I did it a bit backwards but thankfully didn't get far. My 3000 slim has a 160gb and I followed the video for hen/mm etc and got cracked isos running, but quickly realized more space would be very nice. I am getting ready right this minute to install a 1tb ssd and repeat the process, then get busy downloading the isos for my games (which I lost the disc for a couple so this rules).
This is good, quite good, but it's currently half a guide if we don't want to wait 6 months for vimms to give us games. I have PKG's and Iso's so far depending on my download locations and have no idea how to run either. Being a PS3, i feel PS2 and PS1 were pretty important too, and then later you'd probably show us how to run retro roms, then beyond that would be the time to move into CFW hacks and what not, considering we can all use HEN. So until i've done way more research, and im honestly wiped right now, its cool, its hacked, i have zero idea how to use it now tho haha, look forward to more guides :)
Any chance you'd consider doing a video on the other modding option for the PS3? I own a PS3 fat system. It's not one of the ones with PS2 built in, but one of the later two USB port models. I want to mod it after I finish my current projects (Wii u and PSP). I've already installed a terrabyte drive in the PS3 (which I did a year and a half ago without the aid of your video) and it's just waiting to be fully upgraded. I know other people have already made videos on the subject, but if I'm being honest I prefer your work. I used your videos to help me with my 3ds and I got excited when I realized that you cover the PS3. Anyway, thanks man for all that you do. It's nice not being the only person out there to have this hobby, and I love seeing other people's love for older hardware and games.

Some things beginners like me might face: The first method didn't recognize my usb so don't fret, use the second method (worked flawlessly). Before installing HEN from the browser, enable javascript. I had to use a NTFS pendrive for games because I couldn't find a way to install Ridge Racer 7 on a FAT32 pendrive so no option for me to install the game on the PS3's HDD.

Very good step by step tutorial, worked for me. Transferring games with fat32 usb drive also works for me when i split the game files that are >4Gb . My only problem is that multiman (the HEN version that you recommended) gives me very frequent blackscreens when i start it which freeze the ps3 and i need to unplug it or hold power button long time to shut it down. I can only make my Multiman work again by deleting it and reinstalling Multiman. I have no other packages than multiman installed on my ps3. Do you know a fix for this that makes my multiman work without constantly needing to reinstall it? Should i try restore filesystem / rebuild database?
You can try deleting MultiMan and use MultiMan Mod instead. Or use WebMan Mod to see if that works better. They all do the same job but the Mod versions are slightly updated for extra features.

Thanks for the comments. It sounds like your disc player is broken. I guess the easiest way to fix it is to replace it. Or bypass it with wither the PS3HEN or CFW hack and play games from your hard drive or external USB drive.

The checking stage needs a PC. You don't need to go through this if you've got a compatible model (see video), bit it won't do the lower level checks or create a backup for you. You will risk bricking the PS3 if there are any errors on the system. This isn't very common but can happen.
Thanks for the video. I have a question when should I need to connect my ps3 internet network? Or all process is offline? Edit: I installed using safe mode on my ps3 superslim. In xmb software update couldnt recognized update file. Also 2 updates on safe mode.

so ive tryed this just now and followed the instructions word for word and im trying to do this to a fat model with a broken disc drive i have hen installed and everything but when i boot up the ps3 i dont get the hen logo its just blank then on the xmb i have hen and multi man but when i try to open multi man it just black screens is this a console problem or did i mess up somewhere or somehow?
You need to run the enable hen option every time you boot up the console. The system will boot to standard firmware first. You then override it with ps3hen.

Yes. You can connect to PSN as normal before you enable HEN. Once you've enabled HEN don't play online. Just make sure your auto update is turned off so it doesn't overwrite the hack.

Managed to get the website listed on Yahoo but clicking just gives same result, cant display that website. FIXED: go with Yahoo, but make sure you remove the S from HTTPS when it loads that. still not sure why it would not load for me the first time, because i had already made sure i didn't have the S in it when i was trying other sites on the first go. but yeah. working now.

Yes. Either this PS3HEN hack or the full custom firmware hack - ua-cam.com/video/4D4ZgRFVXQg/v-deo.html. Neither needs the Blu-Ray drive to be working. If you go the custom firmware hack make sure you download the firmware for a machine without a working disk drive.

Can I download delisted games such as sonic the hedgehog 1 and 2. I want to earn trophies and keep the games without modding. Is it possible to mod my ps3 and then remove the mod while keeping the games
try re downloading the firmware. Make sure you get the folder and filenames correct, in caps with the .PUP extension. If that checks out try a different USB drive if you have one. Hope you get it going!

I think all models can run PS1, PS2 and PS3 from backup files. You need the custom firmware for PSP. If you're buying a console to hack go for either a Phat, or a Slim with model number 20XX or 21XX. Some Slim 25XX can be hacked but you won't know until you try it.

I had mine connected to the Internet throughout the whole process. Safe mode will always work. Glad to hear you got it working.

Any branded stick should all be OK. Make sure you've formatted as FAT32. Make sure you try all the USB ports.

I'd be install web man MOD as well. That includes some protection to keep you safe online. Basically you need to hide the hack when you connect.

I have a problème when I click in multimen the ps3 just froze in black screen
Try deleteing MultiMan and installing wither MultiMan Mod or webman Mod instead.
my ps3hen had finaly desided to update without the multiman on the stick, why is that? (and can i still put it on orr)
If the PS3HEN firmware has been overwritten you just need to re install it.

The error can mean that the game files are incorrect or corrupted.

Make sure you've formatted it as an FAT32 drive and as an MBR system. I don't think the PS3 can use GTP formatted drives.
What is the format type of the external drive?
Pretty much everything for these older consoles needs to be FAT32.
