I'd say you've done a really excellent job with this video. It makes my decision of which one to get for everyone else in the house a little more simple. I bought a Firestick on a whim awhile back & I'm just now starting to use it as I'm tired of paying out the butt for Comcast. I'm loving the Firestick as I have Amazon Prime, but I'll probably get the Roku for everyone else in the house. It seems more simplified & I know my mom wants her technology as simple as it can get. @@benjaminb.297 Sorry for a late reply. The firestick is a more powerful device with an android based operating system. That means its basically an android device like your phone or tablet and you can use android apps, while the roku is just a low-powered streaming device and you are limited to its "channels" or basic apps. I dont wanna go on a rant here so ill just suggest googling "what you can do with a firestick". Its all very easy and no you don't have to jailbreak it no matter what anyone says xD
I didn't get into streaming until May of 2020, I got a 4K Fire Stick, but next month I'm getting a new TCL 6 Series QLED & Mini-LED tv which features Roku.

Tara Beaudion I cut the cord about three weeks ago and went with the roku stick. This was a great choice for me. This review was good but not accurate. I have voice control and can find the weather and hundreds of free movies. I picked up the Philo channel as well and stream through roku for $20 month and get all the channels I watched on cable but now I save $100 a month. I did not go with the Amazon choice due to the Fire tablet I bought extremely limits me to Amazon products with way to many advertisements. I am a Amazon Prime user and their Channel (app) works perfectly on roku. Hope this helps from a happy roku users prospective.

I have both in my house. I got the Roku's especially because it has the Spectrum app, which the firestick natively doesn't. With the Spectrum app, I don't need any cable boxes to get Spectrum, so I save money on the box rentals and the electricity they use. Also, one thing to point out. The remote control on the Roku app can use voice searches even on the Rokus that do not provide a voice remote. Plus, the remote control, on the app interacts with Roku via WiFi instead of having to point at the screen.

Honestly a fire stick is why better than roku I'll never go back to any roku device again not to mention with the fire stick your viewing pleasure is endless unlike a roku device which limits your streaming choices

I have the Fire Stick, what you did not mention is that voice search will show what platforms it is showing. Also, the smartphone app will show you different apps as well as if you have more than one Fire Stick named LivingRoom and BedRoom I can choose between them.
I love the Roku stick. Private listening is the killer feature for me. I can watch the Roku in bed while my husband watches his tablet.
You can change and control your screensavers on the firestick as well. It gives you options to choose from or you can use your own photos.

I'm thinking about trying ROKU. I've had the original Firestick version for a few years now. I'm ok with it, but it needs maintenance. You have to clear the cache often and need to install updates on a regular basis. Once a year, I revert back to factory defaults, reload everything again, then it works great. I added KODI as most apps and Amazon movies are 'pay per view'. One big issue.... if you are a SPECTRUM subscriber, the SPECTRUM app does not work on the firestick, even though Amazon says it does.
I have both I use Roku more at work and firestick at home because I can sideload apk's as needed.
And the same question for the ROKU stick (OTA TV Channels) or connect to Tablo, Tivo or Channel Master DVR+ or Stream +)

I have both. I prefer the Roku format, I bought the firestick because they offered a deal last year around Superbowl and I got the Recast (I like recording on the OTA antenna) with the firestick.

Mike Studmuffin still doesn’t compare bud. You’re comparing things that aren’t even close to equal in quality. Some free apps that give you some decent, usually older content. Vs using an apk that basically lets you watch whatever you want. To each their own though 🤷♂️

Firestick runs on a modified android os like their tablets so you can sideload any apk that its powerful enough to run and it's powerful enough to run n64 and ps1 emulators. That alone makes it a million times better than roku, which is just a low powered streaming device only and limited to dumbed down "channels" that people seem to think are the same as apks. You cant even download and/or store media on roku so rip when your net dies. I could understand comparing firestick to mi box or some other low to mid range android box, but these two devices shouldn't be in the same conversation let alone the same price range.

@Lydia Smith Sounds like you just have an older generation firestick and could do with a newer version. Or maybe you have unwanted bloatware running in the background which is going to take up a lot of ram.
There's an easy fix - just search for techdoctoruk on youtube and look for the "SUPERCHARGE FIRESTICK" tutorial and you should be able to speed things up after that.
Also if you're WIFI strength is poor then you obviously need better internet speed and you should perhaps try it through ethernet.
It really comes down to preference. As a big prime user having the fire stick makes more sense. However if you mainly use other services like netflix ect them get the roku
My quandary was not wanting Amazon to have that much control like Google does on internet or Facebook controlling what they think the truth is. I'm still not sure but I think we will try Roku since we don't have any smart home devices like Alexa (another control entity).

I appreciate your efforts but your review is inaccurate. You do know Roku actually works with Alexa right? I am an Amazon prime member and also a happy Roku user. With the Roku, I don’t lose anything from Amazon, but with the Fire stick, I lose a neutral streaming platform and a lot of content. So I don’t really see why people would pick Fire TV over Roku. People can easily say go with Fire stick just for the Amazon ecosystem without realizing that you can get what Amazon offers with the Roku platform (prime video and Alexa are all available on the Roku).
Ping Feng Number 1 reason to go with the Amazon Fire TV Stick over the Roku Streaming Stick (I own both) is that the Fire Stick has a few VPN apps natively available for download and installation (any VPN can be installed). Roku has no VPN capability which renders it useless during international travel or for users outside of the USA. My Roku Streaming Stick is now in my retired obsolete gadget box in the basement.
Ping Feng what types of thinks have you do with Alexa on Roku? I am an Alexa user and considering these two devices right now.
You can sideload anything roku has and much more on the firestick. It runs on a modified android os so it's more like a legit android box and not limited to "channels"

I started out with the Amazon sticks and would never use them because interface was so slow. It was one step above using an original Nintendo Wii as a streaming device. I bought a Roku stick and it was night and day difference. I took all my Amazon streaming sticks put them up on eBay and replace them with Roku‘s. Now that I think about it I feel really bad for the people who bought those Amazon sticks from me because now they have to sell them to buy Roku‘s.
I love the Roku and I love that I can voice search and use my headphones to watch tv. Plus Roku has the keyboard on the remote how cool is that and more options to watch more movies and has more networks.
You can install full browsers on the firestick and download or sideload any streaming apk you want on it. Don't even really need the apps tho as you can just watch whatever you want on their websites in the browser like you can on a pc.
Can you use the app for multiple TVs?

Chinese video content watchers must get the fire stick. You can install the standard Android TV box app on the fire stick such as iQuiyi, Youku, Tencent, BilliBilli etc. Can't do that on a Roku.

You can do do so much more with a Firestick than you can with a Roku stick, you can enable apps from unknown sources with s FS and unlock a whole new world of streaming either for free or for a couple of $ a month, with a FS you can get IPTV which blows any cable/satellite service provider away and stream movies and TV shows for free or for a couple $ a month if you choose to integrate with Real Debrid
And Paul Bentley you are 100% incorrect, with a Firestick you have unlimited capabilities with anything you choose to watch, Roku is limited, just gotta know what your doing

I have used both however I currently have a Roma. The biggest difference between the 2 is Roma is much much easier to use. For someone who is new to streaming services, Romulo might be a better bet because it is much much easier to figure out. My friend has a fire stick and it was horrible trying to figure out how to add apps and search for videos

@@jakeperkins6725 The sad thing is ad`s aren't even a big deal in this. The hardware and firmware difference between the two is huge. To the point where you can barely consider the roku stick a smart tv device compared to the firestick. Which would be fine until you realize people are paying almost the same thing if not more for roku devices.
I prefer Roku only thing I use from Amazon is Amazon Prime which I downloaded to the Roku.
But you can install just about any apk on the firestick. It's pretty much a legit android box lol

I have both. One thing I do not like about Ruku and do like with the Firestick is: You can control the volume of your soundbar or soundsystem on the firestick. You can only control the volume on your TV with Roku. You cannot control the volume of your soundbar, etc on ROKU. I hope they can fix and update that with Roku. Was using Firesticks until we started using Xfinity Stream which only works with Roku. So we went and bought Rokus to replace the firesticks.

I think you missed one of the most important features on the firestick. Apps can be side loaded and with the correct configuration apps and media can be saved to external storage, in essence making the firestick capable of having storage of 2 TB or greater.
Most ppl in this comment section ignore that fact and just say as long as they have their netflix who cares u.u. Its sad. Its also funny to me that his firestick affiliate link died but the roku one is still up xD

Jay Dawg in theory I buy 3 roku sticks and I add channels would I have to pay like 3 times so that each roku has it or would I just pay say $20 a month and it is on all of them. Also I know this is a dumb question I can’t find anything though

We have a Roku Ultra and having trouble with the UA-cam Tv app. On-demand video occasionally locks up with black screen and you have to exit YTTV and reload YTTV and the video you were watching. This problem doesn't occur on our mobile apps and computers.
I have both of these and you are right if your into the Amazon world it is the better way to go. I don't have all of the listening devices in my home and only looked to upgrade 2 non-smart tvs. I do like being able to do and see more free content easely on the Roko where it feels like they make you fell cheap for not paying for all of the services on the Fire. I did note recently that 2 of the services I enjoyed the most on Roko are n9po longer available. Reuters News was the most important of them. Neather really let's you use the internet easily which would be a nice feature. I give the Roko a slight lead.
Fire stick has an app but we haven't been able to do the long directions on how to set it up where Roku is just you just need the Wi-Fi code

Yeah, you would need one for each tv. I highly suggest going with the firestick tho. He didn't mention the fact that the firestick runs on a modified android os and can run just about any apk via sideloading them from a pc or by using the free downloader app thats in the native app store. Roku is limited to it's streaming "channels"

Now just like with your phone streaming to your TV you can adjust the volume in a program so you would have to raise your TV up higher to control the remote through certain apps that come from your phone like UA-cam at least on the Roku device so I don't know how the Smart Stick remote controls the non-smart TV
Got a 4K firestick, was able to put kodi and other free movie/tv shows on it, can’t complain. Never owned a Roku though..only owned android boxes before, and the firestick kicks their ass if you know how to “use it” properly.
I was gonna get a firestick till I looked into both Roku and Firestick, I seen so many options more plus there is more channels Firestick and also you can use your phone to upload pictures and videos to your smartphone to Roku

What's better for home theatre, fire stick, or roku?
I've had Roku for a few years and it's been a solid performer, the device can be a bit sluggish but it worked with no problems, until recently. Audio and video going out of sync frequently on apps like Sling. Myself and others have been in the Roku forums looking for a solution but nothing.
Looking to upgrade and right now leaning towards getting a Fire Stick.
Firestick has a lot more versatility with streaming content from the internet which IMO is a big edge.
I have used both and much perfer firestick.

i see there are sevral things the fire can do that roku is not currently able to provide.
but the firestick is another tracking device the concern is the same for alexa,echo surveillance products

If tracking devices are an issue you should just go with a similarly priced Android box. I mean the only thing the firestick has going for it vs those is its convenient Android tv like interface that gets regular updates and hardware that is amazing for its price. It's really not fair to compare a firestick to a roku stick because the firestick is just way out of the rokus league in terms of hardware and what you can actually do with it. The messed up thing is they cost damn near the same during sale times, so I would never ever recommend roku over a firestick.

I went with TiVo Stream 4K. Love it, but they don’t have tennis channel. So now I’m trying to decide if I should get fire stick or roku. Another important factor is the design of the app. I like a simple and clean interface. Not a fan of the purple color of roku. But I can get used to it if it has some other good channels that fire stick doesn’t have.
I have 2 Roku’s in my house....I watch one and my son watches the other one. We really like what it offers and the ease of finding stuff! I have a friend that has a fire stick and when I go visit, her she enjoys that too! I don’t think you can go wrong with either one of these!

Roku 2018 doesn't have a Mute button on the remote, they added it to the 2019 remote. I own a 2018.

I went to the point we were talking about the pause button and the mute buttons and stuff of the remotes there's an app for your Roku device to turn your phone to be able to pause there is a delay to load the app or reload the app
