What I like about the Prequels is that they highlight political oppression's psychological roots in the individual: individual human weakness lays the ground for dictatorships and mob rule to take shape.

People criticized the prequels because of politics, and miss the point. Apparently politics are so easily taken for granted that it flies over our heads even when talking about it.

54:13 -52:24. An emo kid with issues. That's definitely one way to describe Anakin's character in the prequels and I love every minute of it. People hate this but from a storytelling and writing standpoint, it makes perfect sense and works really well. If a character is gonna become darth vader, most likely he's gonna be a very emotionally troubled and stunted person with issues👍👍

I remember when this premiered on the History Channel back when I was 11/12. I had a friend who lived in the apartment building down the road that I'd frequently play outside with, and I remember us both dropping our plastic hasbro lightsabers to rush to our respective apartments to watch it so this brings back fond childhood memories. Thank you for preserving this documentary.

Seeing Peter Jackson here is like watching an old friend before something life-changing hit them hard (like the making of The Hobbit). Its honestly a shame that for all the negative comparisons to George he drew for those films, I feel like cinema is a poorer place without him and George around.
Seeing JJ Abrams is like going back in time and seeing Judas after the betrayal.

This Documentary really makes me (a big Star Wars fan) appreciate the franchise and the story as a whole so much more. You truly get to see how the story unfolds. Anakin’s rise, fall, and redemption was comprehended very well; and I think this documentary helps maybe some fans appreciate the prequel’s a little more. I certainly appreciate them a lot more than when I first saw them growing up. Sure the execution in aspects of the films weren’t there but the story itself was there. George Lucas truly is an amazing story teller and I appreciate his work on this Franchise so much!

This documentary is great and gives you a respect for the whole story of Star Wars. The Disney trilogy was really rough to watch because all of the hard work the characters went through in the other movies- turns out it was all for nothing. It has been more or less revealed that the Disney movie did not have a story planned ahead of time and it shows. I personally don’t consider the Disney trilogy canon.

Thank you for uploading this, I remember watching this as a wee 10 year old. It was the first time I was given insight on the inspirations & foreshadowing behind Star Wars.
It was an awesome time for the franchise, the hype was still around even after episode III. Obviously people still had issues with the prequels, but it was no where near as bad as the derailed flaming Disney train.
I remember being so enthralled with the idea of episode 7 and onwards, I used to make up my own stories while playing with the action figures in the living room. Honestly I miss the feeling of being excited for anything star wars.

The thing about Lucas' Star Wars, is that he had "Strong Women"... yet didn't "beat us over the head with it". They just were, and there were reasons WHY they were in the positions they were in. So we accepted it without question. We didn't NEED to be "told" that they were strong women and should be celebrated because they were strong women. Leia, we knew, had been raised in a political family, so it was natural that she was a politician. Padme', pretty much the same. But they were both "feisty", who challenged authority, and it seemed pretty damned natural. THAT is what has been lost these days.

Also all Jedi have had to go through their trials and tribulations, whether they were male or female, even if it was off screen. Rey is just a Mary Sue who can do anything and fight anyone and we’re expected to love her because she’s female. Whether she was male or female I would have hated the character because you can’t just make someone invincible without training or a backstory, that’s just bad writing

It sounds like he's given up and that he's trapped in the cycle forever after trying so many times to pull away, either as himself or as Darth Vader. And you use that word "resurrect" as if everyone, everywhere WANTED them back and weren't content with what we already had. This is the main M.O. of major studios today: Member Berries. That South Park reference might be used constantly, but it doesn't make it any less true.
Here's a nutty idea for the so-called creatives making movies today: take the things you grew up on, like Wars and Trek and use them to spur your own creative ideas and characters. Like George Lucas and Gene Roddenberry did when they came up with their respective creations. Except ol' J.J. doesn't have any creativity. If he did, he'd be able to finish a story. Mystery Box = no real plan or answers.
People like Abrams are all the same. They claim to be a fan of something, but if it means a paycheck, they'll take that thing and do as lazy a job as they can with it. Star Trek '09 was an attempt to turn Trek into Star Wars, by their own admission by the way. Into Darkness was a hatchet job on Wrath of Khan, Force Awakens was a remake of A New Hope and Rise of Skywalker was a sloppy attempt to tie off a trilogy that never had a plan, again by Abrams own admission.
The Prequels were far from great. But at least they had a mapped out story that didn't trash what people had seen already.
No one will make a documentary one day called "The Sequel Trilogy: The Legacy Revealed". Because it is now just another thing that was once special and twisted into a generic product. But by all means enjoy.
You can eat McDonald's all day if you want. Just don't insist it's gourmet food. Because of people like Abrams, the soulless suits at Disney and FAR too easy to please "fans" that just accept anything with a particular logo on it, that's all Star Wars represents now.

They aren’t the insufferable in-you-face Girl Boss like Brie Larson IRL or her factuous on screen persona Captain Marvel. The Star Wars females are smart, clever, industrious & beautiful without being propagandized detritus. Modern directors & writers could learn a thing or two from Lucas who was always ahead of his time & a few steps ahead of others in myriad ways whether it was filmmaking, marketing or strong female characters.

I couldn't agree with Kevin Smith more. Some people say that Anakin was; "too whiny." As if to question why the most Evil character in the Galaxy would have been some whiny teenager.
When that's EXACTLY who the most Evil character in the Galaxy would have been.
He would have started out as some petulant, arrogant, and whiny teenager.
Consumed by selfishness and drunk with power.
Because somebody risen above all that would have had the innate character qualities to avoid becoming so Evil in the first place.
That's precisely who Vader would have been, originally. Some; "whiny teenager." It makes the most sense possible.

I watched the video you linked. It was a fascinating discussion of the similarities between the Hero's Journey, as described by Joseph Campbell, and the Star Wars films.
Campbell's Hero's Journey is a universal pattern that can be found in myths and stories from all over the world. It tells the story of a hero who goes on an adventure, faces challenges, and ultimately returns home transformed.
The Star Wars films follow the Hero's Journey very closely. Luke Skywalker is the hero, and his journey takes him from his home on Tatooine to the Death Star, where he faces Darth Vader and saves the galaxy.
The video also discusses how the Star Wars films have been influenced by other myths and stories. For example, the character of Darth Vader is similar to the Greek god Cronus, who ate his own children.
Overall, I found the video to be very informative and thought-provoking. It gave me a new appreciation for the Star Wars films and the Hero's Journey.
Here are some additional thoughts on the topic:
    • The Hero's Journey is a powerful story archetype that has resonated with people for centuries. It is a story of hope, transformation, and redemption.
    • The Star Wars films are a modern retelling of the Hero's Journey. They have brought this ancient story to a new generation and helped to make it even more popular.
    • The Hero's Journey is a reminder that we all have the potential to be heroes. We can all go on an adventure, face challenges, and ultimately return home transformed.
