  • Welcome to HealthyKidney Inc. This video is about a food that improves kidney disease over the long term. This is a trending topic right now in the kidney disease community. Thanks for tuning in.
The foods we discuss in this video are soy products, specifically soy proteins as a replacement for animal proteins in conjunction with a low protein diet. Soy products have been proven to offer numerous benefits for chronic kidney disease patients, especially as a replacement for animal proteins.
Soy products offer a low-saturated fat, cholesterol-free meat replacement that is also a high quality protein. Among other benefits, soy was shown to significantly reduce SCR and serum phosphorus concentrations. Let's get deeper into the positive effects consuming soy based foods can have on chronic kidney disease.
Soy protein has been estimated to place less stress on the kidneys in comparison to other proteins and lowers serum creatinine and phosphorous levels. This is important because serum phosphorus levels are often elevated in CKD patients, which can lead to an assortment of further health issues. The protein from soy decreases phosphorus making it a good addition to a kidney diet. With kidney disease on the rise in America, this is important for people to know.
Some soy based foods include unfermented foods like tofu, soymilk, edamame, soy nuts and sprouts, while fermented soy products include miso, tempeh, natto and soy sauce. These days there are also soy based meats such as burgers, chicken nuggets, and other meats.
Other possible health benefits of soy foods include, lowered blood pressure, improvements to blood vessels, (such as greater elasticity of artery walls), improved bone health, protection against some cancers (including breast cancer), and increased cognitive function and visual memory. Consider adding soy proteins to your kidney diet, and to your best kidney health everyone.

Great stuff!! Thank you. I’m actually suffering from “MCD” (minimal change disease). Nothing worked for me except Tacrolimus. But I feel that drug is just a bandage to the problem. I’m told it’s curable, and with the tacrolimus my situation has improved significantly. You have any suggestions?

Thanks for the information. Always useful. Would you happen to know what a normal eGFR, creatinine and protein uria would be for a person with one kidney?

It's the same as a person with 2 kidneys.

@@HealthyKidneyInc Ok thank you. I've read that people with one kidney can expect 50 to 60 eGFR and higher creatinine and protein levels. I was born with just one.

But what if it's the fiber in Soy that reduces strain on kidneys. And meat alone doesn't have any. IDK the details abi. the study so I can't say exactly We're the participants divided into higher & lower fiber diets? We know fiber can reduce metabolic wastes and protein is protein regardless the source. Either source will result in the waste products. The significant diff being the fiber content consumed I have my meats (LPD) in a sort of soup/stew with some veggies & herbs (dandelion & nettle leaves) and include other fiber sources. But Soy doesn't particularly appeal to me as a significant protein source. A minor at best. If I have to have more plant sourced protein there's other low carb ones.
There's other low carb plant protein sources

Its way more than fiber. Soy has a variety of phytonutrients like genestein, isoflavones, etc.
