She is the finest example of “A life well lived”. And, a great long one she had….. i feel blessed that she was alive during my lifetime 💝
That’s exactly how I feel. ❤
Very well said
Beautifully said. 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
My feeling too. One of the greatest of the great 😢
Word perfect x
Thank you River for the Maggie Smith and Kenneth Williams poetry reading..
Yes a fitting and lovely tribute.
She was a fantastic actress,so naturally funny... how sad, rest in peace...🥲🫶🇨🇦
Death is nothing to be feared. She's been an amazing soul. She will literally be in heaven now and extraordinarily happy. She'll choose when her soul, if she wants, c
Re-incarnates on earth. Nothing to be feared. Just moving to the other side.
And there it is! The like farmers are back up to three comments every video! Pathetic really.
I was surprised at how much the news of Maggie Smith’s death affected me. I loved her performances. It made me very sad.
I've been sniveling mess!
I Fell The Exact Same Reaction This Morning When I First Heard The News. I Was Totally Devastated & Have Been Feeling So Sad The Entire Day! What A Beautifully Talented Lady; In A Class All in A Class of Her Own! ❤❤💔💔❤❤
I think it’s because, like The Queen, she has been in our consciousness most of our lives. Rest In Peace Dame Maggie, xx
Yes. The world is sadder and less bright without Maggie Smith in it.
💯💔
Rlp. Good long life
I agree 💔
RIP Dame Maggie.💔
Maggie Smith was in my humble opinion, the finest British actress.
Did you ever watch Tea with the Dames, with Maggie, Joan Plowright, Judi Dench and Eileen Atkinson. 4 Dames together, of similar age. They do not make them like that anymore.
I definitely have to check that out! I adore British humor!
I did !
I have just finished re-watching it on DVD after hearing the sad news.
Yes I watched that. Absolutely loved it ✌️🇦🇺
It was a great programme.
She was a lovely woman and will be missed.
So sad she was one of my favorite actresses❤😢the world is a little less bright without her😢
My 89 year-year old Aunty had her funeral service today, the day Dame Maggie passed. These ladies were the same age and although my aunt is not of the stature of Maggie, she published books, travelled the world, served the church up until the week she passed and even acquired a Master of Arts when she was 60! Seems 1934 hatched some stellar ladies. May they both RIP.
Thank for your Story about your Aunty you will have many Good memories about her my condolences to you ❤️❤️
@sashavjs sorry to hear about a great lady like your aunt passing. She certainly accomplished a lot on her life too. 🙏 I'm sure you are very proud of her achievements.
So sorry for your loss. Sounds like your Aunt was quite extraordinary herself
I’m sorry for the loss of your Aunt, she sounds like a wonderful woman to have known ❤ May you be surrounded by love and beautiful memories!
Sorry for your loss. If you can tell us, what is your Aunts name and the names of her books???🎉
The "5 friends" is code for Meagain. They might have let their names be used but the flowery, over the top prose screams Meagain. She can't fool us!
She is obviously the author. She wrote the emails, and made her staff send them. Like POWs being paraded in front of the press.
Employees of MM raved about how wonderful she is ? Here in the south in USA we have saying :THAT DOG WON'T HUNT
Liar, gold digging yacht girl.
😅😅🐕
Their cornbread ain't riz!
Great sadness. Thank you for lovely tribute.
The most Exotic Marigold Hotel! What a fabulous nuanced actress of so many genres
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
She can now buy green bananas 😊
" I do not eat what I can't pronounce." Something like that, is what I can remember that she said in that movie, and I laughed.
Sorry to say that I have never watched this particular film, but I do agree with the sentiment of the last part of your post. xxx
Adored her for many decades.
RIP Maggie.
America loves you.
Prayers to your family
Sycophants always sound fake. They over egg the custard.
River you look beautiful in purple, love your show 👏🫶🇨🇦
Oh, he really looks stunning today doesn't he, purple is definitely his colour.
And there it is! The like farmers are back up to three comments every video! Pathetic really.
Ha ha, I agree! Dick in Heels always sounded too complimentary. When her 'supporters' {madam} bring up glowing nauseating stories from YEARS ago it doesn't help, just like old pictures from when she was sucking up the goodies and money from the royal family - just look at her today! What a horrid mess and not really trying to cover up her true personality any more. We see her for what she is.
I love seeing Sophie working hard for the family, but I hope that she gets enough down time and doesn't burn out. She's a gem.
As are you, you look lovely today! 💜
She will be remembered for ages. She always gave wonderful performances. The worlds a little dimmer today 😢
Forever!
I adore Dame Maggie and am so saddened by her passing. The world has lost a true legend. May she rest in peace. She will never be forgotten.
Maggie Smith & Dame Judy Dench were just a hilarious duo!
If you haven’t seen “Tea With The Dames” with Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins and Joan Plowright it’s a real treat.
Dame Maggie Smith.....as well as Dame Judy Dench
@@Thierry-l3kyes indeed it was very delightful.
I like their Ladies in Lavender.
Yes it was great.
The cat is out the Bag. She's Horrid.
I was hooked when the dowager said at dinner
“What is a Week End?”
Rest in Peace Dame Maggie Smith 🕊️
Yes...that was a great line.❤
Dame Maggie made the most of ordinary lines to make them extraordinary ❤😢
My absolutely favorite line, also!
I visited the downton abbey film set I brought a tee shirt with those words on it, as a nurse never a truer sentence for me
Markle's shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as the fantastic Dame Maggie Smith.NEVER.
I adore Sophie. 😍 She’s a wonderful representative of the Commonwealth, an excellent addition to the Royal Family, and seems like a genuinely lovely person inside and out. Catherine and Sophie prove that regular people can marry into the Royal Family and become shining stars with duty, honor, and hard work. Too bad Meghan thought she was worthy of the accolades without having to put in the effort.
RIP Dame Maggie Smith, one of the greatest actresses from England 😢❤️🌷
Such an amazing contrast between Dame Maggie's gorgeous, dewy eyes, so full of depth and openness, and Duchess Meggie's slitted, gleaming little points of evil, so full of hate and cruelty.
Thank you for the beautiful reading by Dame Maggie Smith. An era that will never be seen again. Elegant and classy. Sad Dame Maggie has passed. 😢
The editor of People for the 5 friends is the same editor that's now at US Weekly, so I guess we got 4 past employees and the current PR person. My question is if it was so great why did they only stay for a year. Much of it sounded like it was MM that wrote the text
I also loved Maggie Smith in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. She was a treasure that will be missed.
Meghan, the Shakespeare quote "The lady doth protest too much, methinks", applies. So much of the US weekly piece is straight from the keyboard of The Duchess of Duplicity, she thinks we are all stupid. Big mistake Meghan.
Agreed! Wonder how many fake social media accounts she has? Or has she gone through all of them for the comments?
Yes and the fact she’s not suing The Hollywood Reporter backs up their story!
Megan is no longer Duchess by Megabite of Duplicity. Never address them as Duke or Duchess.
So many perfectly good words are misused these days. Not everyone who is called something very complimentary actually deserves it. However, Dame Maggie Smith was in every sense a true STAR. She was an accomplished actress and is rightly considered a legend. She had few equals and I doubt we will ever see anyone better . Rest in Peace, Dame Maggie. 🌹⭐️
Lady Violet Crawley was my favorite character of hers, Professor McGonagall a close second. Rest in eternal peace, Dame Maggie Smith.
I really loved "the prime of miss Jean Brodie". And Gosford park of course! Lady Constance was my favorite charachter in the movie.
Oh yes, her one liners and snippy comebacks made my day!
Don't forget Miss Sheppard from The Lady in the Van. Brilliantly talented classie woman. RIP beautiful lady.
I loved her as Cousin Charlotte in "A Room with a View."
@@mittens4kittens-ym4orbrilliant film 🎉❤
You fell in love with her at exactly the same time as me by the sounds of it!!
I loved her in ‘California Suite’ and her duo with Bette Davis in ‘Death In The Nile’ too!! Whatever you’re doing with your ‘boat’ is extremely ‘sailable’ lol 👍🏼
Dame Maggie…another great taken from us 😔 God bless her 🙏🏻
River, thank you for providing us with a lasting memory of Dame Maggie Smith. May she rest in peace and her family receive strength.
I found Maggie to always have a streak of animation and delight! Bless her soul!!!!
Good evening River. I too loved her in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. You are a vision in Violet. 😊
A lovely tribute to a wonderful woman, River. Thank you.
RIP Dame Maggie thank you for all the wonderful performances.
Such sad news. Lovely tribute, River. How lucky we were to be able to enjoy her immense talent.
The attempted spin to remedy MM's 'reputation' is nauseating. Makes one ponder the goings-on in the realm of high-profile people, actors, etc, and how most of them manage to come away smelling like roses when, in real life they are vile.
I'm not a Harry Potter fan; my introduction to Dame Maggie was via the Sister Act movies and Downton Abbey. Her portrayal of the salty Dowager Countess kept me glued to the series and movies.
Rest in Peace, Dame Maggie 🕊️🤍👑
From the start I think these five friends are her “personalities” and probably Diana who we know speaks to her from beyond. 🤪
Omg, you said it right to funny hahahahahahaha
😂🤣😂🤣😂
So if everything is hunky dory in montishito why has so many left including most recent was the man after just 3 months
God speed Maggie Smith
I don’t see her as any kind of royal or duchess. She does appear to be very narcissistic and not someone one would ever be a friend of. That’s it really. I don’t particularly have any more to say. She’s kind of nothing, to be honest .
RIP Dame Maggie. You were extraordinary and will be deeply and sadly missed 😢
I grieve the loss of Dame Maggie's talent, including her delicious sense of humor!
My favorite Maggie Smith performance came from "A Room with a View." I vaguely remember her from "Clash of the Titans," but being quite young, I had no clue that she was a renowned artist.
Yes I remember her in Clash of the Titans! A silly film but to my 8 year old eyes, a treat and what a cast! Including Dame Sian Phillips who is still with us
I loved her in "A Room with a View" as well. "Poor poor Charlotte and her boiler..."
I'm in floods River, that was so beautiful 😢❤, you done Dame Maggie Smith Proud
She was just SO brilliant! Truly a great loss but what a long and wonderful life. The tribute was really lovely! River, you look amazing in that shade of purple!! ❤️👏🇬🇧🇨🇦✨
“Uppity baggage”!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I can’t get enough of you!
My mum died in May she was 98, yesterday we interned her ashes and she is now back with my dad. Hearing that Maggie Smith died today and listening to her and Kenneth Williams read that poem brought a few tears to my eyes
😢💜
I'm sorry for your loss.

I find it crazy that the response to bullying is to state “we will go after you if you come for our bosses” which is telling everyone that they will bully you. Crazy! Sounds like a typical bully response to me. Js.
Tea with Mussolini was a well crafted movie with Maggie Smith. Filmed in Italy. A pre WW11 tale
and Cher SHINED....
If only Angela Kelly would write a book about her time spent with the Markels. Now that would be something!
Tea with Mussolini was a fantastic movie! Truly an all star cast of great women! Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Cher etc. Rest in peace Dame Maggie Smith!
Tea with Mussolini is one of my favourite films.
Maggie Smith was indeed one of the greats.
If They really said “if you come for our bosses we will come for you”!
Sounds like a threat coming from the Sussex Squad or Sugars.
I can't believe they printed that. That's bullying behaviour right there, and yes, very Sussex Squad like behaviour.
I am not sure. There was another version where they said "If you come for our bosses you are coming for for us", I guess meaning that they would defend their bosses and themselves. I am not sure what the original version said, but both are more than possible.
I found the the whole thing rather creepy. Boss phoning the husband of a staffer on sick leave, every day (?), nope, not good. Staff parties, karaoke, long lunches, second hand baby clothes for expectant staffers (?), nope, that smacks of superiority vibes. They hire the best of the best - experienced, highly intelligent - why in earth would they need nurturing like "seeds"? I would be most indignant if ever a boss of mine had likened to a seed. Apart from that, when do they ever do any work?
RIP Maggie Smith, a true icon of British film. You will be missed.
Or the Sopranos.
Rest peacefully Dame Maggie. Thank you for your brilliant acting. Thank you River.
In Harry Potter they say "Lumos" and raise a wand when someone dies, so here's my wand /*
Wonderful words from you regarding Maggie. You do this very well. I appreciate your presentation.
Lumos 🪄
Lumos 🪄🌸

You fell in love with her at exactly the same time as me by the sounds of it!!
I loved her in ‘California Suite’ also. Another great taken 😔 God bless her 🙏🏻
What a loss for us!
Oh River, what a beautiful and touching reading by Maggie. Thank you for sharing this gem with us.
I loved her in Sister Act, too! A forgotten gem.
Dame Maggie Smith has starred in a lot of gems.
She came across as fake AF in the engagement interview, and everything I have seen of her since has seemed self aggrandising and dripping with inauthenticity.
Purple is so royal! You look great...and your tribute to Maggie Smith was beautiful.
Hear, Hear! Thank you, River.
She was absolutely brilliant and humble. Admired her completely . RIP Dame Maggie Smith. Your legacy will entertain future generations.🙏🩷
REST IN PEACE a BEAUTIFUL LADY ❤❤Maggie Smith ❤❤ sweet dreams ❤❤
What is a weekend?
-Violet Crawley
I want that T-shirt with her picture on it.
Today I mourn our loss of such a wonderful actress
A most fitting, ending tribute to a most wonderful British actress with the wonderful tone of the late Kenneth Williams. Rest easy and with peace 😢
My favourite film was Murder By Death. She was wonderful! xxx
Dearest River awoke this morning in Australia to the sad news of Dame Maggie Smith’s passing on to the theatre in the Sky. Beautiful lady, marvellously talented & “they don’t make ‘em” with such craft anymore. Valè the final curtain call Dame Maggie Smith RIP 🪽🙏🏻🪽💐. I listened to the poem recital & ended in floods of tears such depth of passion rarely heard in this modern world. Thank you. Although my hubby wondered why I suddenly burst into tears as I’m not one to fall on the floor sobbing. You looked a vision in virtuous violet. Take care all the basketeers. 😘💐🦘🐨🇦🇺
I love the account of miss uppetty getting caught up while rehearsing for their wedding dismounting from a car at the bottom of the chapel steps, a police officer body guard went to help her and she rudely admonished him so later at the real event he stood back and watched as she wrestled to get out, a nice bit of karma hehehe 😂😂
It happened on the actual wedding day. The gentleman usher held out his arm to assist her, as her heel had become caught in the hem of her dress upon exiting the car. She slaps his hand away and says something nasty. It is on their wedding dvd and the footage can be found on you-tube.
@@jennyfairbairn2525 For all the world to see!
Thank you, dearest River for your loving and moving tribute to an extraordinary woman and talent. A shining star of the UK, beloved all over the world. One can only hope to pass as she did, after a full and beautiful life, surrounded by love. Thank you also for also featuring the REAL Royals, Princess Anne and Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh. They are gems in the Royal crown and true servants of the people. "This One's" wife, well, she does not deserve to be in the same paragraph, so I close my comment gladly. Cheers to all in the fruit basket, from Canada.
Definitely one of the greats! Thank you for this tribute, River!
I am truly heart-sore over the death of Dame Maggie Smith. 💔🙏🏼 Bless her memory and loved ones.
Thank you for your tribute to Dame Maggie Smith...
Love your purple finery today.
Thank you for eulogy. i had forgotten how very beautiful Dame Maggie was.
I hope Maggie is having a chat with Angela Lansbury...❤
Two greats
I loved Angela Lansbury!
Agreed
Very neat ending, finishing the music spot on at the end of the broadcast tribute. It was worth the effort!
Maggie Smih was a terrific actress. Her passing is a great loss to the world of acting. R.I.P. Maggie Smith 😢
Thank you so much Dame Maggie Smith. ❤️👏
I loved Dame Maggie. She was and will always remain one of the greats. She was such a gorgeous woman all the way through her 70 year career.
Professor McGonagall brought her to the younger generation . Which I'm sure confounded her.
She will be missed.
Unlike megatwat. If she disappeared forever no one would care.
The latest puff peace on how kind she is just pathetic. It made her look condescending af. I don't want her hand me downs . Pay me what I'm worth and stop acting like lady bountiful with your used crap.
She was always one of the greats, and she will remain one of the greats.
Shame, rest in peace Dame Maggie XO🤍🤍🤍
Totally agree she was such a great actress. She will be greatly missed.
So sad to hear the passing of Dame Magggie Smith. 🎉 She was one of the great ones loved her in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and of course all her other works.😭💔
I loved Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey but I always remember her in Gosford Park, Tea with Mussolini, Room with a View and A Private Function... She could do drama but her comedic timing was unmatched!!!! RIP
Just heard the news of Dame Maggie Smith. She did an episode of the old Carol Burnett Show. She was a great actress.
Thank you River for your thoughtful and touching tribute to Dame Maggie Smith. She was very special. So are you. Cheers.
Oh no!! I loved Maggie Smith. This is so sad to hear 😰
River,
You never disappoint.
Your tribute to Maggie Smith was lovely.
Your analysis of Megan is accurate & to the point.
I have been a fan of your channel for years.
Thank you for the effort you take in providing entertaining & informative videos.
Tradesmen shouldnt be treated like sh*t either. They are hard working tradesmen and women. Just my thoughts.
They know how to do there jobs Meghan so mind your own business. You have been a trouble maker from day one. Get a life
Better not scream at the plumber or the electrician. They are expert tradesmen. Do are many middle level workers.
when one really needs a plumber he or she is the most importamt person in the world at that moment
Maggie Smith..loves her in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. Saw her on stage once in London too. Great actress. One of the last greats. RIP.
Nothing will ever convince me that the praise for the Meg was given voluntarily! All this has done is make people appreciate The Royal Family's golden maxim, "Never explain never complain." Love your jewellery as usual dear River. R.I.P. Dame Maggie.
...I really wouldn't want a boss like 'the good Meghan' that she is telling us that she is. Way too disturbingly intrusive. Who wants 'a parent' directing and 'watering seeds' in the workplace (?)
If these comments are true (which I doubt), they reveal a very odd relationship between Meghan and her staff. (Harry, as usual, is absent when actual work production is being discussed.)
Few highly-qualified professionals would feel the need to be "watered" or "parented." What no one says much about is Meghan's actual managerial skills. Few people talked about these skills, or the lack thereof.
Maybe if there were less karaoke and ice cream and more actual work happening, substantial projects would get out the door.
Rachel Markle is nothing was nothing and will be nothing... EPIC FAILURE !!!
@@LynLewis-q4b I refuse mention of "Rachael's acclaimed acting abilities" Maggie had buckets of effortless talent.
And there it is! The like farmers are back up to three comments every video! Pathetic really.
MM wrote the US Weekly article 😀
A beautiful commentary for a multi-talented actress, the good ones are disappearing from our lives too quickly.
And you look resplendent in purple-oh heck, you look fab in everything , gorgeous River! ❤️❤️❤️🇬🇧
I am sad that Dame Maggie Smith has left this world. My condolences to her family and all those who loved and knew her.
We will all miss Dame Maggie Smith - a wonderful actress that only grew more talented as the years went by. My favorite movie she was in: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel & any of the Downtown Abby shows. RIP ma'am 🖤
I have never watched Downton Abbey - perhaps I'll give it a go. However, I have watched most of her films and TV appearances. A great actress, you were always guaranteed quality if she appeared in anything.
I never knew that Maggie Smith had been an episode of Carol Burnett!
I also adored Dame Maggie Smith in her role in the Poirot film Evil Under the Sun with Peter Ustinov! She was such a feisty redhead!
With respect to the Duchess of Delusion, they don’t call her Double Duch for nothing. 😂
