The college admissions process has become so complicated that no one understands how it works, anymore.
Good Grief!!! My son already sent his top 1% (for his test date) score to Claremont McKenna for ED1 and this video suggests he shouldn’t have. Top ONE freakin percent! These poor kids!
That’s an amazing school. I think the tide is changing for standardized tests. They are seeing it matters a lot. Congrats to your son on his amazing score!
Perfect timing on the video! My son got a 1380 on the SAT and doesn’t fit the criteria you mentioned. From the schools you reviewed he is applying to Notre Dame and Ohio State. We were debating about sending to Notre Dame but will not now. Thank you!
Honestly good choice. I’m currently a freshman at Notre Dame and applied test optional last year
@@nyssia7 He submitted REA and is eagerly awaiting the mid December decision. It’s his dream reach school, so he knows it’s a long shot. Congratulations to you on getting in and thank you for the reply!
I can tell that eliminating test scores gives institutions a huge jump in the USNews rankings because UOregon jumped from 107 to 98. UDub jumped from 55 to 40. U Utah, on the other hand, is very conservative and dropped from right about 105 down to 115.
I found out that institutions in liberal states and some institutions in conservative states are giving free tuition to low-income students. That might be the real reason for unjustified jumps in rankings, in addition to research, of course.
The rise of the publics has more to do I think with eliminating class size as a determinant and emphasizing published research instead of faculty degree attainment. Alumni giving is also no longer considered. Also -- analyzing financial outcomes of students who are 1st gen is new to the equation and state schools tend to push out the less wealthy less quickly.
@@brookifyd The top research institutions jumped a whole lot. So, it's always unclear with each institution exactly why it advanced in the rankings. If you do detective work, you can observe trends with all the institutions as a whole.
I’m really worried for Case Western. I’m going test optional as my act score is 29 and SAT is 1360. My grades are good and I have good EC’s, I applied EA and hope I get in 🤞
ACT superscore 30 now
Edit: I got deferred 😭
how far does the underprivileged student card work till? I’m applying to Notre Dame and my score is a 1350 but I’m also originally from a hispanic poor country and my school’s average score is a 790 so my score is very good in comparison. Should I submit or no? Also should I submit it to Ivies?
i'm in your boat too sister. hope it went well for u!
How about University of Chicago?
Super scored 1520...should I submit University of Pennsylvania?
Yes, anything in the 1500s range is a good score.
A 1500 is right around the make or break point for the top 20. So, 20 extra points is definitely a bonus.
Congrats on your scores! I got a 1420 on the August SAT and I ran out of time to take it again. I don't think I'll submit my scores to Penn :(
Kinda disappointed since Penn is my ED.
U conn requires test scores
Ma'am, what about an international student from underrepresented Asian country? Will I receive an advantage as an underrepresented minority or get drawbacks as an asian international student?
how much do scores actually make or break ur decision overall. Like is my essay or sat score gonna matter more
where can I found this percent for the college I want to apply?
Common data set -- google it
do you have any advice for me i am applying to Rice but my act is a 28 and ed is due nov 1 :(.
I have a 34 act, should i still submit it when it's the 25th percentile for the school? But I have like a pretty low reading/writing score with a high science/math score.
Great information Brooke.
I am an international studant and I am terrible at math. I am studying for more than two months for the sat and i am really well at reading and writing, but i just CANT do math. I am afraid because i plan to do the november 2th sat, but i am not good at math and as an international student i NEED to send the sat score
I have a 1440 SAT score. Should I send my score to Bowdoin? Applying RD
can you do a video about ACT scores for 2023?
This is great, but I see the data is from 2021. Could you do one with the most recent data to help the kids who will be applying this fall? Thanks, great videos!
Is it gonna matter at UCLA
No
How do you justify the inclusion of NYU in this list? According to their latest CDS, 92% of enrolled students submitted either an SAT or ACT.
if you look at this page-- commondatasets.com/NYU.html it's admitted student academics which is different from enrolled-- but it shows that 12873 students were accepted and only 5287 of those had test scores. I've also heard through my sources that their office wants HIGH SAT scores or prefers no score. This was even lower than the CDS that we sourced when we researched the video 3 weeks ago-- only 41% of admitted students had a test score according to this data!
you might be looking at a sum of ACT/SAT that only includes submitters... not sure.
seeing this adds to 92% -- yeah-- you're only looking at the 5287 but look at the 12873 admitted!!! It means 8% might have been both tests? rather than one or the other? not sure. But that's a typical overlap number. so maybe there is another 8% on the top of the 5287? in any case we're still half test optional and that's significant.
As a homeschool mom, let me advise homeschool students to take some dual enrollment classes, so college readiness can be properly shared without bias.
2:00 USC 25-75% should be typo. 1360-1540 NOT 1460-1540. Pls check for urself.
University of Southern California -- it is correct. We checked it. oir.usc.edu/common-data-set/ Maybe you're thinking south carolina??
