I was very blessed to have acquired a '62 Bandmaster that sounds pretty much like this. Great amp and preamp tube trem, not power tubes! Wonderful sound.
Hey, great tone! I got a 61 tremolux. Got it with V1 pulled out, but I'm confused about the PI. The sticker inside says; 7025,7025,12AX7, 12AX7, 6L6GC, 6L6GC, GZ34... which one should I be replacing and with what to get the break up at lower volumes? Thanks!
Amazing sound!! Im not very familiar with the tremolux amp but regarding speakers it sounds like a cross between a C12K and an EVM 12L to me... but with less treble overall. Do you share that perception? Cheers,
Not sure if this thread is still active. I recently bought a '63 Blonde Tremolux. It's the 6L6 6G9-B Circuit. Could you explain what you mean by "(V1 pulled and PI tube replaced)"? I assume you mean you pulled one of the preamp tubes and replaced one of the power tubes, but don't know which one you pulled and what you used as a replacement tube. Sorry, I'm kind of new at this. Absolutely in love with the amp, though!!
Harvey Becker First preamp is V1. PI is phase inverter. Last preamp tube before the output tubes. I don't really like pulling tubes though. If you want early breakup get a champ. Blonde Tremolux's breakup plenty early on their own.
Harvey Becker Sorry for late response. See fenderguru.com for better explanation of these tube mods. These tube mods are explained for all blackface dual channel amps. Works similar for this tremolux.
I did this with a Super Reverb and found it to be of no use whatsoever ... Besides, the NORMAL channel is always the best-sounding channel on most any handwired Fender amp.
Every amp on the planet ought to sound JUST like this. Good grief. If I get one, will you guys come to my house and fix it the way it's SUPPOSED to be??!!
i have an original 1961 tremolux blonde ser# 00129 ... (29th made on the line) ... all original tubes, caps, plug etc.. good condition, sound (?), afraid to really use it due to the age of the caps ... not sure if i should replace caps or keep it as is how much is it worth ?
+michael Woods i have many other amps from which to choose so playing this one isn't manditory .. i am leaning towards keeping it in its' current condition altho' i have met an amp tech who is able to produce caps that appear to be original on the outside but have modern guts ... or maybe someone will pony up some big bucks and take it out of my possession ... offers ?
I just found the information on the Fenderguru website (fenderguru.com/amps/tremolux). However, it appears to focus on the black face circuit (AA763). Does anyone know if I can apply the same tube mods on my 6G9-B Tremolux?
Awesome! Thanks so much for the quick response. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right. So, here is what I'm going to try: 1) Pull out the V1 preamp tube. That should be a 12AX7. 2) Replace the 12AT7 preamp tube with a 12AX7 Does that sound right? Did you change out your rectifier tube? Fenderguru mentions a 5U4GB. Anything else? Also, someone swapped out the speakers somewhere along the line. I'm not in love with them. Any suggestions for replacement speakers? Thanks for sharing.
I am speechless. What great strat tone.
I just LOVE what you guys do. Love to be able to make a living working with the vintage amps and guitars that are my life's blood

Awesome bro, what pickups? Are those Fralins?
The Tremolux, does it have 6L6's or is it that rare one with 6BQ5's? What is the model number, 6G9 or 6G9-A? Thanks

do you plan on ever playing it? if so you should replace the electrolytics.

I think most any amp tech would tell a serious player of this amp to change the caps.

Thanks, Jensmo! Really appreciate it.
One more stupid question. Do I need to rebias after I make the mods? I'm assuming the answer is 'yes'.
Super. Thanks.
