😀😀😀well asian kids knows how to dominates better than him in my humble opinion, ain't trying to offend but i like steve vai shredding more than this whammy bar squel type, don't understand why he only used whammy most of the time it doesn't sound good unlike dimebag who does used it but only at some part like in the end of the song cemetary gates.....
For those trolling about no melody, etc, this was just a "studio" impro piece, useful when the performer wants to show different techniques to the audience. If you want to listen to Steve's phenomenal phrasing and melodies, go buy his records.
People really think playing impro is easy , try doing it without hitting a single note out of scale like steve here . .. while still being on time with the metronome
one thing that's so awesome with Steve is not only he can write those beautiful guitar licks but also build a very good composition for drums, rhythm guitars, violins, or anything that you could hear in his records. It all sounded like it was written by a professional to that certain instrument.. it's really a proof that he's more than a genius guitarist.. he's truly a genius musician and composer...
There's an aesthetic to his playing, not just musically but physically. He actually used to practice in front of the mirror, because he wanted his playing to look as good as it sounds.
I think Steve is an amazing guitar player with a very expressive feel and his ears and fingers capture every little noise that a guitar string makes. I saw him LIVE in '86 for the Roth tour and he was a fabulous entertainer too.
Zappa left some fine influence in Steve's playing in this piece! Fine job my friend and the flashes of Frank were just so tasty! Keep on keepin him alive in the delivery of your style! Thanks!
So creative ..his entire approach to the guitar is insane yet no one comes close to his note choice and expression or creativity . I listen to so much music and for me to say that means something
steve vai needs his OWN category... like a level above just being a guitarist... he can shred along ..and hold you on just one bent note...like that note was better than all the hundreds he just played... all the previous was just a lead up to that pinnacle.... superb artist..!
Im not a huge dan of his music style But hell What a Nice person. I Also like that when You do listen to him a few times improvise he tends to play in a similar way. That’s Just his personal style, Who doesnt love a person with his own style
@switch0123 he is holding two notes and pushing down on the tremalo, meaning the two notes go out of tune because they are on difrent frets so that make a wabble sound :)
E muita lavanca com o steve vai .hahaha tento entender porque ja tentei tocar por aqui e achei bem mais facil do que tocar um estilo musical como blues com slash e malmsteen!
Don't jugde the whole guitar player just by one song. Please, You can say that you didn't like this song and etc. But its Steve is undoubtable one of the most brilliant guitar players of all time. And who plays and who understands music. Knows that! Tecnique is just unbelievable, try the same or better than him. Then we can talk;
It was so awesome to sit right up front about 5 feet away from him watching this. That whole night was awesome. Steve was so cool to all of us.What a great guy.
The green thing is just a price of tape over the bottom of his neck pickup, to keep the high E string from getting caught in it when he dives with the whammy bar.
@ShadowLancer128 yes but its not really that simple, there are certain things that do make one "better" that another and, well steve vai has most of those things, though when comparing a certain caliber of musucian, i do agree, it is just a matter of preference.
Lots of feeling and i think most guitarists lack that today is feel.. You go to every guitar shop and everyone is playing as fast as they can.. But no feel.. With the pros they have a good balance..
That's the distortion and beating inherent within the dissonant minor second interval being amplified and made prominent by high gain settings. Sorry you had to wait so long for an answer.
@TEMPA01 Perhaps Ibanez should consider designing fans for Steve.. one that would be an integral part of his pedal board (controlled by a foot switch).
If you're a genuine rock music-head then Vai gives pond-for-pound you what you want every time, you can't ask for more than that. If it ain't broke then don't fix it.
at certain points in the vid you see a price tag for that guitar in the background. i couldnt tell what it was but it was vintage and cost $14,000........
@RickSantosMD thats nice. just know that until he dies millions of people will give their money to steve vai in order to listen or see him play. your snide comments over the internet will never change anything ever
Back in the day my old guitar teacher told me that Steve Via had a requirement if you wanted to play along with him, you'd had to practice 15hrs. a day. Don't doubt that at all.
@RickSantosMD YES!! Meaningless i tell you!! Its Steve Vai ffs.. You think he came there to have a rythms only session?? Maybe show how to make waffels??
If you like him or not you have to admit, he takes that guitar and dominates it.
He fingers it real good to show who’s boss
Tushar Sharma not really my style of music but I’ve started to open up more to him as I’ve gotten into technique and theory
I am a BIG BIG BIG fans of him....
He sure does,....I mean it's even a little crazy; Heaven only knows where he gets this stuff.

@snackajack117 are you a fucking donut
@snackajack117 You probably only listened to 2 minutes of one of his records and automatically hated him
People really think playing impro is easy , try doing it without hitting a single note out of scale like steve here . .. while still being on time with the metronome
Anyone who cant hear the melody doesn't have a musical ear
one thing that's so awesome with Steve is not only he can write those beautiful guitar licks but also build a very good composition for drums, rhythm guitars, violins, or anything that you could hear in his records. i fucking like this style. neither happy, neither sad. just cold rock. and yet with feeling. does this make sense? whatever, i like.
Sickingly Neutral i call it
His control and guitar iq allows this abstract and avant-garde melody to flow beautifully.
I think Steve is an amazing guitar player with a very expressive feel and his ears and fingers capture every little noise that a guitar string makes. I saw him LIVE in '86 for the Roth tour and he was a fabulous entertainer too.
Imagine rolling outta bed every morning and jamming like that...awesome.
Zappa left some fine influence in Steve's playing in this piece! Fine job my friend and the flashes of Frank were just so tasty! Keep on keepin him alive in the delivery of your style! Thanks!
the man is clearly fluent in ever single guitar way!!! amazing!
So creative ..his entire approach to the guitar is insane yet no one comes close to his note choice and expression or creativity . I listen to so much music and for me to say that means something
I’ve just been totally inspired !!! TO BECOME AN ACCOUNTANT !!!
Imagine if all the people who went to play at Guitar Center played like him.
They only do that in the guitar center in heaven
That’s why you can only imagine, because no one can
i love to watch him improvise!
steve vai needs his OWN category... like a level above just being a guitarist... he can shred along ..and hold you on just one bent note...like that note was better than all the hundreds he just played... all the previous was just a lead up to that pinnacle.... superb artist..!

one creative way to make a possible guitar buyer to back away....
Using the Legacy II’s here I see. Finally a video of him playing them 👍
This is super the way he play the gitar.keep it up it is real good.
An amazing guy... he changed guitar history... only that!
Vai has his own passion...and so do mr.satch,
Now...there are a lot of guitarists, but
Only a few of them were legend.
Mind blown once again
He is one of the few that truly uses the whammy bar in a musical way
Imagine if you went to a guitar center and actually seen one of his guitars.....
There’s a place by my house that has 3 for like wayyy over priced but still it was pretty dope to walk in and see them
Probably the only guitar I've never played at any guitar center
Quite a few at my guitar center
Imagine owning one
The backing track sounds like Building the Church
Im.convinced....he can make any sound he wants out of that guitar...no problem.
Love his Bogner phase
Admirably inventive.
nobody:
Steve Vai: Playing guitar
Subtitles:yes
I’m amazed
A guitar god to be sure.
Im not a huge dan of his music style But hell What a Nice person. I Also like that when You do listen to him a few times improvise he tends to play in a similar way. That’s Just his personal style, Who doesnt love a person with his own style
this man has astral projects and becomes one with the whammy
His fingers move so quick it's insane.
One word...."Mastery".

@0deer0se "Building The Church", he's jamming over the bass riff mostly. He does a similar jam on the Minneapolis DVD
Don't jugde the whole guitar player just by one song.
Please, You can say that you didn't like this song and etc.
But its Steve is undoubtable one of the most brilliant guitar players of all time. And who plays and who understands music. Knows that! Tecnique is just unbelievable, try the same or better than him. Then we can talk;

It was so awesome to sit right up front about 5 feet away from him watching this. That whole night was awesome. Steve was so cool to all of us.What a great guy.
my brain hurts from this
The green thing is just a price of tape over the bottom of his neck pickup, to keep the high E string from getting caught in it when he dives with the whammy bar.
I like John 5 and Steve vai
Ahahahah. Hes like the godfather of harmonics and vibrato.
@ShadowLancer128 yes but its not really that simple, there are certain things that do make one "better" that another and, well steve vai has most of those things, though when comparing a certain caliber of musucian, i do agree, it is just a matter of preference.
He is icon. He's down to earth, guy next door. Steve Vai, perfection in his way. 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Does anyone know the name of the backing track he's using here? I'd love to jam to it sometime
Nick Meredith ua-cam.com/video/5bSXBCBj6_Q/v-deo.html
Onde consigo a Backing track???
how can there possibly be dislikes on this?
Hes a fucking magician
Lots of feeling and i think most guitarists lack that today is feel.. You go to every guitar shop and everyone is playing as fast as they can.. But no feel.. With the pros they have a good balance..
And that drummer was amazing!! Anyone know who that guy was? Wow.
Dave moskot honestly it seems to be a virtual GarageBand drummer
How does he keep track of the frets?
@DarkWriter31
maybe you known this now but its and improv, over a repeated part of "building the church" .... sorry for my english
00:26 - 00:30 whats that shaking effect sound???? incredible!
That's the distortion and beating inherent within the dissonant minor second interval being amplified and made prominent by high gain settings. Sorry you had to wait so long for an answer.
@Footballzeal well it is a steve vai video. what did u expect?
He is a god!
That depends on what instrument it is and who's playing said instrument
Mr. Steve Vai
Ohh look at those elegant beauties he got
lol he was spinning the fuck out with some of those licks, he is human after all x)
I kinda like this :)
whats the green thing on his guitar for. i thought i would question you guys instead of the master
Keeps his pick from getting caught in the pick up when he’s up picking.
It's like aliens communicating via radio waves.
i want those shoes hes got
What's the name of this piece? Or was it just a jam? Very cool.
2:25 HOW DOES HE DO IT
at certain points in the vid you see a price tag for that guitar in the background. i couldnt tell what it was but it was vintage and cost $14,000........

What is that green thing at his pick up ..
Its to stop his E string getting stuck under the edge of the pickup
Yeah. But also, it helps stop the pick catching on the pickups too.
DIS ONEZ DA BEZTIZT!!!!
the best part is his shoes
Te melhor do que esse cara
Are all the frets scalloped?
