Fun fact about the fox kids comic, if you take it as canon, this is the end of Cameron Winter's story. In the series itself he's last seen getting away with his crimes. In this comic, he seems to have died.

Allegedly, Dark Horse had ideas for a Godzilla vs Terminator and Godzilla vs Superman comics but Toho was firmly anti cross over with other ips
Why was Toho that against the idea?
The Terminator crossover would have went so extremely hard.
Funny anecdote: early on when I started doing conventions in Japan, I would get questions from Japanese fans about the “Skreeonk” as the sound effects weren’t always translated for the Japanese editions. They wanted to know how Americans pronounced it, and it was unique for them given that Godzilla’s roar was usually rendered as “Aann-gyaoooo” in various Godzilla manga.
Wasn’t the Dark Horse comic only recently officially released a few years ago in Japan? There might be an earlier release of some of the issues in a serialized magazine that I’m forgetting about. I wouldn’t be surprised if they found lots of scanlations or just individual pages online, too, though.
I’ve read most of the Japanese Godzilla comics, and I’m not sure that Godzilla had a standard roar. I think a lot of them went with the standby “gao” (such as the gag comic which was literally called “Gao Gao Ore Godzilla,” or “Roar Roar Me Godzilla”). I just tried flipping through some of my manga collections and found a few other versions, like Gaon or guwaooooo, but I didn’t see aan-gyao ああん〜ぎゃおおお, at least in the ones I checked. I often don’t pay close attention to the sound effects when reading manga, so there may be all sorts of variations. You just gave me an interesting idea for an article!
These comics came out when I was in elementary school and I carried them around in my backpack for days and days, reading them over and over again.
Ergo I really appreciated the juxtaposition of the Dark Horse run with the IDW run, specifically highlighting Rulers of Earth. These comics were massively influential on me as a kid and budding young artist, so I feel “seen” as the kids say!
I got to say the image of Godzilla bleeding from his mouth, nose and eyes is an amazing visual which I wish we'd see in a movie.
Kid me found that first Dark Horse comic kind of scary and disappointed there wasn't a big monster battle. Now I appreciate it way more for just how ugly that slug Godzilla is on the cover with stronger horror/disaster elements.
The 1987 cover art design for Godzilla is pretty underrated. Would love to see this in a Godzilla horror film. I mean I know Shin and Minus One have horror elements, but Shin as a film isn't really scary aside from the design and Minus One has tense moments, but it's not really bone-chilling all around.

Fantastic video man! I've collected most of these comics back in the day and I would have never imagined the abundance of Goji comics we would get in the future as a 90s kid lol. You're gonna love that Tiga one too, it was good especially the art. Great editing on Goji balling as well haha

The Tiga comic is actually a translation of a Hong Kong manhua iirc. Also man these Goji comics look like good fun as ya said.

Godzilla Dark Horse was my first comic book before I got into Marvel and DC. Great childhood.
So they got the rights to the Black Hole Aliens but not their monster servant ?
Even before "Godzilla Vs. Mecha-Godzilla" G-Force was called like that. It was just, that G-Force first got into the focus of the story in the 1993 film.

Apart from the Dark Horse Anniversary Special, the Charles Barkley story, and Hero Zero, I own all the issues of this run, including the colorized version of the first issue that was later released.
It’s my favorite Godzilla comic.
To me, it feels like a great adjacent series to the Heisei era. The stories don’t feel all that out of place with the movies that came out, and when a series manages to do some original monsters right, it’s always satisfying, this being no exception.
Really wish they would re-release this series in a more comprehensive trade format.

Now i want a reboot of godzilla vs barkley where after 100 years godzilla comes back and barkley is still alive and young because of the coin that kid gave him and then he uses the coin and then shouts brakleyyyyyyyy and then goes big and plays basketball with gojira I'm sure he will destory the big G this time oh and the coin is made an ultraman okey bye
I actually had one of the trade paperbacks that included the Hero Zero story when I was a kid. I always wondered where the character came from and if he ever did anything after this story. Kind of whack that his career all but ended here.
I don't know if they were connected, but there was a 90s Godzilla toy line that had a four person G-Force team too.
EDIT They were basically the Power Rangers who drove Mechagodzilla. : )

Honestly an underrated run of Godzilla comics. Color special was always a favorite of mine. Comics is a perfect medium for Godzilla. Charles Barkley as the enemy Godzilla fights in Minus One 2

I was exposed to the Dark Horse 90's Godzilla comics.....think I half read half skimmed through a couple,haven't looked at one since (LOL) not my cup of tea but I can see why some would enjoy them.
It would be suprise if there was a comic where lebron james is ultrajames vs godzilla
