This show is so good man. It’s the andor of this year. All the doubters quickly being silenced. I’m tired of hearing the “nobody asked for this show” argument
Them saying that just shows they don't understand the penguins position from the start. Everyone doubts him, even sometimes he's mother.
This show has a much stronger start than Andor though. Andor took 4-5 episodes before it hit it's stride
@@paradoxN0W agreed.
@@paradoxN0WThe first two episodes of Andor felt like the first 5 hours of an open world game that handholds you through the tutorial town, complete with it's own level boss with Inspector whats-his-face.
Once he left the first planet it felt like the "open world" part of Andor actually started.
Please don't compare this to a Disney show... jesus that's just disrespectful...🤦♂️
Sofia sleeping in the closet because it is small like her cell and the way she eats food so fast are both after effects of being institutionalized.
The best part is when a dad joke was told, and Adam the non-dad made a face and Jay the dad smiled and chuckled.
Sofia is equal parts scary and attractive.
Attractive? How can someone be scary AND attractive? You are either scary OR attractive.
@crimsonghoul8983 That is probably healthier for you...but it's not the case for me at least lol
Yep. The actress is gorgeous as all get out and it's got me very conflicted when she's on screen😂
@@crimsonghoul8983 It's called scarousal, the act of being scaroused
I've had a crush on Cristin Milioti for years now.
I love that New York City knowledge coming through, yep the funeral was filmed at the church at 155th and Broadway.
Sofia scares the heck out of me. She is fantastic, I'm not sure what she's going to do next
Now I'm worried she will find out Ma is alive.
@@scotthewitt258 I like how the first episode showed just how much effort he puts into keeping her hidden: be seen driving a very memorable car everywhere else; and then to see her he takes the train to the edge of town and then drives a nondescript old beater to her place. If Sophia _does_ find her, it’ll really help to sell the level of dedication it took to track her down.
@@sleeper-cassie Yeah. He goes out of his way to keep her hidden. A scorned Sofia might very well be the only person who COULD find her if she finds out.
The ending with Sofia talking to oz. My God show is so good. She’s great!
This show is going to get absolutely buried in a cavalcade of awards. Farrell is incredible as the penguin, but Cristin Milioti is the true star of the show for me personally. Absolutely incendiary television.
Cristin is playing unhinged so well. I agree with everything you said.
That stabbing in the basement was so squishy. Just the sound effects made my chest hurt.
I can't believe IGN gave this show a 5/10.... This is so good
Well it IS IGN. They've never been known for having good eyes for film and television. Hell, even most of their video game reviews (which is supposed to be their bread and butter) are controversial. I wouldn't put any stock in IGN reviews lol.
As Jay would say........"In case you're wondering if shit rocks, shit rocks."
Too much water
Don't listen to IGN or any website who give this show or any shows without the full pack. Seriously, what the F, IGN.
I am so incredibly attracted to and simultaneously terrified of Cristin Milioti as Sofia every time she's on screen...
She's mesmerizing.
And that last shot of them closing the door on Sophia is right out of the Godfather.
They call him "Penguin" because the brace he has to wear for his clubfoot and the clubfoot itself causes him to walk with a waddling motion.
the big compliant I heard about ep 1 was that everything seemed to just work out for Oz in that episode even some of his plans were wild as hell and I love that this ep immediately disproved that by showing how many of his plans go sideways the second anyone else got involved. It proves he's not a fortune teller who can just get away with whatever but that the show has stakes and Oz isn't invincible. He can be beat, but he might just be faster than his enemies to come out on top. I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
Guys... I'm guessing that if they call her the Hangman, and she's apparently killed 7 women.... She might have hanged those women, because of some trauma about her being hanged, which now gives her nightmares where she's scratching at her throat in a desperate attempt to free herself
Or, her dad tried to strangle her (like we’ve seen him do before) and she went down for his crimes? She’d be super traumatized after that and even more so after surviving Arkham
@unxprienced9548 after seeing episode 3 and hearing her talk about being glad he died (and the fact that Carmine was the one to send her to Arkham) I'm buying this a good bit more. Also as the mob boss's daughter, everyone she grew up around would presumably be way too scared to do anything to her, aside from Carmine himself
Also if it actually was Carmine commiting the crimes and she found out, Luca's line about her "having a nose for bullshit, your father knew that" makes a lot more sense
@unxprienced9548 after ep 4, you totally called it !
The script is 🤌
Sofia’s such a scary villain…and she hasn’t even done much yet. I love this show 😁
This show is fantastic. Sophia is so compelling. It's a gritty mob drama with hints of humor sprinkled in but it's menacing at the same time. Can't wait for the next episode. It's so good, you don't even need to see Batman. That's great storytelling. It works on every level.
"John Wick effect" - that's a great call. It's exactly what it is - it doesn't need to show her doing anything (although how she interacts with her meals is amazing) but how everyone acts around her tells a great story.
I was telling the delivery man at my work bro you gotta watch penguin it's legit approaching sopranos levels of good and he was like you're shitting me lol
It intrigues me how Sofia reacts everytime someone is scared of her. I'm calling it now: she's not the hangman killer, she's taking the fall for someone else, thing is who and why.
Or she's doing to other women what was done to her? But I like your theory. Makes sense
@@TikkiEXX probably it was Roberto. We're shown how much she loved him. Maybe she did the time in Arkham for him because he was supposed to be Carmine's succesor. And we're yet to see Carmine himself in the show, played by Mark Strong, which will obviously be flashbacks. I bet there's gonna be the answer to the mystery.
Could not agree more. I think she got framed for carmines's crimes, because we saw in the batman that he was uh. very liberal about strangling women. his own illegitmate daughter included. for all we know he laid hands on sofia too and that's why she has nightmares and claws at her own neck.
She’s the Hangman from the comics, would be interesting if they switched it up
@@dox8148 they're clearly not shy about switching things up tho-alberto isn't gonna be holiday killer anytime soon
I think he called him Penguin somewhat as an insult full nickname. Oz didn't seem to like it but went along with it.
Vic is so going to be Oz’s downfall. He’s loyal out of fear but fear only lasts so long and you can already see him looking for a way out.
Penguin is going to sacrifice both Vic and Sophia to achieve his goals. Villain arc complete. Bittersweet for him but he gets what he wants.
Sofia "the Hangman" Falcone hanged seven women.
That scene with penguin and vic digging the grave was peeeaaakk penguin coming through. So good. ‘Every GODDAMN TIME!”
that red light is Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Its used to deal with traumatic events.
13:20... When Jay Says.. Good,Good... Had Me Dying Laughing.... LMAO 🤣 🤣 🤣
"The Penguin seems like a decent guy."
Penguin plunges a knife into a guy's chest.
I love how they explain in the after show how the phrase "I'm not safe, I'm home" really means she is just in another kind of prison.
Issa race! I hope I win!
I haven't been into anything DC, movies or shows, but The Penguin is SO GOOD! Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti are killing it
Best show of the year, hands down.
RAT RACE reference 😂😂 “I’m winning, im winning”
Thanks, Jay! Thanks, Adam! 🐧
"He killed 2 people in this episode."
He killed like a dozen people in this episode. The entire heist job was his idea, and he took out about 5 people during that, himself, let alone the ones he killed by association. :D
5 dead bodies on Oz
I’ve wanted to ask this for weeks…
What is Adam growling after he says “react, review…”?
And yes, this show is everything! Better than expected for sure!
React, review, riff, and rate.
Funny story : it's a genetic mutation that allows people not to "taste soap". Your wife isn't a mutant. But you are.
14:41 so, i think he genuinely wanted to plant the knife on Johnny Viti here. but during the scuffle, you see the bodyguard grab his right arm, which is the arm that he hid the knife in the sleeve of. he had to improvise, and that put the bodyguard on the chopping block instead of Johnny.
or, as i’m thinking about it now, maybe planting it on Johnny would’ve been too suspicious, seeing as they just had a close-up scuffle? i think the fact that i don’t know is a testament to how fantastic this show is.
Shout out to shohre as a persian
It feels amazing to see another persian
Speaking farsi in an amazing series
youtube.com/@lllOmidlll I first saw her in House of Sand and Fog with Ben Kingsley and was mesmerised. Every performance I've seen of hers since reaches the same level of magic. She's amazing.
@@jollyrayda Yeah she is cool
I liked her voice acting as a cop in Arcane
X-Men and ther Punisher
@@lllOmidlll Whether you can see her or not, that voice is incredible 🙂
Am I the only one who feels like it really clear what Sofia did? She was a serial killer who killed 7 women. Is that not enough reason for people to be a little on edge around her?
Obviously. But why, how, who etc.
@@GlennShook I don't know, I guess the why how and who just don't matter that much to me. You tell me this lady has killed seven people and that's enough for me to get a little antsy
@@Osvetnik1138Most people in the Falcone family probably have a similar or higher body count.
10:22 what a deep cut well done 😂
11:25 I hope that was an “Olive Theory” reference
I want a new drug
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick
Thank you!!!
The shot where they close the door on Sophia, was clearly a "Godfather" reference... but in the film we see it from the outside perspective where kate sees herself get locked out, not only of the power Mike has earned, but the life she was hoping for. In this show we are on the inside of the office, meaning the family head locked himself out from Sophia's rise...
They are clearly indicating that Sophia is the real head of the family. And Oz, who had been trying since the fema truck heist to knock off her right hand man, is now in position to take over it all.
His car is a 2013 maserati with a body kit. Crazy nice
Sofia is officially my new crush 😂
Tony Soprano called....he loves this show too.
In the movie they call him the penguin so yeah they know him as the penguin in this world.
When there's a 'Rat Race' quote, it makes me happy.
🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧
Giving a thumbs up SOLELY for the Huey Lewis references.
The weird part for me is that I feel sorry for Sofia at the moment.
She came out of the asylum and, if her brother was alive, she'd probably be a happier person doing other things but now she just wants justice for her brother's death and it's messed her up more.
Also, has anyone else predicted the issue with the mother yet?... he gave her a big necklace from that same stolen batch of Jewels... Sofia is going to discover the mother alive AND recognise the necklace and that's NOT going to go well...
ALSO!! - In the Penguin Episode 2+ promo you see Sofia smash another girl's face against a table and if you slow it down, Sofia's face turns into a weird big mouth skeletor face with scars on it just after the other girl's head hits the table... or was that just me seeing things?
Anyway, great show!
Yeah. I'm a cilantro tastes like soap person
Fun fact. Cilantro filters fluoride from water...
James Madio has 2 super famous roles. Eric got 1. I'm betting the rest of us know the other.
I love this show and by the way I love the Huey Lewis drop!
I love this show so much. Ep 2 was just as good as Ep 1, if not better. And Sofia horrifies me.
Agatha 😆 pile of dog 💩
But the Penguin , absolutely incredible. great character development, incredible writers, fantastic cinematography and editing is excellent.
Jay at 16:27 makes me feel things🥵🥵🥵😈😈😈
Right, I know
Deadpool and wolverine is on streaming I can’t wait to see your reactions ❤
I love cilantro 🌿
Cristin Milioti! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
...I'm sorry, Adam, you've never had cilantro?!?! WHAT?!?! My Mexican food loving brain cannot comprehend this... Diversify your cuisine! LOL
Edit: I don't know if I'm reading too much into it or not, but I really strongly get the vibes that Sofia is either innocent of the whole murdering 7 women thing, or there was some reason for it beyond "she's crazy". The way she acts, especially around Lucca Falcone, it really feels like some horrible thing(s) was done to her prior to being put into Arkham. In a weird way I already feel sympathetic for her? Like, she clearly needs proper mental help to recover from the horrible treatment at Arkham (and not the care of a therapist who does the ole bear-hug-to-fix-a-panic-attack) and everyone around her is manipulating her constantly. And the way she reacted with the girl just doesn't fit the image of a cold-blooded serial killer to me... but who knows, we'll see soon enough what's up with her ig.
What does Adam eat lol. How have you never seen cilantro before. Is he a boiled chicken and plain ruce guy or something? Im so curious now lol.
Peanut butter sandwiches!
Would love to watch the the Patreon version, but as in the UK it's on a streaming service that has it's own adverts, it just a bit too complicated. Would not want to play poker with Oz, he's thinks on his feet too quickly..
Kinda interesting she only killed women. And you can tell a lot of the women were kind of scared of her in this episode. Wonder about her motivation. Maybe jealousy? I dunno
Every time it is through performances. Cristin as Sofía, terribly cautious and simple, and Colin as OZ, manipulative and playing a lot out of context.
While I like the switch up to Adam dropping some musical riffs...I'm afraid you're just too darn loud.
Quality joke
I hope HBO lets the writers/creators to keep doing their thing.
