The fact her mother turned on her is fucking awful but it's actually very common. Many people who get assaulted by their father/father figure and try and confess that horrid thing to their mom very often are shunned and kicked out

Well as we see in the Manga Saki's father remarks about how she looks like her mom from when she was Saki's age (16) and along with how old he looks compared to Saki's mother it's easy to guess Saki's mother might've been groomed. Like, when she was 16 I'm assuming the father at least knew her or how else would he make that connection and he would've been in his 20s or maybe a bit less/more. Also, supposedly, grooming victims that have children with their abuser tend to feel jealousy towards the kids and their bond with the abuser but I don't know it's truth because I read it on the subreddit.

My whole life people have wanted to show me affection and care and I've always rejected them, convinced the hatred I have for my features and face were the way everyone feels about me too. Just to end up sitting alone and wondering why no one cares about me. Sometimes I have flashbacks of high school or earlier moments of my life and realize such or such person talking to me out of the blue was them geniunly wanting to interract with me and befriend me. I assumed I annoyed them as much as their presence would annoy me. This is the thing about me and so many other humans. I think the worst part of this manga is that it's semi-realistic. Sure, a lot of things have been blown over-the-top and hyperbole. But the synopsis of a shy schoolgirl with potential slowly spiralling down this rabbit hole into what she is at the end of the book can and already did happen in this world. When I found out that Saki recovered and had a kid.

The story still haunts me because there are so many points at which the destructive spiral could have been halted if Saki had just bumped into one person who genuinely cared for her wellbeing enough to help her get back on her feet, but instead she was horribly betrayed by everyone who should normally have taken care of her. No previous piece of fiction has ever made me nearly so desperate to reach through my monitor to rescue a character, which I figure is exactly what the author was going for. It genuinely made me fearful of standing idly by when someone really needs help.
The only other story that made me even more desperate to rescue a character was Mii Inside the Box, but that one isn't as well written, and it's way, WAY more revolting. That one left me with cursed images burned onto my retinas, smouldering rage, and an urge to donate large sums of money to charity so that I might find peace once again.

After reading Metamorphosis a huge take away I had wasn't how Saki should have been vulnerable and put herself out there, it reminds me of my own story to some degree. I just wanted to be a kind person. A loving person. And I was forced into a lot of things because I never really had a chance to develop my voice and there's a lot of messed up people out there. It's true, I thought I was lesser, I thought I was boring, but that started somewhere. Somewhere at home. She was just a kid too. Looking for acceptance isn't wrong, trying to find your crowd isn't wrong. Someone took advantage of her trying to figure herself out, and it kept happening again and again. She was just young and being gaslit and forced until it was too late. I see the girl with the glasses in the mirror, and I hate how I can never go back to being that kind selfless girl anymore. I don't blame myself. I don't blame Saki. I thankfully didn't get as deep into the same issues as Saki, I never sold myself... but I have a lot of issues with PTSD. I still am just sort of waiting to not be here anymore because I just feel so broken... I hope more people look at this story and see the circumstances around her as the problem.

I think something that makes this story in particular so shocking and very important is that it exists as a complete subversion of many shitty hentai tropes. Where something in some other hentai would be a main working premise, would be fetishized and sexualized, in Emergence it walks through what it's really like. In reality, Emergence is much closer to what would really happen to someone who experiences the things many write in hentai.

    • @chaoticenbybard6699

Emergence isn't a hentai though . It's just an 18+ manga the author I think chose that medium for its lack of censorship to bring us this story. That being said hentai isn't always supposed to be intellectual, it's a fantasy, sexual taboo fantasies are common so hentai authors market those ideas. So what are you talking about.

    • @majoraswrath6182
      @majoraswrath6182 Рік тому +129

@chaoticenbybard6699 The UA-camr literally described it as a hentai in the video. I don't really study hentai, so I took his word for it.
Regardless of whether or not it is fantasy I would still say there is a reason even certain fantasies are still regulated. If one gets off to rape, regardless of real or not, that isn't something I would say is healthy. ASSUMING, that this was a hentai, and acknowledging that rape and sexual abuse is so common in them to the point of being a joke by many, a story which actually shows the ramifications of that type of abuse in a world where the story usually ends without doing so is a subversion of the usual fetishizing. And I think that is interesting and valuable because it encourages people to reflect on what it is we're really looking at.
My point is this particular story is unique and interesting because it is meant to be thought provoking.

However, morbid curiosity took over and I HAD to see how it all ended. Mainly because I felt bad for her and I was once that person who just- wanted to fit in. Have that acceptance and even know I struggle with some of the same personal issues as Saki. I went from disgusted, sad, angry, worried and going through a lot more emotions. I GENUINELY though the moment with her daughter mean someone DID call for help. That one of those horrid people that beat her at the end realized what they did and called for help. Or that maybe the man called for help/ someone to at least move her away, thus seeing her condition and calling for help. When the glasses appeared I broke down sobbing.

While this entire series is explicit in nature, I've always thought of it as an actual manga with explicit activities strewn throughout it than an explicit series meant for people to get their kicks out of. This whole series devastated me when I first read it and the fact that the creator went back and made a "haha hey guys it's all just a movie nobody is actually hurt!" ending kinda goes to show just how brutal this was. There's a lot of fucked up stuff out there in terms of NSFW, from Asanagi's more extreme works to the guro and snuff categories that are seemingly only there for the most depraved, but 177013 really, really REALLY sticks out due to how hard the impact hit. A third impact, if you will.

when I lived in inner city baltimore, my husband and I met a homeless woman with one arm. we would let her into our home on cold nights and give her what little money we could to help her get by. She told us about how she loved animals and she was going to veterinary school when she got SA'd, and everything went downhill. It broke my heart, but there wasn't much we could do for her. she kept asking for more and more money, and it came to a point where we could not give her any more money. We were late on rent as it was, but we could still share our food and bathroom. several incidents happened where she'd scream and cry and tell us she was going to kill herself if we would not give her money. I knew it was because she needed her fix, but I didn't want us to become homeless, too, So I had to tell her to leave, and never come back. As she left, she told told us we were killing her, that we had "so much" (We were behind on our rent in our tiny inner-city slum apartment, but it was much more than she had) and were being selfish.
She really didn't come back, and I worried for so long... *what if* but a year later, I saw her on the streets, hugging a woman who was giving her money and I breathed a sigh of relief. At least it didn't get any worse for her.

Fun fact: There's a page drawn by the artist where Saki comes into a room, blonde and tan, to film the story of Emergence. She comments on how she hasn't had her hair black in a long time, having to dye it for the part. She's shown being instructed on how to snort the fake cocaine they were using for the production, and being checked on when she coughs from doing it wrong. She's being complimented on her, ahem, "happy adult fun time" facial expression. The Josuke ending is great of course, a heartwarming and inspiring refutation of all the cruelty that the story put her through, someone coming into her life for just a moment to show her that her kind heart is not misplaced and saving her from the pain she'd endured for so long. But I think that the "film" scene I just described is a bit more impactful to me, purely because it was drawn by the artist themselves. As if they were as horrified by what they had created as everyone else was, and so they decided to add a framing device to try to soften the blow. It feels like a sort of micro-redemption. I'm probably overthinking the intentions of the artist, I don't doubt that for a moment. It would've been better for everyone if the story had never been written of course, but I take comfort in the knowledge that it was, in the end, just a story. In-universe and out. Let's all do our best to make sure it *stays* as just a story. Be kind to people.

I think that's what breaks people the most, the fact that you have a big need to do something, anything, to help her out; to see her grow and be happy. But you can't, there's nothing you can do. You, like many other times, put yourself in a position in which you now see the girl being treated as an object.
But this is not for your satisfaction, not like beforehand, this is not that powerful warrior being attacked by a tentacle monster, an orc, a dragon. This is not that woman who has a long history of being the strongest creature out there, being subjected and humiliated to cater to your desire to feel strong; as you can subject this force of nature with the flip of a page.
This is a little girl. This is a fragile creature. This is all that's left when power is out the window. And you're not allowed to feel good about how powerful you now are.

Vanilla is the term for consensual and soft core hentai. You might like Seika Jogakuin kounin sao ojisan, it's about a man who becomes a gigolo for an all girl academy to pay off a money debt his old friend caused. It's consensual, but he does feel embarrassed about having to keep it a secret. The art is on another level, it's so pretty especially the hair and eyes, also it's one of the first x anime I've seen that knows what hips actually look like.

@@SairinEarthsea I might sound harsh here but- Consent is NOT vanilla. If it wasn't consensual it wasn't sex at all. And hard-core shouldn't always be hard to read. It always made me wonder why does so much porn include or even rely on the suffering of people, particularly people in discriminated against groups. Imagine being one of those people who is always the victim, trying to look for some hard-core porn to REALLY get down to, clicking on a random video and then seeing a video that can only be described as one-sided, rape, violent, torture porn, that could ONLY be hot to the aggressor (Thats the extreme in this case, but even the extreme is super common). Its even worse when it seems the media seems to ignore the violence and act like its just completely normal, business as usual. It hurts. It makes you feel SO unsafe, SO violated. Intersex people, trans people, AFAB people, disabled people, POC, etc, etc. Its...Just scary. It is SO easy to have heavy, or kinky, or violent (Love some sado/masochism) shit that could be hot to either party, is entirely consensual and doesn't censor itself. But as far as I know, its just not there...
TLDR: Consent isn't vanilla, its not sex without consent, hard-core shouldn't always be disturbing, the kinky shit is never realistic to real healthy kinky shit, and why is so much hentai an actual hate crime SOBS

This has always been interesting to me cos the author seems fully aware of what they are doing and what the implications of what happens to Saki are. And while it is sexualized due to being a Hentai, I cant help but wonder if its less of a fetish and more of the author taking a conventional and known medium to tell a story about the common tropes of loss of innocence, r*pe, manipulation etc that Hentai seems to be filled with and how they would realistically impact a real person. Usually, hentai readers seek out those tropes as an actual source of sexual gratification but in this doujin sex becomes less gratifying and way more disgusting, like, I cant see a normal person j*cking off to it. Maybe it is more of a meta-commentary cos idk if the story would have been as shocking if you remove all the sexualisation from it.

The josuke ending and the movie ending helped the pain of reading it but the canon true ending of it still haunts me.

@Boglárka Szabó The josuke ending is the ending where josuke from Jojo bizarre adventure sets time backward, and the movie ending was actually one the artist made and it was just that the entire thing was just a movie and the girl was an actress

So i understand the movie ending but can you give me a little more detail about the first one. Sorry, any plot that messes with the continuity of time tends to be a bit hard for me to comprehend.

@Boglárka Szabó so the first one was fanmade, and it revolves around a character from a popular anime jojos bizarre adventure and specifically a character in that anime has the ability to affect time becuase of some stand ability (I'm not too familiar with jojo so sorry) but that character essentially breaks into the emergence timeline to save the girl and resets time so she can start over

That was an amazing synopsis, and a great conclusion. You're completely right about the first person to reject her being herself. My parents used to run an addictions recovery ministry when I was younger. I would see some of the worst examples of the world chewing people up and spitting them out almost weekly. It was heartbreaking to see people make steady headway, just to lose it all over and over again. Very few times did we ever see full recovery, but those few times were worth it. Thank you for giving the subject matter the respect you did and highlighting her character.

I think stories like these matter so much because I think they’re real and should be told but it also makes me realize how much I take my life as is for granted. It makes me extremely saddened that stuff like this happens. What I’m saying is, count your blessings, and maybe even hug a loved one too when you get the chance.

Never in my life I tought I would spend more than 30 min watching a video explaining a fucking hentai, but here we are. You did it. You're probably my favorite youtuber at this point if you managed to make me do that. Congratulations, I guess...

I cant believe i just learned some Magic the Gathering basics from a video essay about hentai.
Fr tho, i felt myself shaking several times through the video. Ive heard about this manga before but never actually read it. I just cant bring myself to do it. The story is beyond sad, and it depresses me to think about happened to Saki. Thank you for this video, and how kind you were to Saki as a character

I've been especially curious about it because I unknowingly, at anime expo 2022, wanted to check out some 18 + panel and found out that it was the author of metamorphosis. My boyfriend didn't know anything about the manga so he was mentally scarred. I remember the author was talking about some weird shit about a girl fucking herself with a road safety cone... AGH

I read it when I was going through something. I threw up because it reminded me of things that happened to me. I ended up finishing it and cried because I felt bad for her. I wasn’t in as bad of a place as Saki was, and I’m relieved and saddened over that (saddened because she shouldn’t have to have gone through that and relieved because I probably would have made the same choices but I didn’t have to).
