    I got a chance to see the Kudoke 1 and 2 in person at the Watchbuys Roadshow in NYC back in the December. The Kudoke 2 was one of the main reasons why I went. Stunning watch.

    Bill, so pleasantly surprised for your video about Kudoke. I was similarly drawn to the Kudoke 2 and now working on obtaining one later this year with a few personal touches. The watchmaker and his business partner/wife seem like lovely people. Keep the great videos coming!

      @@watchartsci Bill, your new H. Moser is stunning, congrats! For the Kudoke 2, I'm just planning on a different dial color and skeletonizing the bridge plate--since it's in Kudoke's wheelhouse and what he was best known for prior to the GPHG, why not? And I have you to thank in no small measure. As a novice collector, it was watching your videos that encouraged me to reach out to watchmakers whom I'd like to get to know and work with (budget permitting). Kudos to you, Bill. Enjoy your new watch in good health and fair weather!

    Great vid Bill. These sure are works of art. I like the more traditional dress watch with the Kaliber 1 movement because I am a sucker for a hand wind movement. Even though the prices are more than I can afford they really are not as much as I would think that craftmanship of this caliber "no pun intended" would cost. Thanks again Bill for these nice 5 minute tidbits of great content. Brian.

    Bill, I think the Kudoke 1 and Kudoke 2 use the Habring2 A11 with Kudoke enhancements and embellishments. The A11 is highly serviceable because it is modeled on one of the ETA movements that lapses into the public domain and for the further reason that Habring2 goes out of their way to make sure that their in-house movements can be serviced anywhere in the world where there is a competent watchmaker. The part of Kudoke’s watch output that still interest me are his skeltonized and elaborately decorated ETA movements which I call pictorials with the face of the watch essentially telling a story or at least a visual narrative. One reference is called Black Beauty and another is Oktopus. These are pretty amazing works of horological art and run from about $5500 to $10,000. I would be keen to own one. You can see them on the Watchbuys website or on Martin Pulli’s website. Cheers.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  4 роки тому

      Howard, I don't think Kudoke used an A11 and called it "Kaliber 1." The Harbrings have won too many GPHG awards for the judges to be unfamiliar with the A11 called by another name, and I doubt that he would have won the Petite Aiguille Prize were he to use the A11 and not an original movement. As for the ETA "modeling," the main aspects of ETAs that are used are the dimensions so that watchmakers can use the movement simply swapping it in where an ETA used to go. Martin Pulli is where I got my Felix ... great guy. Cheers, Bill

      @@watchartsci hi Bill, Stefan Kudoke himself says the Kaliber 1 is based on a Habring movement. Maybe it's just the base plate or pin locations?

      On the treadmill. Looked at sjxwatches.com 2018 0302 The story covers Kudoke’s. new movement and states it shares component parts in common with the A11. This suggests to me that his base is the A11 with enhancements.

    Very artistic, but very germanic deign. I really like his watches definitely a name to look for in the future.
    What do you think is the biggest issue with small watchmakers that hand made watches, is it the fear that the service would be challenging in the future?

      This is an important concern and drawback of small indies. Kudoke, for their part, are building a for sales and service network. For instance, US customers can have their Kudoke serviced at RGM.

    There’s something odd about this movement and what it is based on. According to him it’s based on some old English pocket watch movement ( mimicking or inspiration ). But there are many similarities with Habring2 A11 movement which was based on Valjour 7550 due to various logical explanation the habring2 couple had. Kudoke is putting more effort on polishing and engraving than inventing or creating movements. Could be due to high costs of movement creation and years of hard work and budget. He hasn’t been that clear about he movements. I know for skeletons he uses ETA 6XXX like Berzinger but don’t know ETA supplies parts or movements to them anymore.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  3 роки тому

      Hi Amatrice, the A11 is a bit more complex than just "based on the Valjoux 7750." [not 7550] The wheelwork was 7750-based, but as the A11 evolved, there wasn't a lot left of the Valjoux even though the origins were certainly from that wheelwork, but not the escapement, hairspring/balance and the keyless works. It appears as though the Habrings have adopted an établissage system based on a certain area of Austria, Germany and Switzerland (D=Deuchland; A= Austria; CH=Switzerland-"DACH region") That same system is used by Daniel Roth making these fabulous [and expensive] watches in Switzerland. Re-read this section by Richard Habring and that will give you a better idea. www.habring2.com/index.php/en/294-faqs1/495-what-s-the-story-behind-the-a11. Take care and be safe, Bill 😷

    • @AmatriceBand
      @AmatriceBand 3 роки тому

      @@watchartsci Hi Bill. You are correct. I was trying to point out that their idea was based on having a movement similar to Valjour at the beginning for parts replacement as ETA wasn't going to supply them anymore to them ( according to his presentation at the HSNY). I wish Kudoke had explained his movement and what exactly is different and where the parts are coming from in detail rather than just talking about polishing and engraving in his presentation video. Unless there's a document or presentation somewhere that i'm not aware of. Dornbluth and sohn has grabbed my attention a lot more than Kudoke.
