I have to admit I wasn't sure about Roku at first. But we got the Ultra, and it's great. We have several of the free channels, and some of the paid. We also have Spectrum Streaming(w/ our internet) on ours, and get channels we used to get free w/ OTA. I definitely recommend the Ultra model, because it is a great way to get great programming w/ out the huge bill.
"...And get channels we used to get free w/ OTA"? What does 'w/ OTA' mean (and why would you assume that everyone knows what your abbreviations are)? I noticed you don't type out the word 'without' in your final sentence but this still doesn't clarify the earlier abbreviation. What is wrong with you? What is it about the word 'without' that is so special that you must abbreviate it? I notice too the (sic.) "(w/ our internet)" which could be a typographical error meant to be 'w/ out' (for 'without') or a correct abbreviation with the meaning 'with our internet' but because of your weirdo penchant for not typing out the whole of the word 'with', no one can possibly know. Your aversion to the words 'with' and 'without' seems particularly strange considering you *do* go to the lengths of using correct grammar and punctuation.
Best thing about roku no added apps that you can not delete like all the other company's have. You can have the menu the apps you want and only ones you want.
I liked the Premiere while it was around, because it was compatible with good remotes from other companies, and it worked at a distance from your modem. These days, I prefer a Hisense R8 Roku TV.
I have the Roku HD 4K HDR streaming stick. It sticks directly into an HDMI port on the TV. Great no cable to worry about. All I get is sound and the purple screen or HDCP Error Detected.
That is your cable. Try another quality HDMI and/or plug in different HDMI port on the back of the TV. I had the same problem with cheap cable and my ROKU displayed HDCP error. Since yours is Roky stick, I assumed it must be the port that gave the error message, try different port.
I bought a splitter that was shown on another channel. It cleared up the problem. I got an Apple TV for Christmas. Same problem. Had to run it through the splitter and it worked. I like the ROKU the best it is more user friendly The Apple remote sucks.
Hi 👋 found it very helpful to watch your utube video on Roku. I would like to ask some questions I have an RCA TV that's a few years old....is it compatible with Roku ultra? I want to watch a variety of sports, Amazon Prime...Netflix Disney plus and more TV shows and movies. Doable with this approach yes? Thank you Jon
Thank you so much for sharing this info. After watching, I would like to get the ultra for the Ethernet hookup but I'm not sure if it will work with my older 1080i plasma TV with 2 HDMI ports on the back. do you know if this will work?
Thank you, this was helpful. We are not very tech savvy and have older model everything, no smart TV (I don't know what it is except not a CRT lol!) so it sounds like the ultra is the way to go?
I'm looking at Roku on Amazon Black Friday 2024 sale prices. I'm wondering the Ultra- How easy is this "hard wiring"? Does the internet modem have to be near the TV and Roku? Since I'm 74, I may not be buying more TVs, but want the most for my money. I guess I'm leaning towards the Express 4K+, since I can get one for $24 right now. If I were to ditch my DISH Network, I wouldn't have a DVR, which I use frequently. Cutting the cord can be scary. Just sayin. Also, I'm considering a Roku here in the living room because this is my largest, and sadly, my oldest TV. And I just subscribed to Hulu and Disney+ for the Black Friday special , then found out my biggest tv doesn't have the APPS. Holy Cow!! LOL Thanks for this video!!
Just found your channel as a video was in my recommendions. Is there any reason to get an antenna other than local news if you have the network apps such as abc, cbs, etc? Thanks
I have a TCL Roku TV. Wish you had included a review of this. I have retired my other Roku Ultra. I wish Roku would make the fixed shortcut buttons reprogramable. The only one I use is Netflix. I have programmed 1 & 2.
Yes..if the ROKU is used with a second tv ( without a secondary cable box, you can download the apps, sign in with your cable provider, get all those channels at no extra cost). Older TVs ( not smart), great options - less on the cable bill.
The ethernet port is only 100mb/s, whereas using wireless, you can obtain +300mb/s for faster and better 4k viewing, unless Roku finally upgraded their ethernet port on the newest roku ultra. Someone please correct me if my info is outdated.
I live remotely with no cable available. I'm in process of buying best smart tv for my needs and want to purchase rocu product to best access tv channels. & free tv.
I want the Ultra, but I come across ultra Lt and just Ultra. What is the difference, and are there any hiccups in performance in any of these models? Any year you think is a better performer?
They're exactly the same, except for the remotes...the Ultra has the better voice remote and a USB plug; that's it. I bought a Ultra LT from Walmart, and it works perfectly. But the Ultra is better than the Ultra LT... that's why it's $20 more expensive.
Is there any significant difference between the Roku Express 2021 model and the 2022 version? Trying to decide if I should wait for new one when it is released mid month.
If I want to hardwire the router via ethernet to the Roku Ultra, it sounds like the router has to be right next to the TV since the Roku device has to also plug into the TV HDMI port. This won't work for me since the router is across the room from the TV. Running a long ethernet wire isn't feasible as it would run through the entire length of the room. So, does that mean I have to use wireless connection? If so, then there's no point in buying Roku Ultra.
But, if your TV (samsung smart tv) has all the streaming sites, Hulu, Prime, Netflix, etc., why would I need the Roku? But I do want get rid of my Cable TV. But with a zero tech savy senior, (also use VoIP landline thru cable) this just seems to add more complexity. We want all the local TV stations also.
Hi! My husband and I are trying out a Mohu indoor antenna and finding that we get all the local channels in 1080p, with very sharp picture with our 2015 samsung smart TV. We are still testing it out, while keeping the paired down Directv streaming app. We have heard about DVR's for OTA programing so we can record our local TV shows and have pause, rewind and fast forward. Wish us luck because it will save us, now retired, considerable expense over time. Hope this gets you started on your quest.
does anyone have a problem with your roku over heating? mine has plenty of ventilation but frequently I have to use my Firestick which I dont like because that makes movies really dark or TV shows like Hosue of Dragon I cant even see anything just the targarians white hairs
Roku is over with buying a budget 4k smart is the way to go they have lots of apps and free channels built in plus many have Chromecast and air play for casting
Have used Roku for YEARS! My issue with Roku are two, Wifi 6/7 not available, and the funky 10/100 ethernet jacks, really? With all the 4K (also 8K coming) content bandwidth is an issue. I use the latest 4K stick on two 4K tvs, also two 4660x Ultras, with a 4K and a 1080P lcd. The newest 4K stick has better wifi than the older Ultras in the set the furthest from my wifi 6 router, the Ultra sometimes dropped HDR due the lesser bandwidth, the 4K stick tests about 200MB with HDR no loss. Direct wired ethernet (tested on two "old" Ultras) tested at 94MB, worse than wifi.
Are any of these good options for getting my local channels (ABC,NBC, Fox and CBS) without needing to use an antenna ? Or any other OVA devices that I can get away with out having to get an antenna? Thank you so much!
I don’t recommend the roku hsn edition version because mine died in low power mode and and changed the batteries are a pain in the butt and will not connect at all to the internet a piece of junk
I have the Roku Express 4K+. I'm considering upgrading to the Ultra because my Express tends to freeze up a lot when streaming certain apps (primarily ESPN). It's fixable by just power cycling it, but it gets annoying to have to do frequently. I just think the Express has a weaker processor and this is the cause of the frequent freeze ups. Does the Ultra have this problem? If not then I'll happily upgrade.

You explained very well exactly what i was trying to understand. Thank you
Thank you for sharing, Fantastic details!
Loved to buy a Roku whenever I get a Chance ☺️
Very good review. 👍

Thanks I have been wanting to know what one to buy for my old tv.
Great! Glad it helped.
thank you...I was lost but now I am found! Off to Geek Squad to install.
Do it yourself
Very informative. Do you have a video comparing these with the Roku Streambar models?
Great video! Very informative.

HDR is a different animal, HDMI port on set and cables matter! Once it works (and your set is decent) it is GREAT!

I would like to ask some questions
I have an RCA TV that's a few years old....is it compatible with Roku ultra? I want to watch a variety of sports, Amazon Prime...Netflix Disney plus and more TV shows and movies. Doable with this approach yes?

I received a Roku for Christmas from my nephew

I personally like the streaming stick.

It would help if ROKU, did an occasional, aka. “Update / Refresh”.
Are there any advantages at all in using a cable box such as Spectrum?
Good question. I would like to know this myself. Hopefully he'll get back with you ASAP.
Great question
Easier for old people

wish roku had some usb slots for a couple of bigt hard drives.

Didn’t know that, thanks for that info !
How about Roku Premiere? Could that be included in the comparison

Bro, there's a lost remote finder also on the unit itself.

Ultra has Dolby Atmos and Lt does not

Which roku will control my soundbar?
Roku 2 any good?
Did they fix the pause problem?
Thanks
My remote pro takes aa batteries. The headphones kill them fast
Does Roku work well with StarLink? Thinking about dropping Comcast.
Yes
does anyone have a problem with your roku over heating? mine has plenty of ventilation but frequently I have to use my Firestick which I dont like because that makes movies really dark or TV shows like Hosue of Dragon I cant even see anything just the targarians white hairs
What's your opinion on the 2022 Android 9.0 Monsterbox X1 Max.......
Not familiar.
Roku is over with buying a budget 4k smart is the way to go they have lots of apps and free channels built in plus many have Chromecast and air play for casting
watching thank you for sharing your video about smart streaming new friend from manang saring

Roku ultra keeps losing its connection with my att signal. Multiple times per week.

Why not just buy a antenna?
The streaming 4K sticks do not support Dolby Atmos. Don't know why reviewers keep saying that.
I don’t recommend the roku hsn edition version because mine died in low power mode and and changed the batteries are a pain in the butt and will not connect at all to the internet a piece of junk

I have the same issue with our fire stick. We have an old router, is yours older also? I wondering if this is part of our problem
I cannot get it to work. There is no for Roku, CBS, TNT, ABC ESPN
If you do more than one jump cut per sentence, your video should be deleted immediately.
I choose ethernet over wifi when I can. Always prefer a wired connection.
