  • Guitar Center Sessions presents an exclusive masterclass with Steve Vai. Vai, who helped establish the shred guitar phenomenon in the Eighties, and transcended the genre from the very beginning becoming a legendary guitarist in his own right. Vai has remained as popular and influential as ever thanks to his adventurous, exploratory spirit, which constantly reveals new possibilities for the guitar.

If you like him or not you have to admit, he takes that guitar and dominates it.

😀😀😀well asian kids knows how to dominates better than him in my humble opinion, ain't trying to offend but i like steve vai shredding more than this whammy bar squel type, don't understand why he only used whammy most of the time it doesn't sound good unlike dimebag who does used it but only at some part like in the end of the song cemetary gates.....

For those trolling about no melody, etc, this was just a "studio" impro piece, useful when the performer wants to show different techniques to the audience. If you want to listen to Steve's phenomenal phrasing and melodies, go buy his records.

People really think playing impro is easy , try doing it without hitting a single note out of scale like steve here . .. while still being on time with the metronome

There's an aesthetic to his playing, not just musically but physically. He actually used to practice in front of the mirror, because he wanted his playing to look as good as it sounds.

one thing that's so awesome with Steve is not only he can write those beautiful guitar licks but also build a very good composition for drums, rhythm guitars, violins, or anything that you could hear in his records. It all sounded like it was written by a professional to that certain instrument.. it's really a proof that he's more than a genius guitarist.. he's truly a genius musician and composer...

I think Steve is an amazing guitar player with a very expressive feel and his ears and fingers capture every little noise that a guitar string makes. I saw him LIVE in '86 for the Roth tour and he was a fabulous entertainer too.

@ShadowLancer128 yes but its not really that simple, there are certain things that do make one "better" that another and, well steve vai has most of those things, though when comparing a certain caliber of musucian, i do agree, it is just a matter of preference.
