  • Along the eastern edge of Orange County lie the Santa Ana Mountains; a rugged range that used to host a network of beautiful trails for motorized use. Now, unfortunately, there are four or five trails still open to motor vehicles. This is THE most popular of those trails, because it has been the ONLY route into the mountains for quite some time, it is easily accessible from the cities in Orange County and the Los Angeles area, and it leads to Santiago Peak, the highest point in Orange County, with its amazing views. This makes it, at times, VERY crowded! And it also means that a lot of the people using it aren't experienced off-roaders, or off-roaders at all. There are hikers and cyclists that also use the trail. But, if you can make a weekday run of it, as we did here, it is an easy and beautiful trail. We didn't go to Santiago Peak on this day; we had other plans. (Part 2!)
    As always,
    Have FUN,
    Be SAFE,
Leave It BETTER Than You Found It and...
    HAPPY TRAILS!!!

We have a modified Jeep Wrangler with a 3.5" Rock Krawler lift and 37" tires. You can see her in our profile picture. She takes us just about anywhere we want to go and we're blessed to have her.

Absolutely! There are a few rough spots and steep switchbacks that might require some delicate driving, but just about any 2WD truck or SUV can drive up this road.
