This strong-arm method of separating the indigenous people from their land is exactly what Harry endorses. He’ll turn a blind eye to the atrocities taking place to keep his Board member position along with his other rich cronies.
I oppose what H is doing or not doing - quite disgusting- not at all how we folks in Gt. Britain do things. However I find your statement of "old Colonial control and dominance" disappointing.. It was a different time and those in charge from Britain did their best for Africa....I know my family contributed Money-wise for over 100 years that I know of and up to present day. I remember at Xmas in particular, doing without as children so we could give a donation to the Church for Africa...we also gave on a weekly basis to help. Twice a year there would be a clothes drive which included eye glasses etc. for those in need. Also some Africans were brought over to Britain to be educated at our expense so they could return and help others. We are sorry these horrible things are happening to your people but please don't blame us innocent people .
I have to say that if the area where the Baka people is so environmentally pristine that it deserves preservation, the Baka themselves are the most appropriate stewards for that area. They have the knowledge and the heart to protect the region. The fact that this billionaire-backed "charity" venture has pushed the Baka off their ancestral lands makes me suspicious that the nonprofit staff are incompetent at best, and serving a different goal (resource extraction without any witnesses?) at worst.
This is the way Damian Mander’s Akashinga works. It used to be teams of imported white ex-soldiers protecting the elephants and rhinos and the charity was called IAPF ( I forget what this stands for but the p was for poaching!) but then they began training the local women to form protective teams for the wildlife; their funds moved towards educating locals and establishing fair trade deals for locally produced artefacts. Now they have changed their name to Akashinga, the name given to the female army who manage and protect the animals with the support and funding from the charity. It has become about empowering local communities and employment for local women to protect the animals unique to that part of the world. They are proud people, proud of their families, their communities and their beautiful country and its wildlife. They are invested in preventing the plunder of their wildlife by foreign money.
The Times article didn't give loads of details but my sense is that African Parks have a lot of money and powerful Western backing, and have the agency to shape conservation corridors throughout Africa. I would imagine they consult with locals (at least local politicians?) but sounds like they will section off local land if beneficial to the conservation effors. It sounded to me like they've got rangers on the ground who are well paid and not well disciplined - verging on a private militia - and who African Parks don't necessarily have full control over even though they employ them, and who run rough shod over the local populace. Recipe for disaster really...
@@rachel45444 From what I've read, Africa Parks rangers are trained by South African and Israeli former military. Doesn't sound like training for people working in conservation to me.
You look Divine my dear! I'm in the state of Kentucky in the USA and I love how your videos exude class and good manners. I'm a little country grandma who has done my fair share of farmwork in my 61 years but good behavior is not just for those in the public eye or the wealthy but is inherently a sign of character that can't be purchased but does shine brightly around us.. leaving a positive influence on others. Keep shining your light as you entertain us so richly!!
William is 100% correct. Throwing money at the problem is a waste, may as well throw it in a hole..too many corrupt powers that be just divide it amongst themselves, and very little trickles to the people (if anything many times). It has to come from empowering the people themselves. harry is a very shallow minded man fr
Money can help bridge the gap but the old adage of "teach a man how to fish and he'll never starve" is apropos. People in poverty do best when they are taught ways to be self-sufficient. So, it's not really an either or approach but a collaborative effort that is best applied. Too bad the princely brothers couldn't see their way to work together.
Well done for telling them where to get off. They are relying on a generation who has grown up on giving away their personal information. We need to go back to analogue - cash and privacy all the way.
Agree. I've deliberately reverted to using cash everywhere possible. It's been reported here in Australia that even with a rise in vendors only accepting card, the use of cash is increasing. Good.
@@Nonie_Jay With you there. On the rare occasion I find myself in a place that doesn't want to accept cash, I query why they won't accept the legal currency of the country and then leave them to put away what I had been going to buy and leave.
Hi River, the big difference between Prince William and Horrid is that William cares and will help others, Horrid says he will help but shame his promise to that baby girl in Africa who he said he would look after 20yrs ago didnt get anything from him
Harry was too busy hobnobbing with Legends of Aviation and spewing platitudes about social media instead of flying out to that area and investigating, or calling for a BOD meeting and doing a joint investigation. Where Harry can do good, he doesn't. Where he can get some photo ops, he's all over it.
Well he was informed about it by the Humans Rights group that wrote to him and who also enclosed a video recorded by a Baka man outlining their abuse eight months ago. He could have used his contacts and social media to bring attention to the dreadful situation, but instead he abdicated his responsibilities as president and hid among the board members.
Some salespeople are very aggressive and invasive today. My first reaction to offers of help the minute I walk in is usually to reply with a "No thank you. If I need assistance, I'll ask." I just don't want to be a bother, and I don't want to be bothered.
That’s funny because the store where I work, my coworkers barely want to help the customers. They will hide in the back rooms and the fitting rooms. They will pass the buck to other associates. They will pretend like they don’t speak English or don’t know where anything is. I don’t know why some people apply for jobs like these but hate serving people. Serving people is part of the job!
@@kmrose Yeah, I end up dealing with a lot of toxic customers when nobody else wants to deal with them. I’ve even had people complain about me for following the rules. 😂
I have had similar experiences in stores and I now say that I don't have e-mail or cell phone ( which is true about the cell phone) and they look at me like they are scared of encountering an alien, but it shuts them up.
There were many charities who tried to get Princess Diana on boards and she refused. She felt her role was best served on the ground drawing attention to charities an activities . A position on a charity board is a big responsibility and should be taken seriously.
Retired from the nonprofit world as staff. We knew the difference between board members committed to upholding the mission and proved it through diligent oversight and those for whom it was resume bling.
I once went into a well known, high end department store and made the mistake of going in the entrance near the perfume department. I immediately got pounced on and sprayed with perfume and skin oil. Straight into my eye. I was allergic to something and my whole face swelled up and my eye closed up, the oil stained my jacket sleeve. Now days I'd sue them. Back then I just accepted an ice pack and an apology 😳🙄
That happened to me in Harrods when my husband and I were in London. Thankfully I didn’t have the same reaction as you did but stank for the rest of the day.🇬🇧
@@janelesniak1817 back at Christmas time my son and I went to a high end store to buy a fragrance for his girlfriend. We left so disappointed in the scents that people speak non stop about. I stick with my flavor of Chanel, but most others smell so old musky and tooo strong.
I hate vanilla in perfume as it gives me migraines as well as jasmine. Always ask if they are in perfume and sometimes they show me bottles with them in and I quickly tell them NO. Some sales persons are not happy. But a lot can be understanding.
I try to scope out where the salespersons are, then zip through the perfume section as fast as possible while holding my breath. Most of the perfumes now are made with so many additives or are synthetic scents which are very unhealthy.
Exactly why I ignored my old companies training and treated my customers how I would like to be treated as a customer. My way worked. Respect and honesty got me a long way
Your manhattan tiara is beautiful.💕I think Harry has lost his way. It’s sad that he can go to movie premiers, claiming he’s humanitarian. He needs to resign and apologize to the people he let down.
On an American comedy called Curb your Enthusiasm, the main character Larry, is walking through a department store when he's ambushed by a lady who sprays customers with fragrances. He is so startled that he pushes her away & she lands on her arse 😂
That happened to my late mother years ago. She was walking through the perfume department in a high end store, here in the UK, when a saleswoman sprayed Youth Dew by Estée Lauder. It went all over a brand new coat and was awful We’re not big ones for dry cleaning, because it’s so environmentally unfriendly, but she had it cleaned twice and *still* couldn’t get the smell out. The smell used to give her a migraine, so she ended up giving the almost new coat away.
My late mother loved Youth Dew but I couldn't stand it. I used to refer to it as "A stale odour". She thought for a long time I was saying Estee Lauder. She was not impressed when she cottoned on to what I was saying.
Colin Turnbull wrote a book, The Forest People, which tells the story of the Baka people (aka pygmies). Many years ago, as a pre-teen student it was required reading in my NYC public school. It was fascinating -- this exotic tribe with its isolated peaceful existence that established a society reflective of its respect for each member. They were not a large group at that time. It is upsetting to know that this has happened.
I worked in department store in makeup. My salary was split between store and my Estée Lauder. You have goals you must hit or let go. The lady that strong armed was wrong, probably given a quota to meet it like 1 or 2 per hour you match skin and get your email to count to your quota. In the old days it was to get them to fill out a postcard size card of all your information. I hated it. No excuse for her actions. Autocorrect grrrr
Also, Harry involves himself only in the most superficial ways whereas, William gives time and thought to reach much deeper for a longer lasting solution to any situation he's faced with.
Harry is only there for the 15 min photo ops to profile his “philanthropy “. What WORK does he do besides visit once per year at Africa Parks’ expense? He is a useless “tool” and similar to his work on other charities.
It’s already apparent that Harry and Meghan have no substance, they’re all about the talk and appearing in the spotlight. If it doesn’t promote them, then they are not interested
Africa parks is arming rangers to do the bidding of Africa parks which is essentially land grab of native lands, by using rangers from outside of the areas Africa parks are “managing”
I was in a US Sephora during the bad days of covid, minding my own business looking for a tinted moisturizer. The next thing I knew an aggressive manager was slapping samples on my face without asking permission, in my face and touching me. I walked out. I was wearing a mask because I was helping to care for my mother who was dying from a long illness. We protected her from covid, we did not want her to be alone in a hospital at the end. The fact that I was wearing a mask did not clue this woman in that I wanted distance. I felt violated in some way.
I TOTALLY agree with you River regarding your experience with make-up. I purchased a silk scarf and the same thing happened - the salesgirl wanted (insisted) on my email. I refused and said that I wouldn't be purchasing the scarf is that was the criteria. She backed off but I would never shop in that store again. Thanks for a wonderful video!!! (as always).
We are talking Africa here.. the cultures are different but bullying is bulling....and is typical.. should have been more involved with this area. Get out there and get it sorted
Excellent standing your ground against these stores demanding your personal information for their Big Brother grid & eventual full control over goods & services. You're absolutely correct that that's where this is going. Also, your baguette encrusted tiara is my favorite! It's always been my favorite cut of stone- that & emerald cut. Just gorgeous! It's funny - I used to say I was a raven in another life the way I collected ✨ sparkly things too.
I have a second email for all things such as this. I use it every time I'm asked for one so if they send lots of emails I just delete and it does not affect my normal email. It's easy just a Gmail.
Good afternoon from a tiny town near Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, USA. Love the tiara! That must been appalling to find yourself sitting for a makeup consultation. I am so tired of H. What a spoiled and creepy boy he continues to be.
Oooo! Love your look. A modern take on Mary Queen of Scots. Our playground song was "Mary Queen of Scots got head head chopped off, her head chopped off, her head chopped off. Mary Queen of Scots got her head chopped off on a cold and frosty morning." The hapless victim was held suspended by their arms and legs and on the word "off" was propelled skywards. Fun times.
Good morning from New Zealand! Yes, those girls behind the counter need to learn that people generally know themselves better than they do. I had a young woman try to tell me I didn't know the difference between an allergic reaction and the tautness one feels after using a toner. I became rather sharp over the phone with her asking how she thought she knew my skin better than I did and DID they have a returns policy or did I need to speak to her supervisor? She dropped her supercilious behaviour and moved her booty to refund me. When my skin is bright red and peeling - that's not what toner does. Anyhoo, I make my own skincare now. It's more effective and cheaper. lol. Thank you for the updates and I love tip jar corner. xxx
I used to work in retail and our training was basically forced sales. However, i ignored that as I believe I should treat my customers how I would like to be treated. My customers came back more and requested me because they felt comfortable and knew I was honest in what I was selling
Not fuddy duddy at all River! You are spot on about 99% of the time. I will be amazed if we have cash at all in 5 years time. You look especially stunning today! Generally, sales staff are under tremendous pressure from corporations to be pushy aka customer service. They're underpaid too. They're caught between the toxicity of corporations and a few toxic customers. Please be more understanding! A former sales clerk.
@@kmrose Pushy staff who don't listen never get a sale from me. Someone who takes the time to know that I know my skin etc better, who are willing to dialogue, who behave in a way that says they want to help me find the best thing for me - they'll have me coming back time and again. And they didn't push at all. When I did retail, I never pushed. I asked questions, I found out the person's needs, I chatted, I matched them with something and they loved it and bought it. 150 broadcasts! Good work River. This is in stark contrast to the Duchess of Sussex who managed to turn out 12 episodes of her podcast in 2.5 years. It makes me realise how much work you and other content creators do, how we tend to underrate it, albeit unintentionally. You deserve every tip from the tip jar 🙂❤
Good afternoon River. The tiara is delightful! When in department stores, I lie like a rug. I tell them I don't have an email address/cell phone. 90% of the time the sales person is so gobsmacked they go silent! LMAO!!!! I've found myself singing "The Lady in the Tutti Fruiti Hat". Thank you for the lovely memory.
When I read that my favorite charity, World Wildlife Fund (one that Prince Philip helped start), was involved in the African indigenous atrocities, it broke my heart. They issued a statement denying it and this is in their website (supporting Prince William’s method of conservation). But we shall see. They’re a huge organization, so it wouldn’t surprise me that a few rogue employees were evil. But make it right and punish those who committed the crime if they did. “Historically, conservation has often promoted areas of untouched wilderness preserved behind fortress-like boundaries. Today, the most successful conservation projects are those that partner with local communities who derive benefits from the ecosystems they steward. As understanding of nature’s contributions to people’s well-being and prosperity has grown, these values are increasingly being incorporated across policy, business, and finance.” (I have a new handle. Love you, River!)
As usual, you look amazing , River. I love the black top with the sparkles and beautiful leaf broach. I also love the tiara and makeup. You always look so elegant. I get the fury over pushy sales people. You have my sympathy. Thank you for the video. It made my Saturday. Its much appreciated.
Beautiful River, you have great taste in clothes. I could never put together such lovely outfits. And your make up is always on point. I'm retired now so I live in jeans, tee shirts and trainers. But I do appreciate someone who puts so much effort in their appearance for their fruits!
I love his dressing up too. I love a good “costume” or theme and glam is so delish. I recently donned the mob wife look for dinner one night. I wonder if River has ever bought any clothes or accessories that the Royal women have worn. So many followers do that. @riverroyal
It seems to me that both approaches are ysed together would be ideal. I wore that pink coral color a lot when it was popular. Made my skin glow. I had a dilk blouse and love that scarf! Your tiara is a glittering beauty. Let us see it again.
Hello River, I cannot say enough on how well this channel has reported on nutrocities being inflicted on the indigenous people of the rain forest. You have provided more indepth information than any other news channel, other channels and even news articles in a way I can understand while making sure to not take away the seriousness of what is happening because I believe this is still happening to people. Thank you for not letting this go away and having a strong backbone to keep this in the forefront. Your channel when reporting world events is more professional and more educational then those who are professional reporters who get paid millions to sugar coat or down play true issues because they are many tines than not in the pocket of those trying to make the ugly but sad truth stories go away. Never change, stay strong and true to yourself and know you are better have more flare and dress better then those anchors in news agencies. Thank you again !!!! from America
Thankyou River for your hilarious fashion tips. I’m now on the hunt for a large chiffon scarf big enough to cover my “bits” while I swan around my boudoir 😂😂
I almost won a Carmen Miranda look-alike contest including samba dancing, but at the very end a man with a banana laden costume won the prize! Nevertheless, it was so much fun, in midtown Manhattan on Brazilian Independence Day! (Over 25 years ago! A great memory)😂❤🎉
Your skin is SO beautiful, clear, glowing. I would kill for such skin! You are a true beauty. I agree with your rant. I haven't sat at a makeup counter in years; I can't bear it.
Dear River, You have the best charity shops in England! I live in New York (Manhattan) and our shops pale in comparison . You looked particularly beautiful today. Keep up the great work and wardrobe! 💞💞💞
I agree with you River about the cosmetics counter ‘bullying’. I work for a cosmetics shop in the US. We are instructed to get info from customers so the shop can send emails for adverts, coupons, special offers etc, I despise having to do that. They also instruct us to get customers to sign up for the shop’s credit card or loyalty program, and we aren’t supposed to take ‘no’ for an answer. They have ‘ numbers’ they have to meet at the end of the day/week/month and if those numbers aren’t met the employees get an ear full. It’s terrible. They really don’t care about customer service or the products anymore, it’s just getting personal info from customers and getting them to sign up for credit cards etc. I feel sorry for the shoppers who just want to purchase things and go ,but instead have to play 20 questions. And when I shop I feel sorry for the workers because I know they’re required to be aggressive ‘ bullies’ and not take no for an answer.True customer service is very rare these days unfortunately.
Loved the entire broadcast. The backstory on the African charities was interesting. Also loved your new baubles but your advice regarding a chiffon scarf was *amazing* and so River!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Heading to the tip jar now!
I have a "junk" email for those bullies and websites that insist on it. I'm glad you stood your ground. I completely agree, River. The make-up chair by the counter of Estee Lauder is NOT what I want - germs, pushing products on me. I also know what shade I want.
What a wonderful broadcast! I loved your boudoir advice - so tastefully described, yet sexy! And your descriptions of your baubles, accessories and décor are so sophisticated and amusing. Viva Tip Jar Corner!
The way you describe your charity finds is so lovely. You give every item life with your words. It very much reminds me of the author, Peter Mayle. His works are a sheer delight in the same way.

The shop assistants need to gather so many email addresses a day to satisfy their managers. The shop assistants are put under a lot of pressure by both the managers and public
There's a cosmetic shop in my town with a really aggressive stance. The staff stand outside all day and try to grab likely customers with promises of freebies, no strings attached. Well, of course, there's no such thing as a free lunch! I was caught out the first time, and took ages to extricate myself. Now I have to be really rude when I pass by and am being importuned, as a simple "No thank you," doesn't work. It annoys me that I have to remember to avoid the shop or be rude and totally blank them when they approach. I doubt they have many returning customers.
I know what you mean. I called to find information, when they asked if they could call I said No. The next day I got over 50 sale calls the next several days I got over 25. I am on a no call list. After 7 days I'm still getting several each day.
River, I really love your “finds” . You seem to have elegant taste , with a bit of whimsy at times. I always find it fun to watch “tip jar corner “ thank you ❣️
I feel that way when I go into a website to look at something I am considering purchasing and before they will let me onto the site they demand my email address. I usually just decide, Never Mind and I back out of the site and forget about it. If I don't know if there will be anything there that I am interested in, why should I have to give them my email address? The truth is that I buy a lot of things online so if they would let me browse through their things I would very likely make a purchase but I'm not going to identify myself just so I can look through their things to see if there's anything that interests me.
River, shopping: you're so right. When you go shopping these days and have to engage with an assistant before you, purchase or order; they always want your email. You're then flooded with adverts several times a day; even though you've deleted the advert. They invade your personal space!
When you get unwanted email adverts, scroll all the way to the bottom and see if there is an option to unsubscribe from the emailing list. A other option would be to set up a free email account just for these people. You'll probably have to check it once a month to delete all the emails though.
The paperless receipt gets me. when I have said no I have had a virtue signalling assistant tell ne it's to help the enviroment😅😅😅. Surely it's greener for them to give me a tiny receipt than electronically send me one that I then have to then go into emails to get and use my printer to print it out on big paper. I don't want to give them my details and I want a piece of paper I can see for my business. I don't drive a car and am very environmentally conscious. Actively so. Really pisses me off😅😅😅
@@fabulousnewt770receipts: what they want is your email address to flood you with free adverts to buy more. In effects invading your space, pestering you. The other problem is they're always asking you to accept cookies and that's also adverts.
.I get a look of horror and tut-tut when I say no thank you to store club cards and my heart sinks when I find myself behind a customer searching for the latest required personal information to take advantage of a small deduction. Date of birth! Postcode! Why? You are such a romantic River, telling us how to waft about naked in pink chiffon ❤

@judywright4241 Exactly who is stripping the land?
@@amaliaregno5282 Where do the Akashinga operate?
@@amaliaregno5282 That's wonderful.
@@rachel45444 From what I've read, Africa Parks rangers are trained by South African and Israeli former military. Doesn't sound like training for people working in conservation to me.

You look Divine my dear! I'm in the state of Kentucky in the USA and I love how your videos exude class and good manners. William is 100% correct. Throwing money at the problem is a waste, may as well throw it in a hole..too many corrupt powers that be just divide it amongst themselves, and very little trickles to the people (if anything many times). It has to come from empowering the people themselves. harry is a very shallow minded man fr
Well Harry has spent his own life expecting people to throw Money at him so that’s the only solution to any problem that he understands
Came here to say this but you beat me to it. White savior complex vs empowering the locals. Huge difference.
The gruesome twosome do the pocket lining from charitable funds as their default setting, so anyone else doing that is competition, and frowned upon.
Two many corrupt Western billionaires allegedly.
Well done for telling them where to get off. They are relying on a generation who has grown up on giving away their personal information. We need to go back to analogue - cash and privacy all the way.

Hi River, the big difference between Prince William and Horrid is that William cares and will help others, Horrid says he will help but shame his promise to that baby girl in Africa who he said he would look after 20yrs ago didnt get anything from him
Harry lacks in the necessary leadership skills as well as the background knowledge necessary to find solutions to this specific problem
He is more worried about seating arrangements quite clearly

As Always perfection. Harry's attitude goes with his character. Autocratic and not thinking anything through .
Sounds like a well known scene of Mr Bean in the perfume department of a department store😂😂
River looks simply gorgeous today but then he's a beautiful creature so it's not difficult.Pure class and elegance.
My standard reply to pushy sales persons is "I'm sorry. I don't share my email or telephone number."

It went all over a brand new coat and was awful
We’re not big ones for dry cleaning, because it’s so environmentally unfriendly, but she had it cleaned twice and *still* couldn’t get the smell out.
The smell used to give her a migraine, so she ended up giving the almost new coat away.
@@enkisdaughter4795Oh no! Youth Dew is awful. Thought you were going to say she pushed her over ❤

Queen Camilla loves dancing and participates (or did, maybe doesn't have time now) in Silver Swans, which is magnificent adult ballet!

Harry, at best, only ever gives anything lip service. Unlike William who makes a promise then follows through!
Isn’t that the truth.
The yraitor younger son only gets involved if he is either getting payed or investing in. Vile corrupt individual. Allegedly
Unfortunate but it’s not the sales clerks fault either because they’re following company policy.

As understanding of nature’s contributions to people’s well-being and prosperity has grown, these values are increasingly being incorporated across policy, business, and finance.”
