She's such a unique singer I didn't really realise she was so good. As to swallowing her words a bit. Good. It's part of her uniqueness.
She invented her own style in the 1990's. You can her it's Alanis from a mile away, despite her older age, she still got IT!
That is such a heart-warming performance.
I saw Alanis in concert for the Jagged Little Pill anniversary tour, she was just amazing, I was on cloud nine that night. What a great mom 😀
I remember watching this when it was posted. The fact that she can sing like that, in tune and in her typical Alanis way, and while holding her little girl is just amazing. Absolutely effortless. Her album is brilliant, Ablaze is second best to her song ‘reasons I drink’ which talks about her past. Of course, nothing beats her first album. Both are always on repeat for me while driving.

I cried listening just now. I can't remember if I cried when I first saw this in early covid but I was incredibly moved by it, the lyrics, her child, her voice, the feelings in the song ~ I must have cried then, too
Listening to your feedback and watching it again now, I wonder if she kept moving her head to her right to allow her to belt it out without blasting her daughter (who kept taking her headset off)

I think what you mean is that she feels emotional about having her daughter with her so there’s the differentiation

That "bouncing" won't hurt those vocal chords a bit! Her chords are made of steel and the lungs are perfect! She let's her voice go where it wants to go comfortably. The head movements are due to not overwhelming the mike and transmitting the same volume, because in this setting there is no compressor behind the mike. As a barritone when I go for the high notes I get really loud for the bass notes I have to get close to the mike. You have to learn to work the mike according to your voice to increase your range. Opera is a different horse all together, no mikes and all projection at all times. Limits the range though!

The reason that she get her head back on high notes is because of the mic and volume. Not to get the high notes!
hmm that's a good point. I would try to do it with less tension, though, If I could. As I said, though, it didn't really bother me the way she did it. And it's really a lot to expect from her to sing tension-free in the posture she was in with her girls in her arms!
