I went to the dentist last week and he did that thing when he blasts the plaque between my teeth, and blimey, the sound... It wasn't a good idea to have listened to this beforehand! :O
My dentist of 15 yrs...the only 1 who never caused me ANY pain, played only rock and roll in the office when I was there and made me laugh so hard I totally forgot my phobia, passed away a couple of yrs ago. I now have issues with 2 back molars...one on each side making eating difficult, and most likely requiring root canals. And yet I cannot bring myself to make an appt with anyone new. This story was very creepy indeed, and the slowly unfolding tale of revenge had me squirming till the final gruesome climax!
Amazing how they took a 3 minute "Lights Out" short and turned it into a 30 minute hellbender. I also hate how they say it was "based on an idea", when it was already a broadcast story 40 years before this one. It's only an idea when the product hasn't been produced, seen, or consumed.
This version certainly goes into a lot more detail about Houseman's past crime than the "Lights Out" version. (Naturally, because the original was released in the 1930s and there was no WAY you could do much more than hint at such things without the censors jumping on you.)
Two things: 1) The writing credit should say James Saunders, not "James Haunders". 2) James Saunders is also incorrect; he may have adapted this script for U.K. Radio, but in fact it was written for American radio, specifically the show "Lights Out", by Arch Oboler, back in the 1930s or '40s. Please correct this.
If the narrator had gone to the dentist I went to to get an impacted wisdom tooth pulled (sliced, sawed, chiseled and pried) out (with 1 shot of novacaine in a place not near the tooth & about 5 seconds wait time before the torturous task was begun [and he slipped and stabbed me in the back of my tongue w/the chisel]) he would have reason to fear the dentist lol Thankfully I eventually found an awesome one, with no reason to fear 😄 Excellent radio play! I wasn't keen on the end editor remark though, I hope most part who hear this story wouldn't be anything like the patient, so why would it frighten people into cancelling dentist appointments? Other than that it was just about perfect 🤗👍
Undead Ondine same happened to me pulled drilled and cut took one hour not enough novsaine I drivelling wreck afterwards I put up with tooth ache for years until jaw infected
@@carolewilson1311 My goodness, that's even worse than my experience, especially the terrible time you had afterwards. I'm sorry that happened to you. Some dentist shouldn't be allowed to be dentists!
I'm reading Danse Macabre by Stephen King and he just mentioned the original radio play so I came here to find it and found this instead, it was so good. I like how the lady's harrowing experience made her and her husband ultimately into this psycho sexual being topped off with this well deserved revenge!
I'm 14 mins into it and I 'think' I no where this is going, obviously I won't say, as I too read the comments first to get a flavour of how good this will be!!
Mrs Phelps eyes widen " You'll be buried with this filling "
I used to love listening to these stories with my mum back in the day. She'd put them on specially.

Violet, to it canals aren't bad. They numb the pain away. I wouldn't put it off. If the to it dies you may lose the tooth.

The moral of this story is:
Never do anything to piss off a dentist, they'll use their influence to get revenge on you.
Dentist, or a nurse. They will make you hurt in ways you didn’t know you could hurt.

Wonderful story!
thankyou so much love these shows xx
Thank you for posting this!
WHY do dentists try to strike up a conversation with the patient when they have their hands in said patient's mouth???
I love these! Thanks for uploading them. It should be noted: the actor who plays the patient is called Mick Ford, not Nick Ford.
Isn't Nick Ford the bisexual lawyer in Knowing me Knowing you?

God, I love Fear on Four ... Do you know how to get them all ? Thanks for posting :)
Dentist- I'll be pleased to see him
Nurse- Are you sure?!
Who's the professional?!🙄

0:30 It should be "inside people's mouths!"🙄

Sorry…but don’t understand this comment ⁉️

I like how calm the dentist remains throughout this...
The exchange between dentist and Mrs Phelps show his sadistic ways
This is the very best.
That was scary...

There are hundreds of fear on four and Man in Black stories.
