Ozzy Listening to Lost Randy Rhoads Solo

- Watch Ozzy in awe as he listens to a Randy Rhoads solo found on the master tapes for the 1st time, 30 years after it was made. The solo is available as RR on the Blizzard of Ozz 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition (bit.ly/kLTZjG) as well as the both solo on cd as well as this video footage being available in the Blizzard of Ozz / Diary if a Madman Collectors Box Set (myplay.me/5ia)
It's crazy how he looks healthier today than he did back in the 80s even though he's 146 years old now.
That’s just what happens if you stop taking drugs
To be fair this is nearly 10 years old
Did you look at the date this video was posted?
Even crazier that he's aged 90,000 years in the last 4 days....

Its clear Ozzy misses that man with all his being
Who doesn't miss Randy Rhoads?
Dude. Welled up like a bitch. You can see it. That is pure ubfiltered emotion. Farking brutal. Thats is a look of "seen a ghost" if ive ever seen it.
They were as good as friends could be I think, that was an insane shredding btw
Probably the last true friend he met in life.
Game Thogic In other words, not at all.
Without audio you don't know if Ozzy is observing something truly spectacular, or watching his mac n cheese reheat in the microwave.
LOOOOOOOOL facts
This made me laugh too much
I shouldn't laugh but that is too fkn funny.

I laughed so hard at this
Would be almost like hearing your dead brother's voice on an answering machine 30 years later.
No. It wouldn't.

Everyone is a UA-cam comment section philosopher. He probably hits refresh on this comment every 5 minutes waiting for someone to go "woah" "that's deep" "mind blown" etc.

Everyone always makes fun of ozzy for his state after years of drugs. But you can almost see his mind clear and his undivided attention to the playing of his late dear friend

He just care about music
He’s doing pretty well considering both his age and lifestyle, the fact that he’s 71 (happy birthday) and relatively healthy physically, and for the most part knows what’s going on, is pretty insane

Legend has it, that Randy still hasn't stopped going off on that solo.

Would have been interesting to hear what Ozzy was thinking.
bro he died. how could he still be playing

This may be a miscommunication on your parts in regards to it being a joke.
You're probably not familiar with this sense of humor.
But essentially it's saying that his spirit is still playing it. Lol
Like, yo, even now in death the man hasn't stopped..! 😂
To this day, Ozzy has always said his one biggest regret was not being awake to stop Randy from getting on the plane
@@toryquinton2677 I'm referring to the day of the accident that killed Randy.
What is so odd is that Randy had a terrible fear of flying and had a very hard time convincing him to go up on that ride. He finally relented and now the rest is history. At least they reported he died instantly so there was no suffering.
When Randy auditioned for Ozzy...Oz heard him warming up and told him he had the job.
Same thing happened with Dave Mustaine and Metallica. Although Mustaine is great, Randy was a whole other beast
And kept asking him was he a woman
@Goddess Sky level on the level of the level jajajja

@@350orangecrush7 Ozzy passed out right after too
When you consider that Randy died in 1982, still reasonably early in the history of heavy metal, and some of those solo parts still sound amazing today, it's incredible.
Righteous !
DaveRelph001
that also boggles my mind because the solo was way too advanced for the music scene back then. randy is some sort of time traveler
Ahead of his time no doubt. I was born in 82. And the RHODES MODES are essential
100% true!
Seeing how quickly the underground flourished though, I'd say this wasn't as early in the genre as you'd think. Heavy metal was doing all kinds of crazy things in 1982.
This solo was probably recorded in 1980-1981 and it still holds up today. Absolutely Amazing!
Of.course it does, the 70s 80s produced the best musicians
Holds up with today's players it smokes most of em. The 80s metal and rock guys are the best players ever in my opinion of course there is great guys today but nobody hears them because music is pretty much dead
What does that even mean?
LOL NO IT DOESNT THIS IS BULLSHIT all classic rock music and this crap is all shit. People are WAY WAY WAY WAY better now
No it doesn’t. It sounds like a teenager at Guitar Center.

That’s the rift at least
Ha!!..😂😆😆
Ozzy: I've never heard. As in my ears never worked - as far as I can remember.
Ozzy looked like he was about to cry. But he always seems taken aback. You can see it on his face. He said he loved Randy Rhoads and felt a lot of guilt and remorse for what happened. His words not mine. This is simply an observation.
if you heard your dead friends lost solo you would feel emotional
+Matt Elrod and your point is? I never said anything bad about Ozzy crying. It's a tough thing to deal with. I have also listened to lost audio of several friends that played music that I hadn't heard before and cried. I'm a musician and songwriter.
+Ben Trismegistus I wasn't insinuating that you said anything bad
Matt Elrod
It came off as such. "if you heard your dead friends lost solo you would feel emotional" That is something that should be left unsaid. In my comment that notion should have been obvious...that is, since I felt the need to express what he was feeling, through my own empathized observation.
+Ben Trismegistus I apologize
every guitar player has a handful of little "ditties" that they play when they're just screwing off, and you can hear some recognizable melodies in this that he must have warmed up or practiced with. so cool to hear famous musicians playing outside of an official performance or recording
And this was a pretty little ditty

@Babis Tse the use to store it in cereal boxes and heap it on the kitchen table. Ozzy himself told this story
0:55 Ozzy recognizes part of the famous tune by Italian composer from the early 19. c. Rossini. Ouverture from William Tell.
He askes "what's this?" , but I don't think the other guy recognizes.

Yeah noticed that myself, I smiled
Almost 10 years later I come back and still see the jokes. Yeah, as he got older he might have gone off the rails, but watch the comments change after his eventual passing. All I see is a man who misses his friend, and hearing something new is like hearing his voice again. That's what music is, and it proves it stays no matter how far you've gone...or maybe this is why he's further gone that it sticks with you all these years.
yeah, sad to see isn't it. drug abuse turned ozzy into essentially a mentally challenged person, and people mock him for it. laughing at the disabled isn't cool however they got that way, and someone shouldn't have to die to make someone realise that

Randy was taken away form us when he was 25 years old. I can’t imagine how much more amazingness he could’ve pumped out for another few decades.
You can hear other songs in that riff. No mistake that is Randy
+Andrew C of course bro , we can feel this .
Fernando Nogueira The world lost a good one that day braddah.
Andrew C Yeah bro , he was great ! a genius ! had influenced me a lot .
Andrew Colville Not "note for note" at all.
If you can't hear them then I don't know what to tell you.
William Tell Overture.
Randy's throwaway riffs were better than 90% of other guitarists' best riffs.
Yeah, but they weren't better than buckethead.
+ChallBoy13 don't forget jimmy page's riffs
Who? He is a technically great guitar player, but what has he written? He sucks.
***** bro. All I can tell you is that he's your dad's dad
Buckethead is a mind blowing guitarist but its one thing to copy and modify open source techniques, another to create a song that resonates with not just other guitarists but with the sheeple as well.
Seeing Ozzy's reaction to this is such a bittersweet feeling for me. I can't imagine how he must have felt. You can feel the amazement and pain just by looking at his face. He really loved Randy. Who can blame him for that? Randy will always be my favorite guitarist. I know it's so much more intense for Ozzy.
Even from the dead randy blows any modern-day guitatist out of the water. Rock in peace brotha
The ONLY good thing about living in San Antonio is that in 1982 ozzy pissed on The Alamo and I got to see Randy Rhoads... Beautiful set and a spotlight on Randy is what I remember the most... I was CRUSHED when I heard he died because he was just so amazing... Very sad day...

@@adalstan 13 years if your talking to me. Guthrie govan 👍
@ADK_MSE playing for 25 years my boy. Should I follow Rolling Stone magazine, they said Lennon was a better guitarist than Randy?
Think about this: Randy was one of Ozzy's best friends. They were pretty close. His death sent Ozzy spiraling deeper into depression and drug use.
And now, after thirty years, Ozzy is hearing something from his old friend that he hasn't heard in years. Something new. Like a message left for him, thirty years in the past.
Just... imagine how Ozzy feels for a second.
Well put CJ, very well expressed. :)
\m/\m/
I guess we'll just have to imagine, since Ozzy seemed clinically unable to convey a single thought or emotion. For all he knows, he's at a 7-11.
Black Death 1347 You can see it in his eyes, though. And hear it when he says "Wow."
Black Death 1347 no though or emotion? did you not see his face during the whole video? he looked like he shit himself after hearing this, his face is like holy shit, this guy was amazing.
+Black Death 1347 Only a brain-dead fool would watch this and say Ozzy conveyed no thought. smh. Perhaps you have an issue with awareness or simply you need words to tell you what to think. The look in his eyes and the one simple. "wow" conveyed much more than many words could ever say. Damn common core is destroying people's damn minds....helping to create the very ones who tend to cut on others mental faculties.....the irony.
Man, i can feel Ozzy's heart going. He clearly still misses Randy, he looked like he would cry any second. He looked as if he was clearly seeing Randy playing in front of him, like a ghost.
There was an interview with Ozzy where he was asked if he could go back and change anything about his career what would it be - He said "I'd never have let Randy get on that fuckin' plane". Didn't hesitate or have to think a second about it.
He truly misses randy
Pensei que eu era o único Brasileiro aqui
@@solartoast I saw that one! I cried! Literally without hesitation he said that.. I have so much love for ozzy and randy. And I wish randy would be here to this day to help ozzy get through the tough times he’s going through.. I have so much love for the prince of darkness himself.. I’ve watched the most of his shows he’s been on and I saw his true self. He has feelings, he loves and he crys. He replaced Randy in a heartbeat when he died, they were in the middle of touring, he found a replacement guitarist and resumed the tour in just two weeks.
Literally everything about this man's persona, including his edgy "darkness and satanism" is fake and for more money. I bet this is not even the first time he heard the tapes...they just brought in the camera and acted like it is.

When Randy veers sideways into the William Tell Overture for a few seconds XD
Ozzy is saying "whats this?" cos he recognises the classical melody, people assume he is saying "whats this" meaning the whole track. You see the recognition in his eyes
Forever Grateful exactly. He was asking what that little riff was. The other dude was kind of condescending, but it’s funny watching Ozzy give up on the thought because he can tell the other dude isn’t following him.
It’s like he’s saying, “fuck it. Think I’m stupid, I don’t give a fuck.” and then going inward to try to figure it out.
Espectro Saga glad you both caught that Ozzy wasn’t just brain dead there.
I mean it's not the first time randy played that. Go back to his Quiet Riot days and he played it quite a bit.
@@jackmacmusic Yeah, pretty sure he's asking "what's this?" in the british way of "why is this the way it is;" sort of asking himself and the engineer why the quote sort of sprang up out of nowhere, prompting the engineer's comments about how the take was done and he just kept going.
Randy was such a beast. He had the potential to be on par with Satch, Vai, Malmsteen, Petrucci etc. Shame his life got cut so short
perhaps he has exceeded the musicians you reference
Randy was better
Randi met that potential; many a times I wished he’d never gotten on that plane. We lost a true genius with him...
I think Randy was better. He didn't follow the modes, he made them up as he played. Malmsteen always follow the modes, which works but its kind of boring and certainly less genius.
Indeed! You are right
Today is Dec 23 2023 and I just saw the latest pics of Ozzy leaving the hospital. Damn. It actually choked me up. Young people of today won't have that. There is so much social media legacy people just leave behind when they go now that it just won't feel the same because they aren't completely gone. I had to think of the old story that Steven Tyler was so wasted on drugs in the 70s and early 80s that he can't remember making certain Aerosmith records and allegedly once suggested in the mid-80s that the band should cover a song he had heard on the radio and really liked only to be told "It's us fuckhead!"

Ozzy is a true musical genius. So he was probably FEELING Randy through that solo. You could tell he almost cried about halfway through.
you do know ozzy has nothing to do with the music at all right? or the lyrics? he basically pays people to write songs for him, pays people to record them for him, then hops into the studio 1 day hammered off his ass, slams em all out and lets the techs apply autotuning as needed.
@@FingerinUrDaughter pretty much everything he's done in the studio since No More Tears has been WAY overproduced. His new stuff sounds like an AI algorithm wrote it lol. Ozzy reacts to the William Tell Overture at 0:54 . A little joke left by Randy.
Perik Holt Yeah that’s the best part and thanks for this comment because like Ozzy, I recognized it but would never be able to name it.
XD 4 seconds of playing this "joke" were enough and Ozzy was pissed off. Of course Randy was a pro guitar master and turned Ozzy's mood. This was what i thought, till the end of this clip. The one to his right wanted to declare. :) At the end he proudly said: "...and you listen that, that nobody has heard in 30 years.??. To Ozzy it was enogh again and straight he answered " I've never heard that" and the clip is over :D :D To me the answer was correct, because Ozzy didn't agree with this "Joke" and with the one to his right, maybe... and related to the "30 years" Ozzy's answer was true again (this solo was lost till this clip was made, so how could Ozzy ever hear it? And by the way Randy was the first, that has heard it. So it's difficult to say " that nobody has heard for 30 years" :D But it doesn't really matter, because after that Ozzy surely became happier again. Reasons could be : 1. no talk about something, that Ozzy should know better 2. Time to improve his drug level 3. Time to improve his drug level and last but not least Number 4 : Time to improve his drug level.

you know, i'm not one to make a crack about dislikes on a video.
But how could you not like this? This is a testament to true friendship. Randy and Ozzy were practically fucking brothers. He probably heard this some 25-30 years after Randy died, and in less than a minute he probably was thinking about all the time they spent together, all the fun they had, and how losing him changed his life.
And as much as I really hate to say this...
94 People really just don't get what it means to have a friend.
My advice: get out more instead of down-voting shit.
a, nope! Randy didnt even want to be on the same bus as the drunkin fool Ozzy was there to party RR was there to play his ass off every nite write and get better if that was possible, they werent even speaking.Ozzy found out RR was moving on after a few albums!
justin kasey Ozzy himself did say that Randy Rhoads wanted to move on because he had classical guitar goals in mind. Randy got tired of getting up on stage and playing the same rock songs over and over again. He felt restrained. So Randy would work on his goals when he had the time, while Ozzy and the rest of the gang would go out and party at a bar. However, that says nothing about what their relationship status was like. Randy really did like and have a lot of respect for Ozzy. Randy was also appreciative of the opportunities that Ozzy gave him. When Randy had made the decision to quit the band, it was not for any personal reasons. He wanted to quit so he can pursue other opportunities that laid before him.
It would have been amazing to have seen what Randy would have produced after his work with Ozzy. One of the most spectacular soloists to ever pick the strings! I have practiced his 'Crazy Train' solo thousands of times and still need to practice to achieve the speed and clarity that shines on this brilliant track. I know there are far more guitarists now a days who are just as good, if not better guitarists, but this was back in the late 70's, early 80's. And the fact remains that he was ready to move on to conquer new styles and techniques with his guitar playing. Let's not forget he passed at the young age of 26... Holy Shit! R.I.P Randy Rhoads, You will always be missed, remembered and never forgotten. Thanks for the music. Cheers!
I Wear My Sunglasses At Night With 3,5M views there are bound to be some miss-clicks..
@@SendEstringsForXmas but Ozzy had recently punched him in the face in a drunken rage when Randy told him he was gonna leave to pursue classical guitar at UCLA
It’s amazing how unmistakeable Randy’s tone is! I’m still amazed to this day that no one has been able to copy, mimic, and or recreate his sound. Wonder if he’d still sound like this today if he was alive. It’s really such a shame!Randy should still be around today. All because of someone else’s fault deciding to piloting a plane high under the influence. Randy and Rachael Youngblood should of used better judgment an told the guy no and had backed out of that one. It’s too bad will never get to here that tone on a new album or live again.
randy Rhodes was one of the main reasons I started playing guitar he was the best rest in rock n roll heaven randy 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Legends may not be here any longer but in their music they will live forever.
After all these years Ozzy never stops being blown away by Randy, I love it!
I think this is as close as we've ever come to seeing the expression on Ozzy's face when he first heard Rhoads play.
Ozzy and Randy were a matched pair! Its almost impossible to find that again! RIP RR!
I want to cry hearing this!!! WE LOST A LEGEND WAY TOO SOON!!!
RIP Randy!!!!!
