    What will happen to Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Vol when Dirac calibration filters are uploaded? How many memory slots (speaker config) will be available for Dirac and Audyssey? If Dynamic EQ/vol is not applicable to Dirac, then we need at least 4 memory slots for different listening volumes... Is the Audyssey/Dirac processing carried out at 96kHz or is it still at 48kHz?

    • @shaolin95
      @shaolin95 Рік тому

      DEQ is not available for Dirac. Basically you have speaker preset 1 for Audyssey and 2 for Dirac (which has 3 slots for saving)

    The 4800 seems a bit more upscale due to being manufactured in the Japan factory, the price certainly reflects the improved quality. It would have been nice if it would have an upscale DAC chip compared to its siblings. I know that there is currently a DAC chip shortage due to the fire and pandemic etc, but the TI chip doesn't measure well in the text bench drag races that some reviewers like to do. This is going to hurt sales of this unit.

      I have had the X6700H for a year and 3 months that was made in Japan and I thought the same thing until I started having problems with 2 (so far) HDMI ports that stopped functioning. I will stick to the cheaper stuff in the future as all 3 of my bargain avr's from 2007-2009 all still function perfectly from Denon and Yamaha.

    Denon could make a big favor to the community by implementing 3800/4800 class unit WITHOUT amplification, just like prepro. Right now to get more channels and/or features you need to buy more and more expensive unit, up to $7,000 and higher. I aint buying it. All I need is 4800 without amplification + more processed channels, and balanced preouts. All in sub $1,000 territory. This unit doesnt need bulky transformer, power supply and other heavy shit.

    • @JonMoralesLA
      @JonMoralesLA Рік тому +3

      Gene of Audioholics has apparently discussed this with manufacturers and the reason this doesn't ever happen is that the consumer market for pre-pros is very small compared to receivers. Just not many people out there buying Pre-pros. Manufacturing cost is in large part effected by the economies of scale. If they order 1000 pre-pros to be manufactured vs 50,000 amplifiers...they just don't get the price down to where you think it would and it actually ends up being even more expensive to the consumer that just buying a receiver. So you would never get the unicorn price of $1,000 for a pre-pro. It would likely cost $2,000 or more because the volume just isn't there.
      Sucks cause I'm with you. I would love to have an affordable pre-pro but the world of people that even know what a pre-pro is is very small. The market is in fact moving towards Sound bars if anything. So this dream is just not likely to happen.
      The budget pre-pros out there kinda suck with features. They just are so bare bones. I really want a Pre-Pro with Auro 3D for example...just hard to find at any reasonable price. So to me...the 3800h is very much like an affordable pre-pro within my price range. I'm already running 5 of my 9 channels to external amp and want to have all channels amped eventually.

    Fine products, but I miss a few things, which, as far as I know, not even the AVC A1H has to offer:
    - multichannel analog inputs
    - Heos multichannel ability. Even a cheap Fire TV stick can output Tidal Atmos.
    - also Flac multichannel would have been nice. I would at least expect that for the AVC A1H.
    - „sharpness“ option in video settings (which my Denon 4520 has)
    - no display on remote control (which my 4520 still has)
    Btw. one shouldn´t be too proud of an HD onscreen menu, now that we have 4K devices since years.
    2 more question:
    - as far as I know, Audyssee always works with 48khz internally, even if the source is 96khz or higher. What about Dirac?
    - do Marantz Cinema AVRs have AL 32 processing?

    I just received the X4800H and have a couple of issues with it. First, the subwoofer setup in Audyssey does not work. The on screen setup tells you to turn up the subwoofer to 75db but it stays at 30db on screen no matter how high the volume is in the subwoofer. Secondly. I get frequent audio drops that are only a split second while watching TV on the ARC. I will return it if Denon doesn’t have a fix. BTW, it is running the latest firmware.

      Honestly the 4700h right now is a bad buy given that the 3800h is now out. I had purchased and returned the 4700 and picked up the 3800 instead. Thankfully I was within my BestBuy return window to do so.
      3800 is within the newer line that is getting all of these updates and has the newer GUI. Also has all proper modern HDMI 2.1 ports where 4700 only has one. Has the 4 Subwoofer outputs and support for directional subs (put 4 subs in 4 corners of the room and the Denon will output the localized bass from a given channel to the closest sub in that corner). 3800 will get Dirac Live upgrade ability in March 2023. Only thing 4700 has going for it is slightly more power output but both receivers are begging for external amplification anyway so that slight bump is a wash.
      In summary I say again…don’t buy the 4700 in 2023…instead grab the 3800h.

    I'm very hesitant between the 4800 and the 6700. Dirac, 4 subs, new GUI and 2.1 are not really important to me.
    The 6700 has more power and more channels.
    Does the 6700 have the same quality parts as the 4800?
    Does the 6700 have better audio quality than the 4800 since it is a higher model?
    Am I wise, with an eye to the future, to buy the 2 years older 6700 or is the 4800 a better receiver?

    • @level80888

      think twice: any standalone power amplifier will destroy these Denons. And you reeeealy underestimate Dirac, 4 subs and new DSP as a whole. 3800 with external amplifier will give you better volume and quality of sound. 6700 has 11.2 vs 9.4 on 3800/4800, but this is still not enough for some formats (say 13.4 dts or so).

I do think it’s great that at least people who have that overhead Dolby speaker layout can still turn on Auro 3D if they want with the upcoming update. Before Auro 3D would simply not show up as an option if you chose certain height layouts.
      But for sure people using a Dolby Atmos layout with top heights are not going to have an ideal Auro 3D experience with speakers set up like that I would think…as I have not tested Auro in a Dolby speaker layout.
