    Many years ago, we went to Leighton Buzzard with my oldest who was called Alice. Alice the Quarry Hunslet was at the back of the shed and I was told to come back at half past three, to find they’d got everything out and Alice was in the sunshine. Course, we have photos of Alice standing on Alice. A very friendly railway.

      Amazing, what wonderful gesture! I think Alice is at the Bala Lake Railway these days but what a fantastic memory to have! Thanks for watching 😃

    As a Leighton Buzzard resident of 9 years, I am very familiar with the LBNGR, I walk my dogs in Pages Park almost every day and have hundreds of photos and videos whenever they are passing. I still haven't been on it yet but did manage to walk the length to Stonehenge Works last November. (On a non running day). You have inspired me to get on and have a go. Now back to watching the modular build. 👍

      Awesome, I hope you enjoyed the video! It's a lovely line and.feels like it's retained it's original atmosphere of a working narrow gauge railway very well, especially with the new extension! Thanks for watching 😃

      It was certainly a great trip and something a bit different after all the standard gauge railways from the previous days. Thanks for watching 😃

    Brilliant little railway, those houses are the best place to live, it's great to see a narrow gauge running through the countryside and as well as that tight curve 😀

      You can always tell which house is interested in railways when you can see they have a garden railway too 😂 Thanks for watching 👍

    Looks good. The Laal Ratty in Cumbria is my favourite narrow guage

      Interesting, I always thought that Ravenglass & Eskdale was a miniature railway since it's 15' minimum gauge, same as the RHDR. Although I think the original railway that was there was a 3' narrow gauge line. Thanks for watching 👍

      Glad you've enjoyed the videos Dave, its certainly given me lots of ideas for what to include on the modular layout and the next series should be along very soon! Thanks for watching 😃

    🙂 Here in the US, having 'Distributed power' on a solid unit train of hoppers is a sign of serious railroading. 👍 It was in UK published books here in US public libraries in the late 1970s when the Leighton Buzzard was brought to my awareness. Have liked narrow gauge trains and UK trains ever since.

      Amazing, always nice to know that UK narrow gauge gets attention worldwide... usually it's the Welsh railways that most focus on but it's nice to see this line getting some well deserved attention too! Thanks for watching 😃

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy Welcome. Even though last month's new password, the van's license plate number, and what time our next creative writers group meeting is, escape memory, 3 narrow gauge railways, some approaching what might be called 'minimum gauge' from those couple books have stuck in memory for almost half a century, Leighton Buzzard; Lynton & Barnstaple; Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch. Why? And why those? Well, that is anyone's guess, my brain has consistently refused to share those data points with me. 🤣

    Very lovely video, That Model Railway Guy, like the others in the series. LB has been a favorite for years as meanders through neighbourhoods, behind houses and businesses and such. Wonderful detail and ambient shots. These "real world" videos are terrific.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Рік тому

      Yes it certainly has a real narrow gauge atmosphere to it as it winds it's way through the tight spaces. Even though it's not as long as railways such as the Ffestiniog or Welsh Highland Railway, it does take you on a proper journey as each end of the line feels very different to the other. Thanks for watching 😃

    Nice to see the little Baldwin in action! I think Bachmann actually make on in a similar livery to this one. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress you have made to the modular model railway, especially after your little tease in the short with the Rapido Hunslet! Keep up the great work! 😀

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Рік тому

      Yes I believe it's one of the weathered livery options they did at one point. I would like to get one for my little 009 suitcase layout but I don't think it would cope with the tight curves 😅
      Glad you're looking forward to the new series of modular model railway videos - there will be more news on that later this week! Thanks for watching 👍

    Does the Baldwin loco remind me of Stanley in the rws book that Wilbert awdry put in one of his books the same class with red paint that got turned into a generator or am I just seeing one of his brothers or sisters preserved on the Leighton buzzard railway

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Рік тому

      I have to admit I'm not an expert on the Railway Series but yes I think that Stanley was intended to be one of these Baldwin locos. It got a bit confused by the TV series who created the character Smudger which was basically just a repainted Rheneas due to budget constraints. Thanks for watching 😃

    I don't believe I've ever heard of a double track narrow gauge railway, they must be very busy! I do love those Baldwin tanks, they look so American but so British at the same time, it's almost weird. Great video, can't wait for the new modular railway episodes :)

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  Рік тому +1

      I don't think it's common for narrow gauge railways. I imagine if a narrow gauge line had the space for double track then it would most likely be better served as a standard gauge line. I imagine the LBR is a bit of an outlier in this instance. Thanks for watching 😃

      We have double track mainline here in NZ. And cause it's 3ft 6 it's technically double track narrow gauge.

      There was a plan at one point to double the Ffestiniog track, but they ended up doubling the locos instead!
