADSR envelopes and noise. Ensemble effect (chorus), which make full string sounds possible. Useful unisono modes like Poly-8, Poly-4 or monophonic. Split and Layer capabilities. Built in sequencer. The filters are based on SSM chips as the Korg Polysix. Very underrated, it's capable of excellent synth sounds! - Наука та технологія
VERY odd and interesting! At times it sounds like PCM-based voices and wavetables, but then other sounds are so obviously analog. I wish I could get my hands on one of these because it is very beautiful and unique, especially for its era.
What a great classic bass sound! I'm in love!
I've never looked up Kawai's synths so I'll have to do some digging.
This synth has oodles of character
They are a well-kept secret indeed. Fortunate to have picked up a mint one of these a few years back for an absolute steal, now upgraded with Tauntek firmware. Love the sound, and love the aesthetic - I mean who was the genius who thought up that lurid CYAN AND BEIGE colour scheme! 😆 Allowing alphanumeric entry via the piano keys is also an uncommonly sensible design feature. But really, it's the ensemble effect that really shines.
That bass is just hypnotic.
Never heard of this one, it sounds fantastic. 🙏
Kind of sounds similar to the AKAI AX-80 in certain spots. Then it sounds totally unique at times as well. Thanks for sharing the sounds of this synth with us!
I’ve never seen or heard of this before. The sound is awesome, nothing like that phat analog sound. The wood grain sides is the shizz. Man the 70’s and 80’s style kicked ass.
I wish there was a video as nicely done as this, about the Synthex..
Maybe some day :-)
Great synth! I love the 2 patch banks that I bought from you for the DeepMind! I have recommended them in numerous UA-cam post regarding the Deepmind.
:-)
One of the best bass synths ever
Ooh, those strings at 2:50 Very Jarre. Love it!
If you have one you are lucky. This Synthesizer is now worth a lot of money.
$1,500 is a lot of money??
how much should i sell mine for. it’s my dads and it’s in perfect condition
That filter sweep at 2:31 or so is so unique! This is a really interesting synth!
a bit steppy though :-( great tone, otherwise
@@dan_remaincalm you know why its so steppy?
This was totally new to me. Would love to get an emulation that works on Apple silicon!
Kawai made some dope stuff. I keep a mav-8 around for midi splitting.
Nice sounds, love your playing style...The first 1.45 sounds very "Airwolf" :) Thank u
Analog big Surprise !!!
At the 6:07 mark That "SX" gets in a one hell of a Groove!🎹🎧💫😵😎👌👍
Sounds sweet, I really like it’s base sounds and pads. Great demo, always love to see them in my notifications!
thanks!
SUPERB ITEM OF THE TIME !!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗AMAZING ANALOG FAT SOUNDS !!!!👍👍👍👍..... DEFINITELY UNDERATED ...💗💗💗💗
same here, never heard of this amazing beauty....looked like to took quite a bit of twists to tweak the filter, like 4 or 5 turns for full sweep
But if you listen, it is just about fully open on the first turn
Liebe es! in den Tiefen des Alls!
Top, sounds and looks great. Thanks for a demo
I had a Kawai K1 in the 90’s but this one is a beauty
I still have one!
this thing sounds amazing too me
Coisa linda!
Great synth, capable of amazing sounds, used to have two of these but I just sold one of them 4 days ago in eBay, are you planning to release a patch bank for this?, would be great. (=
I'm afraid not... I created just a few patches
Good synth.
Love your vids! Do you own all these amazing things you demo?
for the most part. Own or owned
Wow that Sounds great. What is it that it reminds me of? An OB? Polysix?
Polysix but with 2 oscillators.
At the moment the bass came in, it got me.. I was oh shit!
They used to go for less than $500 not even 10 years ago. Now they set you back an arm and both legs.
They go for $1,500 now. Not bad at all.
Thanks for a great video to a great synth. Can I ask, how do you transpose the bass in split mode? On my unit it's not possible to transpose the sequencer. Thanks!
The sequencer wasn't involved... it was LFO on VCF or VCA
@@AnalogAudio1 thanks!
I had one. Excellent with the ensemble. My Juno 60 got used way more though. But very nice all the same.
Even better in dual mode.
Aaah, i have one of these, i like it so much [♥_♥]
Amazing sounds.... Would love for you to do one for the Tiesco SX210 , i just got one recently.
I had one many years ago, before UA-cam came along... a very nice synth!
@@AnalogAudio1 it is , just getting to know it now, any tips?
@@dannyk8780 yes: grab it if you can get one for a good price :-)
@@AnalogAudio1 i got it , great condition, serviced and midi mod!!
@@dannyk8780 I have 210 and I think they almost sound the same...but the 240 can go a little deeper and further.
Thanks for posting this. It sort of has that Korg Poly / Ex 800 sound to it (and now I see in your description after the fact, that iit does has Korg chips in it). Never heard of them making an analog synth. In the later part of the 80s, I owned a Kawai K5 which was 100% digital synthesis (that I stupidly sold) and a Kawai K1m (midi module) which was additive synthesis. I still have that module. They made really great synths back in the day.. I know the still make real pianos but I wish they would start make synths again. "So says MrTom.. and so it was written.."
Curious how the SX series compares to the K series, especially the K3 digital/analog hybrid? Thanks
Never tried them, I don't know...
this synth enter some serious jupiter 6 zones
Man you rule. I will let the woodgrain sooth me with analog love tones. That wheel is a lil odd but hey its fine ha!
Ive one ❤️
🎹❤ 2:44 3:16 4:31 5:08 6:25 8:28 8:36
Is this Teisco bought by Kawai? You have do find Teisco SX-400 and make a vid ;) One of my wish list to own
I had a SX-400 years ago. Great synth, but it sounds completely different.
@@AnalogAudio1 the ensemble is heaven
😍😍😍😍😍
Close your eyes - it could almost be a Polysix at times
indeed... ssm filter chips and ensemble effect :-)
Way fatter
@@SPAZZOID100 yep like a Rolandish Korg. Sort of. Almost all kawai synths are under-rated vintage gems.
Jean Bonnefoy Perhaps...but really does not sound all that much like them. Especially in dual mode.
any fx on board ?
yeah, the "ensemble" effect with ON/OFF settings.
Super cool, puts me elsewhere
Are you selling .wav? 🎹🎹🎹🤔
no, sorry
Please, find the SX400
I had one years ago, before UA-cam came along. It's quite rare, sounds cool.
Save yourself 2000 dollars and just get a K3. They’re INCREDIBLE for the money (got one 3 months ago for 330)
I have two of these, one to be repaired, one working. I love this synth. Interface is horrid, though, so use a programmer. :)
What controller do you use?, you need to re program the ROM or to use Tauntek upgrade in order to control it externally via CC's
Horrid???? Miles ahead of the DX7
It's got wooden side panels. It MUST sound good :))))
And it does.
wooden panels are very good for a start :-)
Not a million miles from a Prophet 5
Wow that’s rare! Never seen one! ( only it’s little brother the 210) thanks for the demo!.
Very nice synth & wish I’d bought one where they were affordable as for a long time they were very underrated.....but now they are just very overrated considering the stupidly high prices people are asking for them on the used market.
They are rare
1,000 made
Italo synth
Italo synth made in Japan :-D
Reminds me Van Halen’s Why can’ this be love....
Got a little Beach House -y at 1:52?
I thought it was a Microkorg when I saw it
Microkorg is shit.
