      A great tip that i dont see mentioned enough is to just get outta there, if it gets so spicy that you cant clear everything before the next reinfocement just leave, take care of another objective, base or side obj, and come back by then most enemies are either spread out or dispawned, you can now have another try at it.

      @@reaperraider999 The thing is, it's not 1/6th or 1/4th. It used to be that solo players faced 2/3rds of the patrols of 4 players sticking together. Now they face the same amount.
      The thing is, the game considers players that are close enough to each other as if they were a single player. The scenario where you have that ratio between solo and 4-man is if they all scatter. Which isn't frequent.

      I don't want to always win, I just want to have fun while trying to win. Yet the person in charge of the balance changes seems to hate solo players and not understand how fun works. Specially given their past history with game development. (spoiler: it's terrible)

      Indeed “made patrol spawn rates in solo play proportional to those for teams” or something along those lines would have made thing clearer than the “increased solo spawn rates” we got. If you were under the impression they were already proportional, the latter might give the wrong impression.
      Then again I feel a lot of these are just knee jerk reactions based on theory crafting without trying it out what a change actually does.

    The problem is, on lower levels you dont get to see or fight the big guys, tanks, hulks, BT's etc and you cant get the samples you need...theres no other way to experience all the enemy types, or earn the rare/super samples unless you play on 7+ and not everyone has somebody online to play with daily so there needs to be some other way to earn the samples we need or they need to fix the game so that closing bugholes, takin down outposts and fabricators, and completing OBJ's weakens the enemies numbers so we have a fair chance at extracting without having to catch the emergency pelican after the timer runs out. They dont have to make 7+ easier, but it needs to be adjusted based on the number of Divers in the mission. Since the "patch" I cant extract a lvl 7 solo anymore. The more you do in a mission, the more aggressive and numerous the enemies become. More patrols, more heavies, etc. Call for extraction and you're done cause it sends 4 or 5 mobs of hell at one Diver -lol
    Playin with randoms these days is a shitshow with most of them not having a mic or if they do, they are in party chat or on discord, and the rest with mics are little mouthy punk squeakers with their mom in the background hollerin about cleaning their room or some shit. With no communication, u get clusterbombed, cant tell guys they are spread out too much and causing more patrols and spawns or that they have a swarm flanking...it just sucks...to be quite honest, playin solo is just as much fun or maybe more fun as playin with a full squad and they really need to adjust the game so those of us that aren't sweaty streamer no-lifers with no job or family that play games 12 or 14 hours a day can get our samples and enjoy ALL of the game instead of the big enemies and ship upgrades bn locked behind a difficulty that requires people to play with.

    As an old timey gamer, I would speculate the change in videogames from limited lives to unlimited tries is partly to blame.
    From Mario to Sonic, Earthworm Jim to Vectorman, we always had a limited number of lives/continues. Then somewhere in the late 90s (Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver I think?) the idea of never actually losing a game came about. The kids that only knew that growing up have a more difficult time accepting a limited number of reinforcements.
    I dunno, maybe I'm way off. Just my two cents.

    • @blehmeh9889
      @blehmeh9889 29 днів тому

      Fair, but there are numerous modern games that carried the concept of finite lives into the modern day.
      - In Call of Duty Zombies, dying ends the game, and playing again means restarting from round 1.
      - In Left 4 Dead and Payday 2, you can only be incapacitated a finite number of times before the next one sends you straight into death. However, this count can be reset if you use each game's premier but finite healing item.
      - In Counter Strike, you only get one life per round. Dying means you're spectating your teammates until the end of the round.
      - Many first person shooters have a popular gamemode where there's only one life per round.
      - Minecraft has an optional "hardcore" mode where you have one life, and if you die, you don't get to respawn.
      - Many Battle Royale games used to only allow you to live once per match, and have moved to a live system.
      All this being said, there's a lot of games where you get to try the same challenge again and again. Helldivers 2 is sort of unique because if you fail a mission, you never get to try it again because each mission is procedurally generated, and thus each mission is completely different, so you can't play the same old one again.

    So, some folks did a test (takibo and some others) which suggests that Arrowhead broke yet another feature trying to fix it. All group sizes seem to be dealing with full spawns; this means that by extract you’re dealing with a max of 1 patrol every 10 seconds; more likely, a patrol every 12-16 seconds. People are pulling solo helldives off, sure, but as a casual and chronic noob, I certainly noticed the change. For me, Terminids are just not possible to solo over difficulty 4, and I’m just scraping by on challenging automatons. Call me crazy, but I think 100% spawns is asking a bit much of the *average* small group or solo player. Again, this isn’t confirmed, but if true, is pretty shitty and could blow up in arrowhead’s face again.

      So currently I'm considering them to be bugged. There's no reason they would intentionally state a 1/4 increase then purposely turn it into a 4/4. Fumbling a 1/4 into a 4/4 however, they absolutely would. So, I'm now holding out all opinions on the matter until they fix it.

      often for not you cant avoid bug breaches like you can bots. Though the new aggro buff they got is quite bothersome. It would be really cool if they added silenced weapons would it not? Silenced weapons aren't fully silent. So in a set distance they couldn't be used. And if the goal is to pick off from a far I feel like divers should be allowed better usage of the map's terrain. Sometimes, these high surfaces feel like they're just there. Maybe that is just me lol.

  • @Satyxes

    While I agree with the video, I found myself thinking on the statement "one fourth of a four-person squad can handle one fourth of the enemy spawns of a four person squad".
    That is not entirely true. More squaddies are a force multiplier. More eyes to scope incoming, more diversity in loadout, more flexible respawn than the mandatory auto-drop, etc...
    This is not to deny that (as mainly a solo player at mid difficulty at most) the change in itself did little to harm my experience, but more a statement on why direct math isn't always the best way to approach these topics. If I was presented this question with no context, I would fundamentally disagree with the decision of Arrowhead - but knowing what I know, I'd say that a squad can handle more than the 100% used as a base from which a solo player receives 25%.
    A nitpick, to be sure, but wanted to get my thoughts out in case they might help someone reason through their objection to the change.

    • @John-ii6he
      @John-ii6he 28 днів тому

      eventually they'll need to add missions with genuine difficulty and not difficulty padding as they have so far. It is partially why solo is make it or break it for many people. The objectives aren't hard, its often for not the game's balancing that matters over the objective. If the game had or will get far harder actual objectives solo players can look at something that doesn't account for game balance. Thats all solo play talk really is about, how the game is balanced over how hard the game really is. Two incongruent things that line up to make difficulty as a whole.

    Had the best reminder today to be chill and not rage out. I died while working on an egg hatchery mission across the map from my team. They reinforced me across the map, not their fault for not knowing that I was working on one of the objectives. I got very upset and just got very immature about it. My normally muted mic was not muted unbeknownst to me. When I realized my whole team heard me piss and moan like a child, the embarrassment was immeasurable. At the end of the game, I apologized to my squad. Graciously, the other squad mate that had his mic on super cool and said it happens to the best of us. Note to self: calm down, it’s just a game. And might as well keep that mic on and use it constructively instead of being muted so I can get angry and talk to myself

    I do wonder if they just don't want people soloing - I do both and sometimes just like the challenge of solo.
    But on a simple level 3 just now (getting some credits) it wasn't difficult but it was tedious due to the constant stream of incoming patrols, and this is with clearing the nests before the main objectives.
    A challenge is fine and a lot of solo players do it for that and to test builds out.
    I can understand the devs wanting to make the higher levels harder for solo players, but there's that fine line between challenging and just annoying, when it's becoming a chore on the lower to mid range difficulties due to constant chained patrols.
    My point is, having hectic and calmer moments are good, the contrast so to speak, but it seems several updates are slowly moving away from that towards some forced way of bumping up the difficulty with the patrols.
    Still love the game, just slightly concerned in their approach to the difficulty tuning at times for solo/smaller groups.

Don't quite understand why some people are so nutty about it. My friends and I tend to play on 7 because its challenging but not mad. We occasionally do 8 and 9 but because of the intensity we generally don't do it all the time. Even if the numbers were correct and it was 1/4, solo vs duo, trio and 4 players is not linear. Even having 1 extra person watching your back is huge. It’s a synchronous vs asynchronous issue. Just like doing a task with 2 people vs 1 is not simply twice as fast.
    Having said that, the best players in the world who solo who can kill bots faster than anyone are getting non stop drop calls faster than they can eliminate. Something is off. The drops are happening more frequently than a 4 man.
    I’ve noticed this on difficulties as low as challenging solo where a bot drop happens twice straight up ignoring the supposed 1 minute cool down for drops that’s supposed to get.
    This is not a skill issue. I had no issues other than I what I observed.
    Now perhaps we had the opposite problem before where when it was supposedly 1/6 bot drops were not happening frequently enough.
    This isn’t really how many patrols problem as much as a bots / breaches are happening faster than they should be. Seemingly faster than 4 man. Or at least the same. If patrols are 1/4 the drop/breach CD needs to be longer for fewer players.

      @@JebblesJunior In the thick of it, it's really hard to determine what the problem is. From a player perspective it just feels more than a 1/6 -> 1/4 increase. Even if it is a drop/breach problem. I don't usually play Hell Dive solo, I play with a 4 man. But watching some people play solo live, it seems to be a whole lot more than what I get. But personally I've experienced it at the lower difficulties where I would quickly finish off enemies only for a drop ship to appear out of nowhere, never ending whereas before it didn't used to be this way. I forget the actual numbers, but a bot drop is only supposed to happen every minute or so, but it is happening for me faster than that. And localized confusion seems to be doing nothing to increase that cool down.

    Thank you! Helldive is THE hard difficulty, yet people want it to have only a moderate challenge where they're never overwhelmed or losing. OhDough in particular has been frustrating me with this kinda talk because he's a rather large creator that could influence the game. But Helldive is where it should be for solo. If anything, it doesn't need to be easier for solo, but rather harder in team-play. People don't want to lose, but losing makes winning better. That's why one would take on a real challenge. Whenever I'm up for that, I play Helldive. Normally though, I sit more comfortable at Suicide difficulty.
    However, I will say that the gap between Extreme and Suicideseems a bit to great and inconsistent. I feel Suicide is still a bit too hard for me on my off days, so I try Extreme. But due to the way patrols seem to path from the outside to your last known location, I've had Suicide missions where they all met me at once near mid-map and overwhelmed me but Extreme level missions where I barely had any fights. I did an evacuation on Extreme once where NO ENEMIES showed up at all! In the endgame, players have to be able to reach at least Suicide for super samples, but I'm sure some never will. Maybe that's intentional, and the upgrades are only meant for those who can.

The day of the patch I went into some low levels to try out some of the weapon changes and there wasn't a single point where there were less than three groups of enemies walking directly at me.

  • @John-ii6he
    @John-ii6he 28 днів тому

    Good points, you do a good job at going about the video. But as a solo player I would like to say that the frequency IS the issue.
    Arguably the amount before was too much: Ammo is kind of the key factor here.
    Some guns (most) cant take on large hoards anymore. The nerfs they do are quite bothersome. And sometimes strategems are lets say a temperamental system. Solo players often struggle because too much spawns right after a fire fight and the game doesn't have much relief to this. That in itself is a problem to solo play. As we see, many updates cater to solo players to pad difficulty in often for not negative changes in reception. Few AI changes have been praised.
    Worse off, is weapon changes. AI scales to the highest difficulty and more so to large parties. Weapons, barely preform at all.
    The two don't combine to a fun experience. And yes, you could go to lower difficulty. That is true. But not everyone wants to play at the same level forever, the game doesn't justify diversity in kit usage **enough** at high level. The frequency issue is its own thing, it would be fine if our tools weren't this stupidly limited. Unkind as that sounds, it is true. For solo players, these weapon nerfs make no sense at times.

    • @JebblesJunior
      @JebblesJunior  28 днів тому +1

      There's plenty of both weapons and stratagems for hoard clearing. Bugs are practically made of paper until you get to chargers. Even they can be taken out with a singular EAT, railcannon, railgun, autocannon to the rear etc. I will say bile titans pose a unique annoyance in that they move faster than you, slow you down, have a jacked-up hitbox and won't bleed out, but that's a bile titan issue.
      As for bots, find cover and aim for the enemy's weak spot. They move at a snail's pace and it's not difficult to clear should you have the ability. A laser cannon, autocannon, or AMR can take out all front facing enemies.
      Different weapon combinations can be used, take stalwart, stuns, and a scorcher for example.
      The point of high difficulty is to be difficult, and it's very possible if you put in the effort to improve.

    • @John-ii6he
      @John-ii6he 28 днів тому

      @@JebblesJunior bile titans have to be the weirdest case of the fact they don't like dying. Ive seen them tank two 500kgs, ive seen them tank more than one RCS before even. Chargers it certainly depends for the 500kg. I've met a charger who tanked a 500kg and was a very large pain in my side because a hoard spawned AGAIN and decided to spawn not one, but two chargers. Ahaha.. Six chargers back to back is never a fun way to go with a bug match.
      However-, you do prove my point. The fact very very few select weapons can engage a situation (Primary and stratagem.) is the problem. Variety as we have it, does not relate to viability. Weapons should be viable, and variable. Many stratagems CANNOT make up for that like the RCS, 500kg or air strike. It applies to the entire game, exception of armor.
      I'm sure we'll get some new armor passives one update, right-? weapons surely wont be the only thing being added haha.

    Level-headed take, my friend. While I do have issues with the way weapons and strategems are balanced (unique perspective, I know), I think people are just getting mad at any change that increases difficulty now, regardless of whether it’s a good one. I think people would’ve been much more receptive to this if they didn’t feel like every piece of equipment is slowly degrading into a pea-shooter. I want the higher difficulties to test me, but I do agree with the perspective that the attempt by arrowhead to prevent a meta is failing on its own terms, and creating a fallout in the form of all equipment feeling less fun. More enemies on max difficulty, though? Sure! Just please keep stealth even the tiniest bit viable and I’m down for that.
    Tbh though, I don’t care about that stuff nearly as much as all of the glaring technical issues. For a game I enjoy largely for the immersion factor, man does that immersion get shattered pretty frequently 🤕

    I like the patrol changes for the most part. I play diff 7 solo most of the time and drop to 4-6 if I want to relax. The patrol spawns increasing before major objective completion are somewhat noticeable, but it feels reasonable. I'm also no longer getting empty extracts after the increase to patrols. These changes are good and make sense to me.
    The part that I don't like is how much spawns increase after main objective completion. Even on diff 4, I feel like it's not worth it to stick around and grab POIs/side objectives because 2/3 patrols will be headed towards you almost all the time. (Have almost never seen Hulks patrolling on diff 4 until this update, now I'll see them pretty much every time after main obj completion if I decide to stick around). It feels like a very obscured difficulty mechanic. I wish they would just plainly spell it out.
    I'm still able to do diff 7, but I have to make sure that I get everything I want done on the map completed before I head for the main objective. If I try to do anything after the main objective, it feels like there are constantly 3 patrols headed my way while I take 50 years to load SEAF artillery shells.
    I think the spawn changes are good for the most part, leave the current rates as they are for pre-mission completion and during extract, and then slightly tone down patrols when you're just roaming the map after the main objective is complete and they would be perfect imho.

    No. Wrong. It is not 1/4 effectively. Watch Luch’s videos on this. What they did was change the spawn interval to 2:45 nominally for all squad sizes when before it was 4:05 for solo on diff 4. Now, if you have a team of four and they each split up to being more than 75 m away from each other, they will get a patrol spawn each every 2:45 interval. But if they’re all together, they will only get one spawn. So unless you’re getting a squad that is hardcore lone wolfing the entire mission, the amount of enemies per diver is now higher the smaller your squad is. This is not the 1/6 to 1/4 change that the patch notes conveyed. The spawn rate is now 100% for each individual diver.

    thats only true if you DONT want to progress through the game solo. as someone who does not like playing high diff with randoms and whos friends are usually (like myself) caught up with IRL matters, i cant progress because in order to do so i need super samples and they are ONLY at diff 7 and higher which are not that much harder to solo. and because of said IRL matters, i cant commit the time required to "get gud" enough to consistently solo diff 7+
    if they want to make this change, they should have super samples spawn at diff 4+ BUT only have ONE per mission spawn at diff 4-5-6 and then 3 for diff 7 and so on. that way you cant just easy grind super samples at the lower diffs because you only get one per mission (and even at the lower diffs the super sample mound thing still spawns it just doesnt have anything to collect)
    if i want to solo grind HD2 then i should be able to do so as me solo playing this game does NOT negatively affect ANYONE else. the game CAN pander to solo players without taking away anything from team players, let me get a single super sample at lower diffs and let me slowly grind out ship upgrades.

    But I wanna play helldive solo and have it be a walk in the park so I can be worshipped! I mean why should I be forced to have my guard up every single second of a 40 minute game that I chose on a difficulty that’s literally called FUCKING HELLDIVE that I chose! It’s not fair! 😡
    Buff all the guns! Buff all the stratagems! Nerf the spore spewer so it can once again be mindless point and shoot with any weapon free side object so I don’t have to actually use my brain because there’s already too much going on in the difficulty called FUCKING HELLDIVE!! 😡

    The game IS broken for solo, balancing wise on the automaton front there is no reason to not take specific stratagem weapons, there is a meta not because a few weapons are too strong, but because the others are too shit now to take them since the addition of gunships some weapons you can take for solo, but you can expect to suffer a lot, such as the HMG
    On patrols, the spawn rates are definetly broken
    Alert states for enemies are also broken, soft alert is a state in which enemies get infinite sight range, if there is a single frame where there is a direct line of sight, no matter the distance they will shoot at you, and this bug has been in the game for too dqmn long.
    I have been doing solo Haz9 since the second warbond was added and i still do it, so i can definetly tell you how the game has changed for the worse

    I think you don't get it, because you're an amazing player who can do a lvl 9 solo even after the changes. Most of us are not that way. A lot of people play higher difficulties solo not so for challenge, but for a sense of accomplishment. For the bragging rights, to be able to say that I did lvl 7-8-9 solo. Nonlinear difficulty progression aside (which really should be the main argument against increasing solo difficulty), the changes are taking away that sense of accomplishment from a lot of us. I've been able to do lvl 6 solo and was practicing to be able to go to level 7. Now I'm back to level 5, and I don't feel like I'm progressing at all. So, when you're saying the whole "turn down the difficulty" spiel, and that "there's nothing wrong with it", I think you're being facetious. Like beautiful people saying "beauty doesn't matter," and rich people saying "money doesn't matter".

      I think you don't understand. If there's no difficulty, there's no bragging rights. You said it yourself, it's still possible if you're good enough. You have to succeed through effort.

      @@JebblesJunior It was difficult enough before, otherwise people would not have bragged about it. Now it just feels like moving the goal post. And for a lot of people who were 'almost there' it feels like a big screw-you in the face, with the end goal yanked from right in front of their face. "You just need to work harder". Again, just because you didn't feel like it was a big deal, doesn't mean it's the same for other people.

      @@Observer29830 To you it was difficult. To others it wasn't. In the end it's still very possible to do. That means anyone can do it eventually. It's a matter of effort put in. It's not like the people who can were gifted the ability, they worked for it.

      Giftedness plays an important part people like to pretend does not exist. What I'm saying is that you and guys like you are an outlier, not the main demographic. And I wish balance decisions were made with the main demographic in mind, rather than the top 1%. This isn't cybersport.

    The numbers might make sense, but the game feels worse.

    Ahhh yes. I for one would love for them to make difficultly 9 on a game meant for a team of 4 to be dumbed down just so I can play a proportionally easier version of the game just so I can say I solo helldive. I mean why not? It’s too hard!
    Silly devs. Why can’t you dummies at arrowhead just see that making a LIVE SERVICE game (meaning a game that you plan on keeping alive and interesting for years to come) stupidly easy 3 months into its life thus making anyone with over 100 hours in the game pretty much beat every mission every single time no issue with op weapons (it’s pve no nerfs only buffs ☝️🤓) is the best decision for my eg- I mean for the game!

    You kinda ignoring the fact that Solo Helldive used to be pretty challenging, fair, and fun before the Spawn Rate change. Now you get an Extract Patrol EVERY 12 to 20 seconds that can call in reinforcements every 3 minutes. Imagine dealing with a full Hulk or Charger / Titan Patrol every 12 to 20 seconds SOLO. You are arguing for Group Play while dismissing the people who just want a fair and reasonable challenge on Solo Helldive, for them it's like mastering Dark Souls with a Naked Character. Before the Spawn Change that was a fair and reasonable challenge. Now it's just a shit show with mass Patrol Spawns you can never defeat in 12 to 20 seconds before the next wave appears.

      Two things. One, the spawn rates are bugged so hold out for a minute until those are put back into place. Second, I felt like solo helldive didn't bring enough challenge to the table half the time. You could walk by every patrol and if they saw you, it was maybe a 15 second interchange of bullets until they were all gone.

    If you can't solo a full mission set don't play that level. Get gud or sideline complaints.

    To many people are simply to proud to admit defeat and drop the difficulty. That is their problem.

    Not even gonna finish, i disagree entirely. Patrol rates need to go down on Challenging, it shouldnt feel like a Hard mission. Too big of a difficulty jump.
    Love your videos, hoping we can get some more mission debriefing ones again or however you would describe them
